I went to camp on beautiful Schroon Lake in the Adirondack mountains of New York State. Word of Life was a Christian based fellowship and had a ranch type theme. Campers progressed up the ranks from deputies (aged 6 & 7), sheriffs (aged 8-10) and rangers (pre-teens) and I enjoyed some wonderful summers there. Learned to roast marshmallows, ride a horse, swim in a lake, camp in the outdoors and make friends from all across the world. Every summer I recall singing endless choruses of "I'm going to heaven and I can't wait" and drinking bug juice (Kool-Aid).
Counselors were students attending Bible colleges throughout the US and they were terrific. Caring, patient and always willing to give their support.
The camp is still in operation and I've visited the grounds when taking my children up to camp near Lake George, NY over the past 14 summers. Boy, does this bring back memories?
