STAY AWAY!!! 1/25/2011

Although this restaurant is right in the heart of the Arena District and right down the street from the Short North, I would not waste the time or money on even visiting here! We went here with a group of friends for a birthday party of 15 and made reservations a week in advance. Only to have to wait for 20 minutes to be seated when we arrived. The service was slow and we had to go to the bar to get refills if we didn't want to wait 20 minutes... They only had 5 other tables eating too! The sushi was alright... nothing special.. the martinis were fine... again nothing special but because of the service and attitude from the employees I would never go there again or recommend to anyone... I bid them good luck staying in business! more

Not Bad 2/1/2010

My first time at Tyfoon. I read some prior reviews before going in...the atmosphere was nice..food was great. The seating was interesting. I found it more comfortable to take off my shoes and sit indian-style (maybe that's the iidea??). Martini's are advertised as being the best. They were not, and they had to run for ingredients!!! Over all it was a good experience though. Pros: Extensive menu, comfortable atmoshpere Cons: drinks have to come faster, bad martini's more

Style over Substance... 9/7/2008

In searching out new places for sushi, we decided to check out Tyfoon after reading good things. The decor is nice, but rather uncomfortable for the amount of time it takes to get a sushi dinner to your table on a busy Saturday night. We had reservations and were seated promptly for an 830 reservation. Ordered one type of Saki - they were out. Ordered an appetizer - they were out. Ordered another appetizer - out - asked waitress for appetizers they had on hand. (All appetizers attempted were normal menu items.)\r \r Sushi took 45 minutes to come to table. During this time, we had long-finished appetizer and Saki, and grew uncomfortable in the chairs. Waitress apologized a few times, but it did appear that this is standard practice. Nothing blew us away when we got our sushi and the bill was certainly a lot for the slow service and 86s experienced that night. \r \r Oh - the noise and din is better suited to a nightclub. Pros: Seated promptly with reservation. Cons: Many items not available at 830 PM, Long wait for Sushi more

Terrible service 8/1/2008

After eating at Typhoon several times and enjoying it, my husband and I went on an early evening at the end of a hot day this summer. As we walked in, I thought the room was rather warm, but I put that down to having walked two blocks from where we had parked;. We ordered. I kept feeling hot. We ate the appetizers. I felt even hotter. Finally I asked the waitress whether she felt hot and she said, oh, well, the air conditioner was broken so there was no air conditioning that night. Which I felt was deceptive; they should have warned people as they came in (it was in the mid-90s outside!!). I expressed some discontent about this to the waitress, who said nothing, really. A few minutes later, the entrees arrived. These were, of course, hot, and as I ate mine in my already overheated state I felt too ill to continue. We asked to have the entrees packaged to take home. Meanwhile, I went to the hostess stand to complain--assuming that our bill would be reduced since we hadn't even been able to stay--but the hostess just said 'sorry, we can't do anything about the air conditioning.' Bad enough, but when I got home and opened my styrofoam container of pad thai, there was hair in it. Not just one piece, but two long strands of hair right on top of the food. The pad thai went into trash; I had cereal for dinner. more
