A welcome change... 4/14/2006

I was browsing through citysearch, and I found this place. It is close to where I live and I thought I would give it a try. It was easy to make an appointment. I was able to get an appointment the same day that I called. When I walked in the salon, I was surprised at how relaxing it felt. It was quiet because there weren't a lot of people (unlike the conveyor belt-like feeling you get in mall salons). Mari, the person who cut my hair, is nice and warm. Her assistant, Sari is also great! I liked the way my hair looked after the shampoo, cut and blowdry. I'll definitely go back. Pros: Nice staff, Quiet Cons: Parking more

Wonderful results 4/13/2006

I was doing locks for love and had a lot of hair to cut. She did a fabulous job cutting off all 11 inches, styling to a totally new look and giving me some color. I said I wanted natural subtle highlights, and I got just that. She really listened to what I said, and gave me pointers for future hair care. I am gone get married this summer so I was shoping for a good hairdresser and lets say I was not impressed my hair was okay I was charged to much and the salon is dark and the decor needs help I feel I could of gone to TGIf and got better service I was not happy. Highly Recommend! 2/24/2006

I've been going to Mari for cut and color for the past 7 years and she is wonderful. She's an excellent hairstylist, but also an incredible person. She always knows just what to do with my hair and I have never been disappointed with the results. I would highly recommend her and Village La Salon. more

I love this place, and Mari is great! The service is always excellent, and I couldn't imagine a better place than this. Mari is extremely flexible, and even though I always intend to make appointments, she lets me slide by ever time, and makes room for me anyway! Pros: availability, great service Cons: parking more

I fell Like a new women, Sami did a great job her hands are wonderful she is very blessed and talented and god, does she know color she broke it down for me from A to Z. The salon its self needs some up dating its a flash back from the 80s. Let me say everyone is nice and I am hooked on Sam's highlighting shes a wonderful hair dresser thanks I will see you for my touch up in and out in 2 hours WOW!!!!!!! Great hair cuts for guys too..... 12/8/2005

I walked into the Village Salon 2 years ago because I was going on a trip and needed a haircut. In all my years, I have never been loyal to any haircutter. However, I have been to no one else since that day. Mari just knows how to cut my hair. The atmosphere is great and I can usually get in on short notice. Plus, she is great to talk to and always makes you feel very comfortable. I would highly recommend Mari to anyone. more

I found Village La Salon on CitySearch and needed a bikini wax. I chose this place because of the location in the upscale area of West U. I expected to get the same kind of through service but instead paid $25 to get a half wax job and had to finish the rest myself. I do not recommend this place for your waxing needs. I am not sure about the hair service but the place is a little run down and needs a major renovation. more

I had highlights and a cut. The highlights look gorgeous. I have gotten so many compliments. Sami just asked me a few questions and off she went. The colors she chose are perfect for my skin tone. I have recommended Sami to all of my friends. Pros: Great hair Cons: Parking more

I finally found someone that I will be happy to go back to for a highlight and syle. Samantha was great and I really appreciate her listening to what I wanted and turning that into a great highlight and lowlight combination. She is very knowledgeable and I will definitely recommend her to anyone I know that is looking for a great color expert and stylist. more

I saw Sami for just a cut, but I'm sure I'll go back for color too. She was great. She gave a great cut and she did it very quickly. She was very friendly. Overall I really enjoyed the experince. She is great, and her price was incredible for someone of her experince level. more

Samantha, the new colorist/stylist, is wonderful. Her many years of experience in the coloring industry clearly show - with the very little information I gave her, she turned my dark brown hair into a beautifully highlighted masterpiece. She's also very efficient, has wonderful chairside manner, and the cut is great too. The salon itself is very low-key and modest--look past the outdated decor. Like the previous reviewer said, inside the salon itself is quite dark and you need to go outside in order to look at your hair - which is really weird, and I'm sure they'll fix that soon. I took in the $20 off coupon (printed from this site) and my total for cut and highlights was extremely reasonable. They were able to see me the same day, but when word about Sam starts to get around, I am sure her appointment book will fill up fast. Pros: Samantha, highlights, convenient location Cons: 90's decor, dark inside! more

Disappointed 10/12/2005

I tried this salon out for the first time and was somewhat disappointed with the results. While the haircut I received was wonderful, the service was subpar. I was charged too much for the service I received. I had high expectations going in, but after this experience, I will definitely think twice about returning. more

I found the salon from looking through CitySearch and tried it when traveled to Houston. I had the best haircut and enjoyed the service and the convenience of the salon. Thanks to city search I found the perfect salon!! I'm still new to Houston and the somewhat pricy salon that I had been using went out of business. To make a long story short--I tried to high-light my hair and really messed it up...I knew that I wanted someone that was experienced and tallented without paying an arm and a leg!! I searched and called several salons and decided to drop by Village La Salon on University to get a consult....Thank goodness--Mari was fantastic, kind, friendly and very tallented!! Now, I feel like a new woman--she helped me pick out some low-lights and corrected a section that I needed some high-lights and gave me a fun cut with style!! Now I'm ready for the world with a salon on my side!!! Pros: fair pricing, parking, friendly more

Originally, I am from California, I was here on a business trip, my friend recommended this hair salon. I was so glad that they could schedule me an appointment on a short notice. I got hair cut and color by Mari, what a sweet lady. She made me feel at home and did such a wonderful job that I wished she had lived in San Francisco. Their prices were very reasonable and the service, exquisite. I wished I had more time to stay in order to try other services that they offer. My wife and I travel to Houston often, I will highly recommend this hair salon to my wife, and I am sure she will like the service and the atmosphere as much as I did.
