not so good. MSG filled food with not so good tasting dishes. 2/28/2008

I can sure taste the MSG that was filling my meal. It was late at night, and there was nothing else opened so I decided to come by here. The food does out come out pretty fast(probably premade). Well, obviously the food isn't traditional but the Mongolian beef is passable. The plain fried rice is not good so opt for steamed rice instead. THe Schezuan beef was not so Schezuan like. lol but its somewhat passable as a average filling meal. a lot of the dishes are filling but average Chinese food that you'd find in anywhere. Some of the dishes were way under average in my opinion. IF you want to be full, have fast service, and are hungry late at night, this may be the place for you. BUt if those conditions do not apply, I don't recommend coming here. Pros: nice looking inside, fast service, open late, filling Cons: MSG, not so good food more

Don' Eat here!! 10/25/2007

As usual, Wanfu was one of my favorite places to eat at night. I had being going there for a while, despite the rumors that people said about that certain place. Some friends had talked about a rodent problem there, but I just ignored it, since the food was REAL good. Well, it happened that to my amazement, that we went wanfu one of those nights. We got there, starving at night and I ordered my usual. I was with one of my friends, and he ordered a tea. The HOST, not the WAITER brought the tea, and my friend ordered some lemons on the side. He came back, and brought them in his filthy, sordid HAND!!! I COULD NOT believe my eyes. He looked like he was on something, i dont know, but that was really nasty. We decided to stay, hoping he would not bring our food out. The waiter brought it out, so we felt ok. After eating half of my combination fried rice, i found a PIECE OF A RUBBERBAND in there. It was BLUE, AND IT LOOK PRETTY DIRTY. That had been enough for that night, and we left the place. The lady still charged us half. The point is, its not really the lady's fault, I know she is trying to run a nice business, but the people that work there are dirty. They need to get their stuff together and be professional about it. From that day, I decided not to eat there anymore, despite the delicious food they have their. I just would not recommend the place. There is another nice place called HAI KY. That is a very sanitary place and it is real good too. Very cheap too. more

Suspicious! 7/30/2007

Yeah, I don't know if I can trust them again either. Espeically since I didn't know they were closed and called in to order food. The lady on the phone said they were closed to make upgrades and make the place nicer and didn't share any rodent information with me. I found out later that the place had been closed due to health issues. I really did like the place but now I just don't know anymore if I can trust them to clean up their own mess on their own. more

I don't know anymore 7/25/2007

Considering this place was shut down for a month to get rid of a rodent problem I do not know whether to trust it again or not. Before they closed down I always thought they were very good and very affordable. Now though I do not know if I can ever trust them again since they had a rodent problem. more

Please READ!!! 6/6/2007

Do not go eat at this resteraunt. A group of friends and I went there last night (6/5/07) and before we had even given our food order, we saw a rodent fall through the ceiling tile. Yes, that's right, it fell right through the ceiling! Thank god no one was seated at the table where the rodent fell. Anyways, we ran out of there quickly. Already made a report to the health inspector. more

wanfu more like wrong-ful 5/30/2007

This is not the best Asian food in Austin. I looked around at the restaurant and knew better not to order a whole meal of my own. The dirty carpet and tables told me the story of possible illness, and I cannot afford to get sick off of cheap restaurants who cut corners in the kitchen food and sanitation wise. I orderd a soda only and watched my friends eat. The smell of the food got to my hungry stomach, and I stole a piece of chicken off someone's plate. I hate to admit it but it actually tasted good. I was just not about to think about the microscopic creatures that could attack my intestines if I ate the food in large quantities. Even though whatever my friend had ordered tasted decent, I have never been brave enough to venture back there. Maybe it was an omen that one of the lights on the sign was out..and is still out whenever I drive past it on Oltorf. Cons: dirty and waitstaff wasnt as nice as possible more

cheap, but dirty and unhealthy 3/28/2007

After reading the reviews that said that Wanfu had great, cheap chinese food, I had somewhat high expectations...I ordered take-out and when I went to go pick it up, I saw something skitter across the floor! There was another customer waiting for his order, and we both saw a rodent run under the table! I kind of freaked, and when I told the hostess, she said something that they had set up some traps and seemed completely nonplussed by the fact that there were rodents running around the restaurant. I had read a review saying that there were things crawling on the walls, but I had just ignored it...probably should have listened...if you like MSG laden, rodent food - then this is the place for you Pros: cheap Cons: msg heavy, rodents, bad customer service more

Americanized Chinese Food 11/21/2006

I have been here a few times and I have been here and I think this restaurant has improved a bit over the last few years. The restaurant is nice and decorated like you think any Chinese restaurant should look like. The menu mainly consists of Americanized-Chinese food, and it pretty good here compared to some other places I have been to. I do recommend trying something different like the clay pots for something to keep you warm in the cold winter nights. Nights? Yup another cool think about this place is that it is open till 2AM everyday. So if you are in the mood for Kung Pao chicken or Sesame Chicken, then come by and check this place out. Pros: Good food for its kind... and it's open till 2am! Cons: Nothing on the menu to separate it from most Chinese restaurants more

Wan-Poo 11/17/2006

I went here for lunch after hearing about it from some co-workers. The food was horrible and so was the service. They were not very accomodating and the rice was dry and flavorless. I have not been back and would recommedn that nobody else goes either. more

Perfect if you LOVE MSG MIGRAINES! 9/29/2006

not only is the food not so great... it is so packed with MSG that you get to remember this horrible experience for the next 24 hours! more

Great Food 1/29/2005

Awesome Food!! 10/6/2004

This place is the place to go!! The food was awesome and cheap! I paid $7.50 for an egg roll, small bowl of soup and a fried chicken wing (which all of it was really good). THEN they brought out my Lo Mein and it was AWESOME! It was piled HIGH on my plate and all of that was just too much food for me! *Note: they have a notice saying that they don't have the fastest chef and apologize if it takes longer than it should to get your food. However, my food was prompt, fresh and hot! One con: I don't like spicy food and most of the items on the menu had a red pepper symbol next to them, meaning they were spicy. However, the waitress assured me that the spicy items weren't all that spicy. I just wasn't brave enough to try one and find out. Pros: CHEAP, great food, good serving sizes more

Great food, not always so...clean 11/19/2003

The food is great here. Its rare to find a Chinese restaurant with food this cheap and wonderful. There is a problem with the service sometimes, though. It has gotten worse in the past few years in that the waitstaff usually visits you when taking your order, bringing your food and maybe (if you're lucky) checking on you once to see how its going. They used to bring hot mustard and a really good orange and apricot sauce with the eggrolls, but now you just get the sauce (unless you can chase down one of the speedy waitstaff who seem almost supernatural in their ability to dissappear). A hint for any restaurant: Keep the items that stay on the table clean. On my last few visits, the soy sauce container, salt shaker and pepper shaker appeared to be coated in a decade's worth of god knows what. Pros: amazing food, great prices, quick arrival of food Cons: dingy, sketchy service more

GREAT FOOD 8/8/2003

This is my absolute favorite in Chinese food. Highly recommended. Pros: great food, great service, great sesame chicken more

less than avg chinese food 2/24/2003

The only time I come here is as a last resort. Most of the food is very generic and not very authentic tasting. more

scrumptious 12/16/2002

this is(in my opinion) the best chinese food dine-in or take-out in austin, the food is portioned just right and the service is good..someone wanting to eat chinese in austin would be recommended by me to eat at wanfu's more

Wanfu is Good Food! 11/8/2002

Never before or after have I experienced such exquisitie Chinese cousine as Wanfu. Everything on the menu is delicious, but the General Tso's Chicken is spiced to perfection that will lightly zing the tastebuds and leave you anxious for the next bite. Chinese food after Wanfu has been found wanting. Ambience and service are also excellent. Pros: inexpensive, good wine selection, corner location Cons: no smoking, sometimes packed, a little small more

Great Place 11/5/2002

Great place for students or anyone on a budget who wants to fill their gut. Pros: Low Price, Lots of Food, Great for Students more

This is the SHEIT, GO EAT HERE 8/30/2002

They have some of the best chinese food in Austin. Buffet Palace should be under them, not above them. more
