Consistently wonderful 10/2/2010

Since the day it opened, I believe over 20 years ago, I have been to Yang Ming over 100 times. My friends tease me because we keep on going back. I have tried most of the good/great restaurants in the area, in the country and throughout Europe. I never had a bad meal at Yang Ming. The food is exceptional, and the quality is always consistent. If every time I went there I didn't get the "best" server, I chalk it up to everyone capable of a bad night. I never had to wait for my food, and the ambience is lovely. more

$50 mistake 3/29/2010

I went to Yangming for a celebratory dinner with my sister. We order the Peking Duck, some cocktail etc.. we decided it what the heck, it was a big celebration, so we ordered a bottle of the Menu vintage Dom Perignon, we were told the vintage on the menu was not available but the next vintage was, We were charge the price for the Older vintage, any sommelier will tell you that is not what should have happened, they should have charged much less since the two Vintages were both available. Pros: Excellent Cuisine Cons: Menu Bait and Switch more

Resting on Its Reputation 2/21/2010

Talk about resting on your reputation. I was there recently with a party of eight. We were placed in a back table and promptly ignored. I had to go chasing after the waiter to get him to do his job. Some dishes are OK, others are overspiced or bland. Since Main Liners are basically sheep, they would still flock in to a place like this if they started serving hot dogs. more

My favorite Chinese restaurant. 1/10/2010

I have eaten at Yangming several times over the past few years, and it continues to be the best Chinese Restaurant I have experienced. The dining area is very pleasant and elegant. I had the Golden Crabmeat purse for an appetizer. It was interesting to look at, and wonderful to eat. The Firecracker veal was just spicy enough and very good. I have tried and love just about all of the desserts. I especially like the creme brulee. The service has always been A1, pleasant and attentive. Pros: Interesting and well prepared Chinese dishes. Cons: Sometimes the parking lot is crowded. more

terrible expeience 11/8/2009

First of all I am an associate pastor, and my wife is an business owner. We eat out pretty regularly from Morimoto downtown to tao in Manhattan, and I can confidently say this was one of if not the most unauthentic chinese resturaunts we ever experienced, and my wife is asian. The food is take out level at exorbitent prices and from other review i can say good service will be a toss up. The first red flag was the linguine with i think marinara sauce on the menu, and some assorted mexican dishes, i should have trusted my instincts and got up and left. Our waiter practically threw our plates at us, took our orders with an attitude, and basically showed us that serving us was very painful to him. My wife was extremely offended and upset, our children seemed uncomfortable, We have two at Shipely, and two at Episcopal and i would say they are pretty well adjusted children, and i hated seeing them put in that situation, feeling unwanted there. I being a minister usually try to down play people with bad attitudes, at which my wife wanted to kick me in my head for not supporting her, but she is right no establishment should have anybody working for them that exhibits this kind of behavior. My children also experienced cramps, and i felt a little queezy after the meal, maybe the food maybe not, but it was as unauthentic as is Bryn mawr is far from China. I recognize Bryn mawr as an upscale community with great shops and food, but this place is an black eye to the community. Suffer the ride and congestion and find a place in china town if you want to get the best for your money. Pros: bryn mawr Cons: food, service more

Very nice Main Line restaurant 11/19/2008

I've been here for birthday dinners with my friends, and the service is always impeccable. The food presentation is really beautiful, and I've more than enjoyed everything I've eaten here, especially the seafood dishes. It's in a pretty convenient location, just off Rt. 30. The parking lot is fairly large, though when it's crowded you might have trouble finding a spot. more

good food 11/14/2008

I had went there for the first time at my Christmas party. i really enjoyed the food. I will be going back. they are a nice restaurant. I would subject this place to other people that like Chinese food. more

The quality of the food has dropped substantially. 11/14/2008

The quality has dropped decidedly since our previous visit. My daughter and I had an entrie of shimp and scallops with Chinese vegetables and were very disappointed. The dish was tasteless and what was offered as scallops were large whitish discs that were soft, mushy and tateless. I grew up on seafood and know that the muscle of a scallop should be solid and firm. These pretend scalops had apparently been diced out of some other creature. I know that business are hurting, but I would rather have had one or two real scallops. Sorry we won't be back more

Consistenly good 4/7/2008

I have eaten several times at Yangming and have never been disappointed. Asian food with French influence, the minimal servings provide big flavor. We generally try to reserve a small room with a round table for about 8. It is a lovely, if not spacious, space, with a large round window on one side. The serves have always been accommodating of our children, their preferences and food allergies. We have gone for lunch where entrees are around $10 a piece. Delicious desserts as well. more

Yangming - Truly the Main Line Style 2/25/2008

Not only does the food here differ, the company too. Everywhere you look, you can see families gathering together, friends going out for a drink, or people meeting to discuss business. For us, it was family outing. There are chairs in the front for people to wait. We happened to sit in the back, where it was more spacious. The food had a high class quality to it that lived up to its name. It tasted a bit fusion. I would suggest the General Tso Chicken for children and the Crabmeat Fried Rice. You definitely can not forget to try the tiramisu for dessert! more

Good food 12/17/2007

The Mongolian lamb here is quite delicious. I have no idea if it's authentic, but it's tasty, that's for sure. There are two sides to this restaurant in the evenings, one for parties consisting only of adults and the other for people with children. The adult side is much nicer and service is better and more attentive. If you go with someone under 21, you will be seated in a back pocket somewhere and a bit less attention will be paid to you. The difference is good and better, not good and bad, though, so either side is fine really. The food is good, the prices are reasonable. Pros: Good food Cons: Seems to be either crowded or empty more

Poor service, average food 11/20/2007

We booked a table for 5 on a weekend night, and when we arrived, there was no table available. They attempted to seat us in a booth that typically seated 2!!! When we declined the seat, we were asked to wait for about 20 mins further, without apologies. more

quality price and service are amazing 3/26/2007

My wife and I had our wedding reception at Yang Ming. Being we only had about 100 guests so people were not scrunched into a tight fitting area. I still have people that went to my wedding tell me it was the best food they've ever had for a wedding reception. If you haven't tried it...GO. You'll have a good meal and good service. For desert try the Tiramisu!!! Pros: food, service, price, ambience more

good american chinese food, a bar, and very high prices 10/27/2006

Ok - Yang Ming - it's in my back yard. Here is the place for a certain group of Main Liners to go to a Chinese Restauarant without having to deal with the any other ethnic elements. What Yang Ming has done is to take ordinary Chinese food and set it in the environment of the Gladwyn Guard House - complete with the ever so essential bar. Pros: liquor, if you want it. Cons: overpriced, self-congratulatory more

User review by gantrioch 4/11/2006

I ate at Yangming for the first time today, since I had a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket. I was pleasantly surprised. While the food was very Americanized, I think that the overall tastes were combined very well. The wonton soup was good but nothing spectacular while the spring rolls were very, very Chinese. I'm more used to Vietnamese spring rolls which makes sense since I'm Viet :-). My entree was the filet mignon with haricot verts, maitake mushrooms, something that looked and tasted like three potato pierogies, and a red wine reduction. The green beans were somewhat heavily salted but I realize that this was both for taste, obviously, and for texture. I believe that they use sea salt. I was astonished at the amount of maitake mushrooms on my plate, since even with large/bulk purchases they can run sixty dollars a pound. I recommend Yangming. more

Have to disagree with the Editors 4/9/2006

Sure it is Main Line and sure there are timid diners there, but the range of offerings is expansive. I have eaten there over fifty times and have never had a bad meal. Go! You will enjoy. Great for take out when you want to eat in. I love their shrimp offerings in particular. Always a pleasure and you are always welcomed warly and personally. Pros: Food, Value, Service more

Impressive decor, lovely food....... 2/24/2005

I was at Yangming recently after a 10 year absence. I honeslty can't explain why I waited so long in returning! The place is lovely -- and fills up quickly -- and the overall service is wonderful. True, it is pricey for Chinese...but when you can find something that is 5-star dining, it is worth the price! I'm vegetarian, and they created something that was not on the menu to accomodate me. I plan on making more returns! Pros: Lovely location, Decor, Prompt & attentive Cons: Lack of parking more
