Lack of follow up disturbing 8/2/2010

My husband had to have a tooth filled a couple months ago because it had cracked. Dr. Ruff told him the filling might work, so they'd try that first. If it didn't, my husband would be looking at a root canal or extraction. My husband had to go back in a couple of times in the weeks following because his bite wasn't quite right and they had to file down the filling to fix that. It made us question the work, but thought it might just be one of those things. Fast forward to this weekend, when my husband developed a terrible toothache in the same tooth. He called Saturday morning and left a message on the office voicemail. There was no emergency number or instructions for patients who are in such situations. Still, he left a message hoping someone might happen to hear it and at least be able to phone in some pain meds until he could get in to see someone after Monday. We ended up going to an urgent care dental clinic in Columbus because his pain was unbearable. He has an abscess and is on antibiotics and a painkiller until he sees an oral surgeon this week. ...In the meantime, *no one* from this practice has even bothered calling us back regarding the message he left Saturday morning. He made it clear that he is in significant pain. That's unconscionable. To have any physician or dentist's office ignore an established patient when he's such misery is just incomprehensible to us. We're very disappointed, and we're looking elsewhere for a dentist. more
