Based on reviews I traveled a good distance across and uptown to get an eye exam from Dr. Wolynski, and I was not disappointed. He is absolutely wonderful. In all my experience (with corrective lenses since elementary school), I have not met a doctor who was more concerned with my eye health. He was thorough, explained everything and I didn't feel rushed. I will definitely be making the trip again for my regular checkups. I recommend him highly, and have referred friends and family. Glasses on First was recommended to me by a friend who had used them, and since I was sick of the attitude problems and lack of frame selections at the chain stores, where every frame on display looked just like the next one, I gave them a try. They are very patient with customers, and have a sense of the importance of a purchase of glasses, which are very expensive and, unless one is quite free-spending, something one has to live with every single day for the next few years. Their prices are not the cheapest in town, but very fair, and their workmanship and excellent service more than make up for it. I happen to have selected a frame style that has proven to be ""high-maintenance"" and has required several return visits for adjustments. The staff at Glasses on First have been very patient, and my problems have been quickly and cheerfully resolved. I have really bad eyesight (-7 for all you contact lens wearers) so I've been regularly going to the eye doctor for most of my life. Started seeing Dr. Wolynski 2 years ago and he is wonderful. My most recent trip ended up saving my vision! After noticing a blind spot in my vision (which I could not even notice) Dr. Wolynski referred me to a retina specialist and it turned out I had a partially detached retina. I personally hadn't noticed any of the indicators and the retina specialist said that 9 out of 10 eye doctors would not have noticed it either. Long story short they were able to repair the detached retina before it became fully detached and I can still see out of both of my eyes. I also tend to pass out when getting my eyes dilated and Dr. Wolynski was patient with me and explained that it is actually a pretty common occurrence. \r Finally....to those that say the staff members in reception are just standard, I found them extremely helpful in getting insurance issues worked out and they were patient with my indecisiveness while I was looking for glasses. The opticians there-both Joe and Steve have always been very kind and patient to adjust my glasses (I have three kids and a dog). The selection of frames are great ! The doctor is very good as well and had examed me a few times for both contacts and glasses. Just stay away from the extremely rude girl with the short black hair at the front desk, who I had the ""pleasure"" of encountering last monday. A fine establishment like this one should pick better representatives! All in all, the doctor and the opticians are definally worth coming back. more

I came here on my ophthamologist's recommendation after going to Cohen's for many, many years. Dr. Wolynski gave me a careful exam, all the while explaining what he was doing, and was diplomatic about my extreme nearsightedness. While the receptionists were run-of-the-mill (distracted, chilly), Dr. Wolynski and his father were wonderful. more

I'm relatively new to New York City and needed to find an optician. I'm not easy to fit new glasses for because of a bad astigmatism and previous retinal surgery. I was very satisfied with thoroughness of my eye examination. The have the right equipment and and did not rush me through the examination. They had a great selection of frames and I was able to find 2 frames that I liked. The time to get the glasses was around a week which is about average. If you are over on the Eastside I recommend you give these folks a try. Pros: Good selection and good service. Dr. Wolynski is a handsome, down to earth optometrist. With his easy going manner and high-tech equipment, this was the most thorough (and comfortable) eye exam I have ever received. He is supported by a wonderful staff who helped me pick out my new glasses. I will definitley be returning. more

I walk in with a new Vision Care card, and they can't locate my membership and they say they can't call the number on the card either, so they pretty tell me they cannot help me, while at the same time ""educating"" me on health/vision care as if I were a five year old. \r \r I left and called my healthcare provider, who got in touch with them and they then were able to pull up my account. I called this estabishment to ask what happened, and their response was that the fellow ""couldn't pull up your membership"". When I asked why they were able to 20 minutes later, there was no explanation. No apology. Nothing. \r \r I've been there before, and was treated fine, and I know all about bad days, but the complete absence of effort on their part to assist me was quite extraordinary. And when treated so poorly, the most appropriate recourse is to take my business elsewhere. more

Frankly, the worst customer service I've ever come across in a professional setting.\r \r They couldn't locate my membership (even though I gave them my vision card), and they didn't seem to really care. They told me they couldn't help me, refused to contact my provider and tried to explain the vision/health care industry as if I was a 7 year old.\r \r After calling my healthcare provider when I got home, who called this place, my account was found. There was no explanation and no apology from Glasses on First. They then had the chutzpah to ask if I wanted to reschedule.\r \r Frankly, the most effective recourse consumers have (and sorry about the cliche) is with our feet. Although this location is very convenient, their complete lack of courtesy and effort in assisting me means that I will never return to this establishment. more

Nice, friendly service with convenient hours. I was able to get a Sunday appointment. One note, when you are buying frames here or anywhere, make sure you are getting a new pair and not the display pair. I realized only after my first pair of glasses broke that I had been given the display pair. To the store's credit, they very promptly ordered a new set of frames and swapped my lenses in minutes. Would certainly return for my next checkup and glasses purchase. more
