Udupi Palace 2/7/2007

Udupi Palace serves the best south Indian food I have found in the Seattle area. This small, humble restaurant is located near the cinema in the Crossroads Mall (not inside the mall, but alongside it). They have opened a second location in Issaquah called Dosa Palace. I have never been there. Dosa Palace 730 NW Gilman Blvd. Suite #C-107 Issaquah, Washington Phone : (425) 369-2343 more

Udupi Palace offers a South Indian menu and lunch buffet 6/1/2006

Because of its South Indian bent, the lunch buffet at Udupi Palace presents seasoned Indian buffet-ers with a new experience. This isn't just because of the baffling way they've set up the buffet. (I had a hard time figuring out at which end to begin.) The food at Udupi Palace is all vegetarian and tends not to be as spicy as the North Indian dishes you find at other Indian buffets. As with any buffet, you won't get a lot of help from the servers in discerning the contents of one dish from another. They seem to rely much more on daal (lentils) and on coconut and nut bases in their recipes, which is great for me because I like those flavors. Not so good if you have allergies. The only way to figure out what's what is to fill your little metal cups with this and that and taste lots of different dishes. Luckily, you'll mostly find hits instead of misses. more

Udupi isn't exactly a Palace, but it is a great value for those who like what they do. 5/30/2006

I admit that I prefer Northern Indian cuisine, which as a rule seems thicker, 'milkier' and with a different combination of spices; I recommend the coconut chutney. But I do like this as a counterpoint to my overindulgence of the aforementioned fare. Some people prefer to not have paneer and the other usuals in their buffet and there are rare occasions when this is true for me. I like their Dosas which slightly resemble crepes, because one can stuff just about anything on their buffet into one. By the way, don't make the mistake of loading lots of hot food onto one of their metal dishes and carrying it from the bottom... more

Good Dosa 4/12/2006

They mainly serve south indian food. But their Dosa's are exceptional. Good place for vegetarian people. They also serve lunch buffet. If you order dosa let them to give the stuffing separately in this way the dosa stays crispy for a long time. This is in the cross road mall so you also do some shopping in the same time. more

Bypass Seattle Indian food and head straight for this place 2/13/2006

Udupi Palace distinguishes itself from the pack of restaurants in Seattle. It is a completely vegetarian restaurant that serves some of the best south Indian cuisine I have had in a while. The dosa's were freshly prepared as was the poori. But the real standout was the curry. It is both sweet and salty and full of the perfect blend of spices. The restaurant service is perfunctory and the clientele with the exception of my table all south Indian. One dinner with a lassi will cost about ten to fifteen dollars. more

like all the other reviews said.. 1/12/2006

This place does South Indian food. I didn't know what south indian food was, so it wasn't what I expected (no saag paneer etc.), but it was still very good. The lunch buffet was good and most of the people eating at the restaurant were Indian, which seems like a good sign to me. It's easy to get to and park at since it's at the Crossroads mall. It was $17 for two people for the lunch buffet, no extra drinks or anything. more

South Indian Vegetarian in Crossroads Mall 8/20/2005

Udupi stands out from the rest of the Indian restaurants in this area because they serve mainly South Indian style food. The big draw here are the dosas, an Indian crepe made from fermented rice batter, with a choice of fillings to choose from. They even have a six foot long dosa if you're starving or feeding a crowd! There is usually a buffet option offered Thali-style ( it's served in a metal tray). Pick up a round metal tray with small metal cups and you can fill up on what's offered on the buffet. I am not vegetarian, but this is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in the area. Too bad we always have to go to the Eastside to get good Indian. more

Great South Indian Food 8/16/2005

Udupi has very tasty south Indian food. I recommend it to anyone who's never tried south Indian food before, it's surprisingly different than the traditional curries of most Indian restaurants. We found the service and value to be excellent. The sambar and coconut chutney were both quite good (the staples of this type of food). While the restaurant itself is a bit blah, I would certainly go back. But watch out for the gulab jamum, they were rubbery! more

Good Dhosa... 8/13/2005

Dont ever try if you are looking for gujarati or north indian food as all they know is dhosa and idli tipical south indian dish. I am indian and love all indian food but to me their buffet sucks. I really was confused what can i eat as nothing looked interesting as everythng was sweet in taste. more

Udupi Palace 7/23/2005

Udupi Palace is my favorite Indian restaurant this side of New Delhi. The food comes served in Thali trays, (tin serving dishes) and is in the South Indian tradition, unlike most Indian restaurants in the Seattle area which serve in the North Indian tradition (buttery curries, Tandoori chicken and meats). The Dahl, (lentils) dhosas, and sambars (soups) are the closest things you'll find to real S Indian food in Seattle. more

Delicious south Indian vegetarian food (dosas, etc.) 8/27/2004

Udupi Palace is at the Crossroads shopping center in Bellevue. The menu is outstanding - there are so many options for vegetarians. Try a dosa (very thin pancake) stuffed with fresh chopped tomatoes, coriander, and onion with chutney etc. The portions are huge and the mains are very reasonable. more
