Impeccable preparation and ingredients are the hallmarks of this Austin institution. Go with friends during social hour and order one of everything-- you won't be sorry!

I've eaten sushi all over the world, including Nobu. Uchi is just silly. The host staff was pretentious and somewhat rude (girl with short black hair) and the food is just plain m...

Overpriced, loud. 11/6/2009

I would have to agree with some of the other recent reviews. While the food may be high quality it's just way to pricey for the size of the portions. It also has NO atmosphere - very loud and crowded. For a real authentic delicious Japanese experience & nice atmosphere save your money and go to Musashina's (my fav Japanese in Austin). more

Good, not spectacular 3/30/2006

I'd been hearing rave reviews of this place and finally got to try it tonight. We were one of the first to be seated and I was looking forward to the delicious sushi I was about to be served. I was a little disappointed with the sushi menu, however. I must point out, I don't eat any of the raw stuff, just the rolls. There weren't that many selections (10-12?) for a place that serves sushi. In addition, the rolls were smaller than what I am used to. The sushi was well made and tasty, however, I felt a little disappointed because I thought it was going to be one of the best I had ever tasted (blame it on the expectations based on the rave reviews). Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, just not one of the best. I also ordered the duck which was a "specialty" that night. Very nice flavoring. I also enjoyed the sauces that went along with the sushi. The tempura Japanese pumpkin was tasty as well. I was also a little disappointed in how quickly our dishes were served. I know it's not McDonald's, but we were the one of the first people seated tonight and I thought it took awhile to get our dishes out. (There were also 5 sushi chefs on duty at the time). All in all, a very nice place to try, but I won't be a regular. more

Good but pricey 12/8/2005

Uchi is very pretty. The menu is someone limited. The service is quite good. The food is good but pricey. Good ambiance. The waiter brought my daughter some mochi ice cream on the house. I thought that was very nice. I love the outdoor area w/ the cook IKEA chairs. more
