Not Acceptable for the Price 5/17/2009

Being somewhat of a foodie, I'd been dying to try Mary Maestri's since I was a little kid. I live in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, and have always driven through Tontitown on the way to my grandmother's in Huntsville and have always heard of how great the place was. First of all I had little overall problem with the food. The pasta though definitely fresh with the tortellini soup was slightly undercooked. The lasagna ($14.99, one of the cheapest things on the menu) was not of a overly large portion size that you might expect for the price (this is the south not times square). Cheesecake was very overpriced at $5.95 per slice for how small the portions were. The wheat rolls, and dinner rolls were superb, and overall probably the one thing that I could say stood out over a vast number of other restaurants. Even though our waitress may have lacked a full set of teeth, she did a very adequate job of keeping drinks refilled (though it was very easy because they were surprisingly slow for a Friday evening). The overall quality of the cuisine would be a 4 out of 5 but with the price (we're talking $19 for most all entrees) it was simply overpriced for the atmosphere. As much as I'd rather eat at family owned, local type joints, Carraba's is in my opinion a much better value, and equally as good if not better when it comes to the palate. more
