Dont go to Dr. Gower 1/3/2011

Dr. Verlia Gower of Pediatric Ear, Nose & Throat of Atlanta, P.C. is the worst doctor of any kind that I have ever encountered. She was cold, rude and very condescending to me and my child. The fact that she is a pediatrician and deals with kids is appalling! 1st of all, she never spoke to or addressed my 2 yr old child (this set a bad tone for the entire visit). She never made him feel comfortable when she was examined him (we all know that little kids don’t like to be poked & examined). She never said anything calming or soothing as I had to hold my child down from screaming while she was examining him. Her nurse even came into the room in an attempt to hold him down but she never stopped to comfort him at all. Secondly, my child has seen several doctors, been to the emergency room & has been evaluated by 3 speech therapists for multiple ear infections & speech delay due to the infections. They are all saying the same thing about my child (due to multiple ear infections, the fluid behind his ears has caused him to be delayed in his speech). All of his other development levels are fine but his speech is severely delayed (his speech is said to be that of a 9-12 months old) and this is because he CAN NOT hear words clearly. Despite the same diagnosis from multiple sources, Dr Gower literally said to me, “they are all wrong and I am the only person who has the courage to tell you the truth.” She said that my child doesn't have a hearing problem regarding his multiple ear infections and she can tell that by looking in his ears. She simply said he is a slow speaker. I am not insinuating that my child is deaf but the way it was explained to me is that when children have ear infections or even fluid in the middle ear that isn’t affected, it is as if they are under water and trying to hear what people are saying outside of the water. I was also told that when my son took the audiology test that he didn’t have an ear infection and therefore could not duplicate his hearing loss problem. That did not mean that ear more
