I'm surprised that no one else has reviewed this great new bar yet, so I want to give my two cents to ensure that people check this place out. I've been to Union Park three times ...

Would give it no stars if possible 3/19/2011

Austin is full of great places and hangouts, but I would highly avoid this one. The place was busy and asked us for our credit card when we ordered. I thought this was odd, but given the crowds, I figured this was a cautionary measure to avoid sometone stiffing the place. Well now I can see why someone might want to dine and dash on this joint! Food is decent and the location is great, but the management is some of the worst in the industry. We had a gift certificate that we were going to use and the restaurant would not honor it. We presented our discount to the waiter at time of ordering, and she said that she would take it at the end of the meal. Well, when the end of the meal came, so did management saying they were no longer honoring the discount. We explained our situation, and expected at least for the establishment to meet us halfway on the bill, since we were trying them out because of their ""promotion"". The refused and left us with the option to call the police to deal with the matter or we could take the $10.00 discount they offered instead of the $25 that we should have received. We had already waitied 20 minutes for the bill and for management to give us our $10 discount. Then, when the bill arrived, it was for the wrong table. We should have paid that one, since it was cheaper than ours. We had to wait another 10 minutes for the correct bill to arrive with our credit card back, so that we could pay and leave...and NEVER RETURN. Eat at your own risk! \r more

For the younger crowd 5/25/2010

I stopped in here with some friends on a girl's night. We are all moms and found the crowd a little young. This place has nice mojitos and a cool rooftop bar, but it got much too crowded around midnight.\r \r The bathroom downstairs was a mess - hopefully not like that all the time! Pros: Mojitos Cons: Awful bathroom more

Boom Boom Room! 4/27/2008

I've been to this bar many times and it's never failed to provide an excellent time. They have fun music, and I've only recently discovered the ""Boom Boom Room"" in the back for great dancing. It's crowded, but full of good-looking people (albeit some are the yuppie-type). As far as the people who have had problems with their credit cards here, I personally never use a credit card at any bar. I only use cash for several reasons: A) I don't trust myself with one when I've been drinking (I tip too much or forget my card at the bar), B) I don't trust others with my card (especially when they know I've been drinking--easier to take advantage), and C)Having a set budget keeps me from drinking too much. Pros: great music, attractive people, great dancing Cons: yuppies more

Fraud 2/16/2008

I went to Union Park last week and opened a tab. When I went to close out my tab, they could not find it. After sending me up to one of their upstairs bars, they still could not locate the tab. They responded with a shrug and ""I don't know what happened to your card."" Of course I was angry, so I kept pressing - then they came back and said that my tab had already been closed out by someone else - implying that they had given my card to the wrong person. I checked my bank account later that night and sure enough, there was the charge. Canceled my card and will never return to this sh*thole again. Pros: none. Cons: terrible customer service, terrible service period more

Good Spot but it's getting too crowded.... Owner is a tool. 2/10/2008

This place is pretty cool. the boom boom room is a joke. The owner is this short stocky guy with a bad attitude and if you need to call the place to get help or if you lost something... forget it. What makes this place great is some of the best bartenders I have ever had. Very nice, Very fun, super drinks. The place is a good one and the food is really good. But... Stay away from the upper deck... far too crowded. Oh... and did I mention. The owner is a complete JackA**. Pros: Great Food, Great Bartenders Cons: Some nights it's just too crowded. Bamboo Bar top is always sticky. more

making great profit 8/30/2007

My account was charged twice in August by Union Park bar, the only problem that I have not been at Union Park since the beginning of June. I have called the bar several time after I noticed that they charged my account on the 9th of August. I left messages but no one returned my calls. I had to go down to the bar on the 23rd of August when the manager informed me that there was a computer glitch in their system. He also mentioned that it happened to everyone who was there around that date. \r The club ""accidentally"" took money out twice of everyone's account that was there around the 8th of June. And instead of them refunding the amounts automatically, I have to request refund from them through my bank. Just as I was filing the request with my bank, I checked my account on the 28th of August. Surprisingly, there was another $25 charge on my account processed by the 27th of August by Union Park again when they did not provide any service. \r \r I wonder how many times they can do this. How much profit are they making by triple charging their customers? How many customers will even notice their false charges? Isn?t it should be their responsibility to inform their customers or reverse the false charges?\r CHECK your account for the 8th and the 27th of August for false charges! Pros: upstairs view Cons: $$$ on the long run, crowded, slow service more

Incredible Mojitos 5/17/2007

I recently visited Union Park for a birthday party. Their rooftop bar looks like it stepped out of a Pottery Barn catalog with palm trees! It was relaxing and a great place for a big group. Their happy hour prices were great. Their frozen mojitos were $3.\r \r The bartenders were friendly and quick to get your order, our cocktail waitress however was horrible. I have heard that bad service is not usually the norm here, so maybe the waitress was having a bad night. Anyway, try the hummus it is the best I've ever had. Pros: Roof top bar, relaxing, great drinks more

Great drinks, appetizers and rooftop bar 1/17/2007

I'm surprised that no one else has reviewed this great new bar yet, so I want to give my two cents to ensure that people check this place out. I've been to Union Park three times since they opened, including their grand opening party, and have had a blast every time. The frozen mojitos are one of their specialties, and they are delicious. The regular mojitos are great too, along with a lovely pink martini made with strawberry nectar (if you like really sweet drinks). \r \r I definitely recommend their southwestern eggrolls, and enjoyed all our appetizers. The servers are super-friendly and our tabs at the end of the night were incredibly cheap, so they must have good happy hour deals. \r \r Besides the great mojitos and food, the real appeal of Union Park is its large rooftop bar. During our first visit it got a little chilly after dark so our waiter handed out cozy blankets and cranked up the propane heaters, which was a great touch. \r \r I don't give out high ratings all of the time, but I definitely see Union Park becoming a downtown hotspot. Pros: Mojitos, appetizers, rooftop view and stylish atmosphere Cons: None that I saw more
