When one first hears of a 'Christian' Academy, they may think of age appropriate lessons and activities all centered around the word of God. One does not generally envision two hour time outs for pre schoolers, commands of 'against the wall!', 'we should be silent!', eating all meals in complete silence, requests for seconds denied to even the two year olds saying 'but, I'm still hungry', chapel services that last upwards of two hours wherein if children speak or make noise, they are publicly ridiculed. These same chapel services teach lessons such as 'Jesus died to make us free of disease. Disease is sin. To cure disease, all you do is pray. Maybe those who are sick don't know this. We should pray they are cleaned.' (all of which is not biblically accurate in any way) A place where parent's personal business is discussed in the foyer for all to hear. A place where your child will write sentences, lose recess, stand against walls all for the mere act of talking. (on a bus, while eating, in the classroom...all these places should be 'silent!') A place where employees are not granted sick days (hope your kid does not get ill, too!), recovery days after surgery or even a day off to attend a funeral will end in sudden termination. (hope your kids were not attached to that teacher- they aren't allowed to tell kids they are leaving-ever.) The directors manipulate, command conversations and leave no room for any way but their own. I have seen autistic children drug through halls, emotionally challenged children so beat down by their commands they shut off completely or act out very violently.
This is all very harsh. But it is all true. If you are thinking of sending your child or seeking employment here- ignore the 'best of Denton' award sign and walk away. Go past all the reviews that shine about them (you'll find they seem to all say the same thing, as if written by the same people) and find a daycare that truly cares for children.
