Call the Attorney General. Call Consumer affairs. After they blunder the transmission rebuild and take your money, the sloppy "repair" will fail. They won't do warranty work. They...

Don't Repair it- NIGHTMARE IT. 5/28/2013

Beware of FAKE REVIEWS that these guys post for themselves on several review sites.\r What a nightmare. When my transmission died, they screwed up the repair- badly.\r \r They installed the new parts incorrectly, and declared it fixed. I picked up my car and in a few weeks it was dead again. Thank goodness there was a warranty, right??\r \r Tom didn't admit to the error. Instead he said that the new parts messed up other parts, and it would be done in a week. I waited two weeks then called to check on status. This was when I started getting a gut feeling that I was dealing with unstable people. Simple phone calls regarding status just felt creepy. This dumb dance started where every week Tom gave me an excuse why the work wasn't done as promised. Then he gave me a new promise of when it would be done-you know- for real this time. \r I knew I was being lied to. But what could I do? He already had my money. I didn't have another $2200 bucks, and at this point I worried about him doing somethin more

BEWARE- They will write their own fake reviews.\r What a nightmare. When my transmission died, they screwed up the repair- badly.\r They installed the new parts incorrectly, and declared it fixed. I picked up my car and in a few weeks it was dead again. Thank goodness there was a warranty, right??\r Tom didn't admit to the error. I didn't have another $2200 bucks, and at this point I worried about him doing something retaliatory to my car if I complained too much. \r Every time I called, they acted like they had no idea who I was for the first half of the conversation. Then as soon as I said anything about how long it had been, they suddenly remembered that they had done so many ""favors"" for me. \r Other times my phone calls would go un-returned, but they swore they did call me. Obviously my call history was defective just for their phone numbers.\r After almost two months and still no vehicle, I had to look at legal options that I could NOT afford. \r I talked with Oregon Consumer Affairs, plus some friends and other auto shops. I came across a good lawyer out of pure luck and a cool co-worker.\r An inspection of Tom's work showed that Tri-County installed the parts wrong and ruined them. The car needed a whole new transmission rebuild. My lawyer had to threaten to sue for everything under the sun to get Tom to agree to pay for the repair and warranty from a capable mechanic. \r The best part is that Tom completely freaked out on me and my husband, as if we somehow hurt him. I don't even understand that. I paid him a real $2200 bucks. I didn't give him fake money. Or money that disappeared after a couple weeks. \r But here he was screaming at us, like he was somehow the one getting screwed. I just stood there baffled while he worked himself into a rage. I have no idea what kind of mental gymnastics this anger-management drop-out did to convince himself that a paying customer deserved his abuse and lies... (or that a paying customer did not not deserve the promised repair.)\r When your transmission dies, you expect it to be expensive and inconvenient. You don't expect months of drama and to be at the mercy of the Jerry Springer cut list.\r Stay away. RUN away from this ""shop"". At best they are extremely unhealthy. At worst, the place is a scam. more

Tom says you have a 12 month or 12000 mile warranty. Try to get them to warranty work. It is almost impossible. The place is a scam. more

in november of 2011 i took my 96 explorer in to have the transmission rebuilt .in feb of 2012 the overdrive solinoid quit working,i took it in for warrentee work and had a shift kit installed at the same time,i was charged $120 for a service special,$70 for a shift kit and $57 for misc repairs.i noticed a mild vibration when accellerating that i attributed to something else. early this fall it felt like something was binding up when i tried to take off,i thought might be a brake caliper but could find nothing wrong,as it got more frequent and harsher i thought it was the rearend. i took it to tri county and took a service man for a short ride and it didnt do what it had been doing .we agreed that it was probably the rearend and i should make an apointment to have it checked.i drove it home and transmission warning light came on and reverse went out.the warranty on the rebuild was for 12mos or 12,000 miles i am over the mileage by a bit, but under on time.i lost my reciept and tom cant find my service records on his computer.if i could prove i was under on mileage tom said he would honor the warrantee otherwise he would work with me.i feel a rebuilt transmission ought to be good for more than 15000 miles so i am not comfortable with doing any further business with these people.. more

Tricounty Transmission has serviced my cars for years and I have appreciated their excellent service. I know they went through a challenging time when the owner gave his son the chance to run the business and apparently, this did not go well. The owner has once again taken the helm and I took my car in recently, received a free estimate, excellent customer service, and a reasonable quote for repairs. Thank you to the owners of Tricounty for giving me dependable service for many years. more

The guys at Tri county are excellent! 2/20/2012

The guys at Tri county are excellent! From the first time I spoke with Robert it was 5 days until we both had the time for them to take my Plymouth Voyager in. For major transmission work. Robert knew right away what the issue was and I felt he was very honest about what it was going to take to fix it. He was more than fair and understanding of my situation. When you are a Mom w/ 4 kiddos and work full time you need your vehicle! He had my van in and out in 24 hours (with a free rental truck). I didn't have to rearrange my plans or miss any work. This shop is quick, honest and easy to work with. I recommend Tri County Transmission to anyone who needs good work done in a timely manner!! Thanks Tri County more

Was referred to this business by a 1/27/2012

Was referred to this business by a friend. I'm am EXTREMELY SORRY I didn't pass them up and go to my other option. Like penguinluff (immediately below), this was about as bad a car repair experience as I have ever had. My experience was simply horrible. The communication abilities of the staff don't exist, and I had to take the vehicle back 3 times to get the work done and this episode stretched over 4 weeks. Not only that, but after the ordeal followed through to it's [supposed] conclusion, guess what? the transmission STILL LEAKED! So, as I write, I can't honestly say 'mission complete'. After $1400 I still have at least one of the problems for which I took the car in initially. Timely: No (they had my car over a week before an initial diagnosis) Communicates issue/problems with customer: No. (in fact, with only 1 exception, I had to call them to check on the status of the work - this was easily 4 or 5 times) Gets issue resolved first attempt: No. On / Under Estimate: Maybe - but it is so damn difficult to get them to give you a clear understanding of the problem and options to repair, it is almost impossible to know if you're getting screwed or not. Also, be aware that people from his staff likely lurk here and post bogus 5 star reviews of themselves. Tom Weedman was the legal owner of the shop until the beginning of this year. One of his sons and another guy have assumed control/ownership (Robert and Mason). You can find reviews by Tom Weedman of his own shop! How disingenuous. Bottom line: **** STAY AWAY**** Update 4/19/2012: I will add some further information regarding the review I posted earlier. A couple points warrant mention here: 1). I contacted BBB re: these guys, and not to my surprise, they have some outstanding issues logged by customers -- apparently yet to be resolved. I too, filed one. 2). I pulled the transmission pan (on the used transmission) they installed into my vehicle, and found it was the source of the leak. The pan was badly dimpled around the bolt holes -- thereby creating even greater gaps in the mating surfaces between transmission pan and bottom of transmission. Secondly, they used red RTV to seal the cardboard-type gasket, but, in places it never set properly. So, I wiped off a bunch of gooey (undried) gasket sealant that was at least part of the problem. Also, the transmission was never filled to capacity or had leaked so much, that it was nearly impossible to gauge exactly how much was initially in before the problem manifested itself. 3). Finally, when I initially took my vehicle in they looked at it at least a few times and even after the actual transmission replacement they consistently overlooked/forgot to mention/etc that I had a broken CV axle boot and it had likely incurred damage to the axle itself. I replaced the axle myself. At the very least, you'd think that they would offer a 'Service Recommendation' as most professional shops often do. Is this the work of experienced mechanics? Hell no. Stay away from these clowns. more

TERRIBLE Cust. Service! Does not honor warranty! 9/1/2011

On June 2, 2011 my 80 year old grandparents went into this establishment and contracted with them to have their transmission on their 1999 Mercury Sable rebuilt. With that service they acquired a two year unlimited warranty. Shortly thereafter, probably mid-June, they took their car back due to a transmission leak. They were told at the time that there was, in fact, no leak. This was fallacious, and they knew that they were being lied to as they had checked the fluid levels prior to taking the vehicle in and the levels were low. They were told that they were actually full and that the leak was generating from the engine. They took their car in a second time in July, as the vehicle was still leaking. They were informed at the time that it was the power steering fluid, and that the shop had 'filled that up' for them, when in fact, with my grandparents watching the entire affair, they had done no such thing. The third time they took their car in was Monday, August 29, 2011. The leak had become drastically worse at this point, and the shop finally conceded that there was a transmission leak, and that their other diagnoses had been incorrect. The car, at this point, was virtually unusable due to the fact that the leak had worsened over the months that the shop had refused to believe that it was a transmission leak. They told my grandparents that the earliest time that they would be able to take a look at it would be Tuesday, September 6th. August 31st, 2011, my grandfather called back to inform them that Tuesday would be too late. The car was badly hemorrhaging fluids and their garage floor was covered, even when the car was not in use. The owner of the shop, Tom Weedman, told my grandfather that was his problem until Tuesday.September 1st my husband and I went into the shop to speak with someone about the poor customer service that my grandparents had received. During the conversation with Mr. Weedman he told me to shut up, and told me several lies including that my grandparents had only been in once and that he agreed that there was a leak, but that it wasn't fixable at the time, and that he had been cordial with my grandfather over the phone. (Which he had not been, I heard the entire conversation.) Mr. Weedman is a generally condescending, age-biased individual. More than once he said to me that my opinion did not matter due to the fact that he was 'at least twice' my age, and that the fact that he has 'done quite well' for himself in his business made him superior to me. Last time I checked, age and money don't make a person superior. He also implied that I was not possessed of full mental faculties. He made me very uncomfortable with his aggressive manner and unnecessary invasion of my personal space more

these mechanics are real people and I love them 4/30/2011

Tri County did a great job on my transmission so I started using them for all my car's maintenance too. I wish I had been going to them all along because now I realize how much I was being overcharged at my old garage. I also like how at Tri County, Robert explains everything to me about what is going on with my car. He is patient with my million questions and treats me like a human instead of a ""dumb woman"" (which is how they treated me at my last place). Thanks Tri County!! more

Awesome service, honest family business. 4/30/2011

I had been taking my car to a garage near where I live and I was paying over $150 every time I went there, because I didn't know anything about cars and didn't realize I was being cheated by them. Even for something routine like an oil change, this garage was finding other phantom things to charge me for. Then I had a transmission problem and took my car to Tri County Transmissions. They did a great job, did free follow ups for my transmission, and I liked them so I started using them for my regular maintenance too. Now it has been two years and I'm soooo glad I switched over to them. I have saved thousands of dollars on maintenance!! Oil change? $40 instead of $150!! I am sorry I used that other cheating-garage for so long. more

Thanks guys! Great job!! 5 Star, rate box not working!! 4/27/2011

THEY DO AMAZING WORK!!! 3/28/2011

The clutch in my 95 Jetta was toasted. They came with a flatbed to my house and picked my car up. They had it done the same day at a VERY reasonable price and i've had no issues since i got it back. The people that work there were very friendly as well... I'd recommend this shop to anybody that is having issues with their trans or clutch! more
