I had an appt. with Avery a few days ago and I was very impressed!! She was extremely personable and down to earth. She listened to me and spent time assessing my hair and making recommendations about what type of cut and style would work best for me and my hair type and personality. She seemed extremely knowledgeable, and the end result proved it!! I love my hair and have had a number of compliments on it!!! If you are looking for someone who will take time with you and listen to you and send you out the door with great looking hair, go see Avery!!! more

I asked how I could find out exactly what I would be charged before coming in to get the service done. (A $50 charge applies even if you discuss the service with your stylist, and decide not to get it done. This didn't make sense to me - what if I wanted to know the prices ahead of time, before paying $50 for a consultation?) I was misled to believe that if I came by, a stylist would take a moment to look at my hair and inform me of the prices of my treatments BEFORE my appointment. I didn't want to consult with the stylist (truthfully, I'd never heard of a salon charging $50 for a brief exchange with the stylist) because I already knew exactly which treatments I wanted. (And yes, the salon charges $50 for a consultation. I read a review in which a client is discredited in a post in which a client complains of the $50 charge for consultations. If you call and ask for a consultation, you will be informed of the $50 charge. Try it, rather than reading the well-presented responses to posts on this website.) I took an hour off of work to visit the salon in person during the slot of time that the receptionist told me a stylist would be available. She paid no heed to what she had informed me over the phone, and said that there was no way I could be given a price without either coming in for an appointment (a $50 charge automatically, without knowing what treatment you will be getting!) or scheduling a consultation (again, $50). I was miffed by this reluctance to, at the very least, offer me a quote on the treatments I was interested in. I was very thorough in explaining exactly what I wanted to have done. Nonetheless, the receptionist seemed to act as if my question presented a strange enigma. It was as if I had no right to know the cost of the treatments before I booked an appointment. I was appalled by this blatant disregard of what I'd been told previously. I'd taken an hour off of work - in addition to a good deal of time spent on the phone discussing the treatments I was interested in. I had come in person. I was preparing to spend at least $400 or $450 at this salon. Not only was I given no quote for the treatment I intended to have, but the reason cited was that the ""salon policy"" was to charge $50 for a color consultation because, according to the receptionist, the ""best salon for color in Atlanta"" - her words, to the best of my memory - ""can't have people coming in for a consultation, then going to other salons and giving them the information we gave them."" I had been intending to have my hair done at that salon, up until that point. But that assertion seemed paranoid, almost eery. I just wanted a quote. My general impression of the salon was one of haughtiness, disregard of customers, and, most importantly, hypocrisy. I did not return because, out of principal, I do not want to give business to fraudulent establishments. I believe that I was deliberately misled. I have a right as a customer to know what I will be paying for a service before paying $50 for a consultation with someone who I may or may not choose to return to. I've never walked out of any Salon knowing the way I want to look. I went to Van Michael knowing they have the best stylist in town without any expectations. My hair was dull, damaged, and breaking. I asked Billy-Jo to cut out my bad hair. It was scarey but I wanted to get rid of my damaged hair. It was the best thing I've done for my self in years. I just got my 2nd haircut with Billy-Jo today. Wow!!! I love my new look. She gave me a beautiful put together look that will easily transition into a longer look over time. Life without the rats nest is Heaven!!! The Aveda products she recommended are taking my hair to the next level. more

Recently, made an appointment for the first time at Van Michael and saw Hannah. Hannah was amazing! I have never received so many positive comments about my hair! I needed a major change in hair style and Hannah provided very creative ideas and options. She was also very fun and engaging. The finish look of my hair was better than I could have imagined. Hannah listened to my hair needs and desires. Then, she designed a hair cut that fit what I had asked for and more. She also recommended a colorist, Jocelyn and set a appointment time for me. Jocelyn was also wonderful! Both girls provided such amazing customer service. My highest expectations were met! You have made a customer for life! Thank you, Hannah and Jocelyn! more

I walked through the doors of Van Michael Salon last Friday with my hair in the classic "growing out" phase.......need I say more? The staff were gracious and inviting which of course complimented the already lovely atmostphere of the salon itself. I thought I'd be leaving with perhaps nothing more than a trimmed up, slightly neater version of the same growing out stage. I was soooooo happily mistaken! Davo transformed my oh-so awkward and tired hair into a fantastic and striking style.......all the while allowing for the growth I'm working towards. I feel he really customized my cut every step of the way, taking into consideration my hair type (baby fine and stick straight), shape of my face, lifestyle, etc., etc. He offered different options and suggestions as he worked and kept the communication open so we remained on the same page throughout. Davo is a seasoned and highly professional stylist, but also a complete joy and a wonderful human being! I've already received several compliments from both friends and strangers alike - which of course feels great, and it goes without saying he is highly recommended to all. I'm so thrilled and relieved to know that I don't have to compromise great style while growing out my hair........I will now be leaving it all in Davo's very talented and capable hands!! more

I love this Van Michael salon. When I moved to Atlanta from NY I was afraid that I wasn't going to get the edgy style and great service that I'm used to up north but this salon is GREAT! I always see Harry for my hair and Sadie is great for coloring. Very professional, great products for sale, cut, color, make up, even a great little beverage bar. I have made it a ritual to get my hair styled by Harry before a big interview or project at work because it's proven to be very good luck. I actually went today and I have an interview tomorrow! more

Harry is so knowledgeable that I do not have to tell him what I think I may want. Today, he told me I was going to look sexy and not only do I look it, I feel it. Another phenomenal aspect of Harry's stylist philosophy is he shows you how to achieve the look at home. I hate it when you leave a salon and you cannot replicate what was done, but not with Harry. Having an appointment with Harry is amazing, not only is he a hair mastermind, he is down to earth, friendly and a great person. I urge everyone to try Van Michael's and ask for Harry. Dallas trained under Harry so she is a colorist extraordinaire. Dallas transformed my hair from a bad home color job to a gorgeous sassy blond. Personality wise, Dallas is a 10. What a fun person to chat with (or if that's not your thing I'm sure she would be fine with that). My hair looks great the color is perfect. I can not say enough about Harry and Dallas. I highly recommend Van Michael's. The treat you like the most important person in the world. more

Harry Wood of Van Michael Salon in Sandy Springs is the best~from attentive, caring, personalized service, precision hair cuts and the BEST KERATIN TREATMENT IN ATLANTA! He always goes above and beyond any stylist I have ever had style my hair and it more than shows. My hair has never looked this great and I owe it all to Harry. I had a high school reunion this summer and he went out of his way to make me feel like I was the most beautiful woman there. Harry truly cares about his clients and their needs. Harry has been styling hair for many, many years and now that he does Keratin treatments, my hair looks even better. I have wavy hair that tends toward frizz, especially in the Atlanta humidity.
