The Best Steak EVERY TIME! 6/18/2010

Every time I come to STL I make it a habit to eat at Tucker's in SOULARD. Although my family and friends all live in South County. I won't eat anymore at the South County location.\r \r The Soulard location has all the pros great food, service and the prices are amazing for this quality of food.\r \r If you are a resident of St. Louis and haven't eaten at Tucker's you need to move! This is one of the best secrets in the country. Just come there VERY hungry! Pros: Great food,Service,Atmosphere, and Prices!! Cons: South County Location is terrible more

Cool food--literally 4/18/2008

Slow service and lukewarm food: We had late lunch on a weekday when the restaurant was about half empty. We waited about 15-20 minutes after finishing salad for the two sandwiches and french fries to be served. People at another table who ordered after I finished my salad, received their meals soon after we got our sandwiches. While the quantity and flavor of the sandwiches and french fries were OK, they were all lulewarm at best. We ate them because we had waited so long, but mentioned the temperature to the waitress. She did not apologize, but said there was a large party in another room. That did not explain why the food was not served fresh and hot. We've found the service to be slow on previous visits, but after the luckwarm food as well as indifferent service today, we probably won't be back soon. I was going to contact Tucker's directly but did not find an official website. Pros: Quanity Cons: Service more

kid unfriendly, slow service, okay food 3/9/2008

We only went here because we were read in the brochere from the hotel they were ""KID FRIENDLY"" and had good steaks. We were shocked to find out they had NO highchairs or boosters , nor a item on the menu suitable for a child. Top it off the server said they did not have milk or juice, but could bring the little guy bloodymary mix instead? Besides the incredibly RUDE hostess and ridiculously slow serving staff (our waitress only had 3 tables), the place was overwhelmingly filled with cigarette smoke that there was no such thing as non-smoking. (suggestion to owner -top floor smoking, bottom floor non-smoking). Anyhow, we ordered 3 filets that were pretty average and not really worth the $20 dollars/filet. For $9 I can go the local grocery store and buy the same size bacon wrapped filet without all the hassle. Please revise your advertising as ""kid unfriendly"". Pros: good local watering hole Cons: smoked filled, slow service, not recommended for children more

GREAT STEAKS! 12/9/2007

Best steaks in town! I eat here as often as I can. I expecially like the large fillet mignon, it's not only delicious but a great value, the salad dressing is in a league of its own too . Pros: Delicious eat early Cons: Avoid weekend evenings, they are rightfully busy and service is slower more

STEAKS STEAKS STEAKS 11/5/2007

After reading a few reviews on this site for Tucker's Place, my bf and I decided to check it out. We were not disappointed! We walked in and were able to immediately get service at the bar while waiting for our table. The beer selection was fairly extensive, and the merlot I ordered was rich yet mellow, although my glass was regrettably small. We sat and waited maybe 10 or 15 minutes and were then led to a quiet corner table with perfect ""date"" mood lighting. The atmosphere was rustic, yet modern, and I would have been just as comfortable in a nice dress as I was in my jeans and heels. The room was not too crowded, and the noise level was acceptable for a Saturday night. We each ordered steaks, loaded baked potatoes, and salads (I recommend their lemon pepper house dressing--it's like sweet Italian, and I loved it!). I also got a shrimp scewer with my meal. Our salads were not too small and not too big, with just enough dressing and a lot of bacon. The steaks were incredible for the low prices charged--my top sirloin was at least an inch thick and cooked to perfection. The cut of meat was excellent quality, not stringy at all and not a bit of fat. The potatoes were enormous and covered with bacon, cheese, butter, and scallions. They tasted delicious and were not too hot and not too cold. The shrimp I had were of decent size, seasoned lightly so that I got the flavor of the seasoning as well as the flavor of the shrimp themselves, and they were grilled to a perfect crispness. Not overdone. The entire meal was top notch, and we left with big boxes. We ate the leftovers the next night and had another full meal, almost as good reheated as it was the first time around! All in all, for a porterhouse, a top sirloin, 2 loaded potatoes, salads, rolls, and a shrimp scewer, we walked out having spent $45 on a very nice date. We will definitely go back again, the whole experience was perfect! more

Still the best steakhouse in st louis 8/10/2006

My wife and I have been dinning at St Louis restaurants for 23 years now. Tuckers place has been on the top of our list for almost as many years. It is by far the best steakhouse in town Their prices are VERY reasonable compared to the other top steakhouses but the steaks and other menu item are the best. They have great pizza, burgers and seafood also. Its fun to go out and spend big bucks once in awhile at st Louis other fine restaurants. But hands down Tuckers Place is the restaurant I both visit and recomend to others. They have managed to stay on top in a tough business. Pros: Great food Reasonable prices Cons: No reservations more

time out there 6/17/2006

I was a loyal to Tucker's for years, but the last two visits was really poor . I hate to put it like that, but the last visit was just that - the last visit. We were treated poorly, waited to long for our food (and no there was no rush on the place when we arrived. The manager seems a little dim, he didn't know his job nor did he do anything about our service when I complained to him. A few minutes later I found him downstairs, standing in a doorway, watching T.V. I'll never go back. A mueal that cost $65,$70 should be at least acceptable. Tucker's has had it's day, but even the okay steaks won't save them. I remember when they were great, not the greatest, but great, now they're just there. My best answer if your looking to review, would be do your review elsewhere. Cons: you have to pay for it more

Kid Friendly in Soulard! 12/31/2005

When we visited one of the suburban Tucker's, we found that they nhad no highchairs and received a rather ""chilly"" reception from the hostess as we arrived with a toddler & an infant. This is NOT the case in Soulard! They have highchairs and a much more relaxed atmosphere. Don't miss out on an opportunity for a marvelous steak, great service, and a wonderful time just because you're ""stuck"" with little ones. We've visited this location many times and the kids have always been warmly welcomed. The portions here are HUGE, the food just plain great. and the prices ($23 for a full 16 oz filet mignon down to $12 for a normal restaurant size) are very very good. I've never before seen a 16oz filet nor a 20oz sirloin on a menu. Go. You'll love it! Pros: food, price, service more

Tucker (Soulard) 6/5/2005

My husband and I have eaten at Tuckers several times. The steaks are delicious, and cooked the way we request them. The servers do not do a disappearing act once they bring you your food. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Pros: Food/tase, Food/portion size more

The Best Steaks at any price 5/18/2005

My family dined at Tuckers Place West. What a nice comfortable place! I ordered the 16oz strip ($18.85) while my wife got the 8oz filet ($17.85). These prices included a huge baked potato (REAL BUTTER & SOUR CREAM) and a ok dinner salad. The steaks were cooked perfectly and ate as good or better than any highdollar prime steakhouse that I have dined in. My kids had great thin crust pizza that was far better than all the chain pizzas. Service was pleasent and prompt, but not overboard. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place.++++++++++++++++++++++ Pros: Great Steaks, Nice atmosphere, good drinks Cons: no reservations, only 3 locations more

Worst Service. Ever. 5/16/2005

This restaurant is a disaster. And the wait staff is terrible. A rude hostess insisted that we sit at this tiny table located in a high-traffic area between the two main upstairs dining rooms, even though they were empty. Then, we ordered a bottle of wine. It was uncorked & poured before inspection. In fact, it wasnt even the wine we asked for. Prompting the waitress to shrugs and say, ""It's still red, isn't it?"" We receive our salads from a busboy who notices we weren't being served. 25 minutes later, the waitress arrives with two new salads & our entrees. She didnt even know we had already been served. My steak, ordered medium-well, arrives RAW. It comes back 30 minutes later charred & burnt. My boyfriend has already *finished* his entire meal The manager only offered to comp HALF of ONE steak. Do yourself a favor. Avoid Tucker's. more

awesome 7/20/2004

Tucker's has the best, biggest steak for the price in town. Can not be beat!!! Extremely busy, but well worth the wait!!! The best steak that I have had in years!!! I ate at the Union Rd location, and I really hated it!! I went on a date and she recommended the Soulard site, it was fantastic!!!!! I will go back again and again!!! Pros: huge staek, excellent service, good price Cons: long line, far away parking more

AMAZING 3/12/2004

We went for steaks, and walked away happy!!! The wait was worth it! more

A little better than OK 3/7/2004

They handle the crowds well. But why there are crowds I'm not sure. My experience was similar to adjusting the horizontal adjustment on my TV. No matter how I tried it, I just couldn't seem to make it right. Service was average, atmosphere was stale and smoky, drinks weak, ambiance pleasant, steak prepared exactly as they intended, but not like a steak. Drowned in Teriyake like marinade is not my idea of how to prepare a steak. Send your chefs to a place like St. Elmo's in Indianapolis where flavor and tenderness are never separated. And please, someone tell the employees that ""No problem"" is not an acceptable replacement for ""you are welcome."" Compared to average, I still rate it above, which doesn't say much for the average. Pros: price, ambiance, location Cons: , overall meal, drinks more

GREAT FOOD!! 1/26/2004

Besides having one of the best steaks around, Tucker's Fried Chicken Salad is simply WONDERFUL! I have, also, had their cheeseburgers. They are so big-g-g--g and great tasting, too. You don't ever come away hungry. Pros: Great food, lots of food Cons: Parking, Crowded more
