When you walk in you take a seat wherever you'd like. Udipi is vegetarian with some vegan options. I have not tried any of the vegan dishes yet. The lentil soup is delicious, although very spicy. The potato bonda (appetizer) is also good. The lentil balls (as an appetizer) are somewhat tasteless. I've ordered the asian noodles, which are somewhat spicy and a little oily. I've also ordered the smashed eggplant with a side of mashed yellow potatoes and rice. All of the food is good, but be careful if you are vegan, since many of the vegetarian dishes come with a milk based sauce, etc. The service is OK. Personally I enjoyed having the women serve (she was attentive and nonsexist which is of course typical for a woman server to be), not the male one (with the black glasses and childish grin). Went there with my significant other (who is a man) and did not appreciate how the male waiter directed all his questions and answers towards my significant other. Just because I am a woman, does not mean I am invisible. Some may say this is irrelevant, so I guess they must either be a man or a passive woman. It may be due to the culture of Udipi, and most likely is. Nevertheless, good food and not too expensive.
