BIASED review 5/6/2012

This above review by ""dv video"" or some such name with the on star rating is obviously by someone who is not too bright or extremely biased. Or BOTH! ALL of the vets at WAH are extremely dedicated to their clients and their owners. It is amazing that the OP found EVERYTHING was $750. How believable is that? So he posted that he found his dog dead the VERY morning that he/she found this rating site? ""He had more wrong than I new""?!? BRILLIANT! Look, slanthead, there are options, I guarantee that WAH will NOT turn you down for lack of funds. I worked there almost 40 years ago and they NEVER turned down service for money, NEVER! more

Amazing Staff and Vets 4/6/2012

My fiance and I took our fur baby in for the first time and we were both amazed at the general awe of this place. The only negative experience was the snobbish woman at the reception desk when we first came in, she was kind of rude and clearly didn't like the staff members that were coming to get patients. She was the only negative though. The girl that took us to the room, Tiffany I think, was really nice, seemed truly interested in our boy, and put me totally at ease with the hospital after the first girl gave me doubts, and it was clear that she loves her job. She was really gentle with him while still being firm while the doctor was examining him, even when he was trying to jump off the table. We saw Dr.Gaugh and she was very respectful and great with our baby. Dr Gaugh also didn't have a problem admitting that she wasn't sure and bringing in one of the more seasoned vets. We were very pleased with everyone we came in contact with, except the first lady, and we will definitely be returning. Thank you Westbury for taking such great care of us and our baby. more

The Best Veterinary Hospital in Town 3/26/2012

If you're looking for a veterinary hospital that is a notch above the rest, then look no further than the Westbury Animal Hospital. They were recommended to me by a friend whose dog's life was saved by them and I've been a loyal customer ever since. This is an AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) hospital which means the vets have to continue their education yearly and they keep up with new trends so they're not stuck in the dark ages like so many vets who still think yearly vaccinations are the way to go. AAHA vets follow the AAHA vaccination guidelines (i.e. core vaccines given once every three years). So not only are the vets knowledgeable and experienced, but even the supporting staff is wonderful. The experience is top notch from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. It does not smell like a vet clinic and is very clean. They even have refrigerated bottled water and cookies out for the humans. They take a photo of your dog and put it on his receipt which is a nice touch. And unlike many other vet clinics/hospitals they want to know what kind of food your dog is eating. We usually see Dr. Flores and she's very nice and makes our dog feel at ease. I highly recommend Westbury Animal Hospital. They are a bit more expensive but they're worth it. more

Best Vet 4/6/2011

A vet friend referred me to Dr. Chalkley after having several positive experiences herself. Everything about the clinic was efficient and professional. Highly recommend more

find a different vet 8/15/2007

My first impression of this office was good. However when I brought my hound in for treatment of a hot spot and a bad toe, Dr. Chalkley helped him with his hot spot and cut back his toe nail and said the nail probably did not hurt him but that it probably has a tumor and should be removed. For this visit he prescribed anti-inflammatory medicine for his hips and charged $750.00. Later I asked how much to remove the toe, he said it would be $750.00. More recently we brought our cat in for an abcess on her neck, she was pretty sick, guess what, another $750.00\r This morning I found my dog dead in our living room, he must have had more wrong than I new, he got sick in the night, I feel terrible because I did'nt take him in because were low on cash and credit.\r I can see my doctor for hundreds less than it costs to take your pets to this money factory.\r Find another vets office that is more compassionate and not so mercenary. Very thorough examination and top notch care 8/2/2007

I have a cat that has had a history of health problems and has been given many different diagnosis and has been on many different medications. I just moved to Houston and did not have a local Vet but after reading an article in the Chronicle about Dr. Cooper at Westbury Animal Clinic having saved a homeless dogs life, I decided to take my cat to him. I was very pleasantly surprised at the very thorough examination and care he gave her. I had never seen a Vet take so much time with her and ask me so many questions. Because of his thorough exam I FINALLY got a CORRECT diagnosis, my cat is now finally doing fine! Pros: everyone seems knowledgeable & doctor was very kind Cons: location is far from me more

Not sure 5/7/2007

When I first called because my cat is ill, the lady who answered the phone at night was superb! She was friendly and caring and answered my concerns. I loved the customer service! I came in at the break of dawn to drop off my cat and the lady at that time, also, was amazingly courteous and helpful!\r \r Then I got the phone call from my doctor. He explained to me what was going on with my cat, which was great. But due to the costs I didn't think I could afford at the time, I tried to discuss alternatives with him that maybe I can do at home. I felt like he was pretty pushy about me doing it the way he wanted it done. Almost like I didn't have a choice in the matter. I was very uncomfortable. I called back a few minutes later to ask a question and the receptionist, (a different lady, by now), was not knowledgeable about what was going on in the clinic, it seemed. And to top it off, when I came to pick up my cat, I had barely walked in the door and I could already feel her unfriendliness!\r \r She didn't even say hi or can I help you! She just stared, then said ""yes?"". No smile, no good customer service... nothing. The doctor met me and again, I found him pushy about his way. Also, he was obviously in a rush, and it intimidated me from asking him any questions. He didn't even glance down at my poor cat, except to show me how to administer his medication and fluid! When he was done explaining the procedure, he didn't even look me in the eye or shake my hand or anything! No formal good-bye that you would expect with that setting. Anyway, just wanted to share my experience. Pros: parking Cons: please see what I wrote on my experience more

The best vet care you can ever get. Tech on site all the time. Vet on call all the time. 46 yrs of care for my 8 dogs 11/30/2006

I got my first dog when I was 6 and we used Westbury Animal Hospital. Now it is 46 years later and we have been through 8 dogs, many emergencies, great times as we get new dogs (usually from the SPCA), and sad times as older ones had to be put down, even adopting one that had been abandoned at the clinic. The vets have always become like family to us. The vets are leaders in vet medicine and always have the pet's best interest as their goal at all times. Dr. J has been our ""family vet"" since the first owner retired, and he and Dr. E and the rest of the staff care for our dogs as much as we do, and we are hard to beat! We have recommended ""our"" vet clinic to many friends over the years, and will continue to do so. If you want your pet cared for by people who will love it as much as you do, this is the place to come. Pros: They love our dogs. Easy parking. Courteous and helpful staff and aids. more
