Best

My husband and I love this restaurant. Their all you can eat buffet is lavish and oh so delicious. They have both North and South Indian entries. The owner Sean is a great host.

Worst

Simply stated: this is not Indian cuisine. The flavors are so off, you have to wonder who is really in the kitchen! Having grown up around many Indian families and eating in man...

Trust me, I have had better..... However, for South Florida, it doesn't really get any better than this. Usually way too much salt for my tastes but not super greasy. All vegetarian. An Indian couple turned us on to this place. The food is not the usual slop found in Indian restaurants across America where every dish usually looks the same and has the same consistency. Each dish tastes different. The Thali platter is a good choice for a sampler. Not pretentious. Fairly consistent food. Best choice we have found for Indian food in this area. more

This place used to be nice when it first opened up some 5 years ago. The lunch buffet has stale food. The tables are always dirty. Would NOT recommend this place at all. more

When you walk in you take a seat wherever you'd like. Udipi is vegetarian with some vegan options. I have not tried any of the vegan dishes yet. The lentil soup is delicious, although very spicy. The potato bonda (appetizer) is also good. The lentil balls (as an appetizer) are somewhat tasteless. I've ordered the asian noodles, which are somewhat spicy and a little oily. I've also ordered the smashed eggplant with a side of mashed yellow potatoes and rice. All of the food is good, but be careful if you are vegan, since many of the vegetarian dishes come with a milk based sauce, etc. The service is OK. Personally I enjoyed having the women serve (she was attentive and nonsexist which is of course typical for a woman server to be), not the male one (with the black glasses and childish grin). Went there with my significant other (who is a man) and did not appreciate how the male waiter directed all his questions and answers towards my significant other. Just because I am a woman, does not mean I am invisible. Some may say this is irrelevant, so I guess they must either be a man or a passive woman. It may be due to the culture of Udipi, and most likely is. Nevertheless, good food and not too expensive. more

This was by far the best Indian food my wife & I have had in Broward county, and actually anywhere. We had the buffet and it was incredible. Really fresh, perfectly seasoned food that was quickly replenished once it was getting low. We can't wait to try the dinner menu because I'm sure that's even better. We will not go to any other Indian restaurants now, this is our new place. The food is vegetarian, but my wife and I are not. I didn't miss the meat at all, and they provide plenty of protein in the food with garbanzo beans, lentils, and other types of beans. My wife doesn't like "health food" or lentils at all, but LOVED this place. I don't write reviews for restaurants, but was so impressed with this place that I had to the second I got home (after I took a nap that is). more

The food did not taste good, rather bland and without much flavor. The menu is big, but not all items on the menu are available, and some of the dishes tasted stale. Won't be going there again ! more

My family and I go there once a week. We love the food . \r One comment to Jota Pe's review. Why are you eating chicken tikka in a vegetarian restaurant? more

My husband and I really enjoy the lunch buffet at Udipi Cafe. We love the ease of grabbing our food and sitting down to a quiet lunch. My favorite dish is the chick peas in red sauce (no idea the name of any dishes). I love to dip the 'pancake' in the sauce. Really good and different food at the restaurant. If you like new things try it. You will not miss meat at this vegetarian venue. more

Santosh, the owner greeted me at the door. He is so gregarious. He offered me the Madhuri Masala Dosai it is a 50 inch long crepe with mashed potatoes inside. The crepe was so crispy and delicious almost addicting to break off the pieces and eat piece after piece. The lentil soup was a spicy delight. I recommend eating here. more

When I reviewed the menu at the restaurant, I was a little challenged as nothing looked familiar to me. My friend and I ordered the Potato Bonda as an appetizer and it was quite tasty. The waiter suggested the South Indian Thali which my friend and I split. On first glance, it did not seem like it would be enough for the two of us but it was and it was good. The service was not great but the food was very good. I would certainly venture back to try another meal. more

We love coming as a family and with groups of friends the service is always fun and accomadating. The menu provides wonderful variety...love EVERYTHING as the seasonings are many layered and stimating. The lunch buffet is a special bargin of many dishes; often with my favorite, saag paeer, and then also included is the special surprise of the ndividual potatoe dosa. Yum! more

I was in traveling to Ft Lauderdale and staying in the area. Late night (after 10) I stopped by Udipi to see if I could get vegetarian meal (hard to get in this area after hours). They had just closed, but the owner was nice enough to provide takeout. The food was great - the customer service was even better. Worth visiting. more

Mixed feelings on decent food 2/15/2009

I finally went here on a GREAT recommendation from a friend, and I had mixed feelings about the place. They seemed a bit confused about the menu when asked about certain things, the wrong dishes came out and at the wrong level of spice(my wife likes none and I like too much...but she kept getting way too spicy dishes). This was a mixed blessing, because I now have A LOT of leftovers at no additional charge. The entrees that I ordered were pretty tasty, but I thought my wife's eggplant was rather average. My biggest complaint was the appetizers....we got the mixed plate and truthfully, the five or so items all tasted exactly the same. Too much batter, too much fried flavor. Oh well....back to Royal India on Griffin, where the food is FANTASTIC! more
