Unusual, but great place 7/8/2009

I spent 10 nights in New York, visiting various places at the end of a round the World trip, and no-where was I made to feel more welcome. Thanks to Tony, Olga, Tatiania, Jo-Jo and Inga, I will definetely be back Jim Pros: wonderful staff and manager Cons: cash only more

Great decor and service! 2/8/2009

If you want to escape New York City and ""feel"" like you're at a tiki bar on a warm island in the Carribean, I strongly recommend Tropical 128. I went here this passed week-end and I was pleasantly surprised at how different the decor was ... in a good way. It almost felt like I was in a rainforest. :) The place wasn't crowded when we arrived but I'm assuming that's because it was only about 7 pm on a Saturday night. However, it was a great experience. I had the ""Coconut Mania"" drink and it was delicious and the bartender/waitress was very attentive and pleasant. We had a nice time. Oh, for those of you who like to shoot pool, they also have pool tables in the back. :) more

surprising billiards oasis 7/15/2007

Stumbled open this place by accident, it was a hidden gem! Very kitchy, tropical cavern-themed bar (where does one purchase fake boulders?), complete with a waterfall, bright flashing lights everywhere you looked, fish tanks, wooden bridges. Kinda felt like you where in a disneyland attraction with drinks. It was awesome though, probably not for everyone but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. If that isn't enough to entertain you the back room has tons of billiard tables so no wait. They don't have hard alcohol, but make delicious sake cocktails, try the lemon drop- my friend and I have never had anything like it and were raving all night. Staff is very sweet as well. This would be an awesome place for a party. Pros: doesn't take itself too seriously, great ambience Cons: not very crowded if you're out to meet new people more

beer, bubble tea, and a few rounds of pool. 9/7/2006

I was actually completely impressed. I'd read a review on dodgeball that made this place sound like a crappy little hole in the wall that didn't even serve drinks. Well...on top of the fact that I just really really like the decor (think bamboo vines up the walls, a little pond under the entrace bridge, mini waterfall behind the bar- shut up, it was very serene!)- I also liked the sake, the staff, and the service. Oh, and the bubble tea (the Honeydew is always the best, though they also offer beer and wine). Pros: Funky (kitschy) decor, Price, Area Cons: They don't serve cocktails or mixed drinks, just the bottles and glasses of wine/sake. more
