dance dance! 4/27/2009

This is such a cool place. Perfect spot for dancing. Very cosy. Nice crowd. The bartenders are very friendly. They serve pretty well. Good job for this place. :D more

Dance Dance Dance 12/4/2008

This is the spot to drink and dance. Usually the good clubs are crowded but this spot it perfect. Also the drinks are awsome. Pros: Dancing Cons: Service more

Great deals, but gets packed too! 7/27/2008

This bar is cool since it's right down the street from where I stay. They have a smoking lounge (says it's a patio, but actually indoors, which is nice) for smokers like me... They have a great happy hour, and 4 for $10 Jello Shots 24/7! Can't beat that! There's also dancing with a pretty big floor (for this part of town) but it gets packed on the weekends. The bartenders serve quickly and with lots of friendliness, despite large crowds. If you can squeeze your way to the counter, you'll get served quickly. Pros: Great deals on drinks all the time, smoking lounge, dancing, diverse crowd Cons: Gets super packed (and I mean PACKED!) on weekends during peak bar hours, doesn't take ATM/Credit cards for tabs (but there is an ATM inside for withdrawls :-) Pros: Drink deals, dancing, smoking lounge, location (from my place) Cons: Parking looks hard, gets really packed during weekend peaks, can't run a tab more

Excellent Dance Bar 2/9/2008

As a local who loves Vertigo, I know exactly who the dude is who goes by the screen name "Tribaldelic" is. This is the sort of local color that you run past quickly in order to enter a club on Polk Street. God bless the owners of Vertigo, for taking what was a run down, tired bar, and turning it into a cool, hip dance bar. I love this bar, and it's owners and always enjoy the atmosphere they provide. I only wish that people like Tribeldelic would learn that begging for change to buy his "groove on" on Polk Street is no longer cool. Get a lesson from Brittney...it's not working for both of you. Pros: dancing, smoking room Cons: low lifes like Tribaldeilic more

AWESOME with one tiny little glitch 12/9/2007

Owner, also Owner of LUSH down the street needs to take a course in Public Relations - I'd patron both bars more often with recommendations if the owner sold out to someone more professional. Owner is not freindly with Gayz Clientele - probably because he dosnt want his BF thinking he's foolin around - so he's mean and nasty to the Gayz at large - the dinosaur would be better off up in the Castro! STAY home Mr owner, stay out of sight so we can all get back to windin down with our freinds and freindly bartenders. more

Perfect blend 2/9/2007

I've been to just about every bar/club there is in sf, and i have to say Vertigo is the best! maybe those of you that think its a "frat" party should go somewhere else. Mr. Kenny is the most friendly bar owner/operations/bartender there is! (maybe you were just being an a**, if you thought they were rude) If you can't afford two bucks go anywhere else on a fri or sat night and tack on a zero to the two and see where rude over priced drinks come from.... The music goes from the left to right but so do the people, thats kinda the point.... if you want to listen to the same cr@p all night long there are a plenty of hip hop boom boom played out 94.9 105.3 places to go. if bathrooms are that much of an issue or your that vain get over it and move on... I love it there its fun if you have never been its a cool place to go... more

Decent crowd, strange mix of music, rude bartender 12/2/2006

Just got back from partying at this place, and I must say that the crowd isn't a bad one, nor is the decor. The music is a strange mix though. The DJ went from hip hop, to 70s funk, to something that sounded like it was from the 50s and back to hip hop/pop. It's a great place to dance, unpretentious crowd. Only complaint I have the rude bartender who overcharged me for my drinks (the other bartender charged me LESS for the same drink) and was plain, flat out rude. No more tips for that rude guy if I go back. Pros: Decent crowd, okay music Cons: Rude bartender, parking more

I would rather party in my car. 10/23/2006

Vertigo is the reason why I don't let my friends (or friends of friends) select the nightlife destination. If I wanted to go to a frat party, I would have visited one of the local universities. The bathroom is the size of my Acura's glove compartment. I can understand waiting for a drink if you have hot chicks in tight jeans and heels, parading around in front of you. But that is not happening at Vertigo. Remember, you get what you paid for. Vertigo's cover is $2. Pros: They provide employment Cons: I would send my enemies here. more

Terrible customer service 9/11/2006

The staff at Vertigo are truly offensive. They are condescending and rude, but at the same time they permanently boozed up to the point that they can't complete sentences. I urge you not to patronize this bar. It's just not worth giving abusive drunks your money. Pros: None Cons: The staff ruins you experience more

OHHHH!!! WHAT A NIGHT 9/7/2006

SO LET'S SEE..........I almost don't want to say positive things about this place bc I don't want all the rif-raf to find out about it but let me tell you........THIS PLACE IS MY FAVORITE PLACE IN THE CITY! I typically hangout at all the "hot spots" but I always..always...always end up here. This is the BEST place in the city! Kenny is my hero...and Yuri is my object of affection! :-) Anyway, if you are looking for a great time...no hassle...this is the spot! Btwn Lush Lounge and Vertigo---it's everything you could want. I have been a patron for 3 years now and I have yet to be disappointed. The only thing I would like to see is mirrors in the bathroom- a girl likes to see what she looks like or if she needs more lipstick :-) I highly recommend Vertigo and Lush Lounge! Go..have a great time...and dance till 2am! Pros: Everything Cons: Parking more

Good times! 4/5/2006

I went to Vertigo for the first time this past weekend. I had a great time dancing, the music was better than most "clubs" I've been to here in the city. It was a bit crowded, but not to the point where it made you want to leave. Drinks were good as well. I'll definitely go back! Pros: music, drinks, dance floor more

WORTH A DETOUR 3/23/2005

THIS PLACE IS WORTH VISITING FOR THE BARTENDER ALONE. YURI MAKES DRINKS AS WELL AS HE MAKES CONVERSATION...THE HOST KENNY MAKES EVERYONE FEEL LIKE HE'S SPINNING THEIR OWN PERSONAL RECORD COLLECTION. FROM THE DOORMAN TO THE BAR-BACK THESE GUYS GIVE A1 SERVICE EVEN ON THE BUSIEST NIGHTS. NEED TO UP-GRADE THE BATHROOMS TO BRING THEM IN LINE WITH THE REST OF THE VERTIGO EXPERIENCE...NO MIRRORS JUST DON'T CUT IT. more

Ok Place 8/25/2004

The new bouncer is not as nice as the previous one, and does not seem to know what he is doing. The bartenders rock! Drinks are Faboo! DJ's vary, weekend guy is quirky but gets the teeny dance floor all sweaty and hot...that's good. Who will be dj'ing is always a surprise. Pros: Great Drinks, Fun Bartenders, good music Cons: , teenie dancefloor, different dj's more

For the price, can't get worse. 8/11/2004

$2.00 cover? SURE! We're in! Walk in. Dancefloor is TINY. The DJ was spinning CD's and the system would cut out half a second with every track he played. The DJ went from hip hop to 70's (he played DEVO!!!), to Def Leppard (he played POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME!!). He was all over the map. What an awful awful dance night. Drinks however were ok. But, if the bouncer says, $2 cover....be afraid. Be very afraid. Pros: Cheap Cover, Decent Drinks Cons: , SUCKY DJ, SUCKY DJ more

Definite destination 8/8/2004

This is a great place! I always take people here when they visit from out of town, and nobody's been disappointed. They have a menu of exotic drinks with San Francisco-inspired names, and on the television at the back of the bar you can usually see the Hitchcock classic "Vertigo" playing. The bartenders are very nice and friendly, and the music's great! It's more of a bar than a dance club, but on Saturday night the dance floor definitely gets packed! Then to cool off you walk a few steps to the smoking patio, where the fresh air blows in from outside... this really is a cool bar and I really like the fact that there is always a mixed crowd. One of my favorite nights to go is the first Thursday of every month when they do 1920's night! Definitely worth checking out! Pros: nice staff, great atmosphere, good drinks more

Did not seem special 7/16/2004

Nothing special. Ok atmosphere, but was almost empty (30 people) when we were there at 11:00 on Friday night. Mid 30-s crowd, too old for me. Seemed to be a local hangout more
