Editorial review from Citysearch 10/18/2013

Avoid this place! My boyfriend is looking for a new stylist and I decided to send some emails to look for a new place since he wouldn't have time during his workday. I sent an email to the address on the website and was really surprised to receive one line responses, without a greeting--definitely not customer service oriented. After several back and forth emails, there was no response for three hours. I called the salon to see if I could get more information and had a nice exchange with the receptionist, but ultimately decided not to book. The earlier email exchange had left a bad taste in my mouth. \r \r An hour or so after that, I received another short, brusque email, and decided rather than not responding, I would let them know that we had decided to book elsewhere. At the end of the email, I said that they might want to reconsider their email etiquette, as it came off as brusque and dismissive. I mentioned that this was friendly advice--as it indeed was, coming from someone else in the customer service industry. Everyone has their bad or busy days, and I thought that I'd be helpful by letting them know. In response, I received this message, ""A guy that needs his girlfriend to sort his own appointment & style advise is indeed a man that need help. Good luck.""\r \r I immediately called the salon and asked the receptionist who answers their emails. She told me that it's their owner, Russell! Well, Russell, you clearly need a lesson in both common sense and customer service. As I said in my email response, ""A salon that responds to friendly advice with rudeness will soon have no clients. Very poor business sense indeed."" A salon owner is supposed to set the tone for the entire staff--if this is the way Russell thinks he should run a business, I feel bad for both their clients and their staff. I'm sure some of their stylists are very good, but who wants to be told off by the owner before you even get in the door? \r \r Update: The receptionist must have passed on my promise to post a review to Russell, because he sent me yet another email saying, ""For your Yelp review, its Russell with two 'L's."" Stay away from this place--their owner is clearly unbalanced. more

SAVE YOUR MONEY! THEY STEAL FROM YOU! 12/24/2011

This was my first and LAST time in this horrible salon where the employees to the people who cut your hair were cold and rude and just overall terrible during the experience.\r \r They try and make you feel all high end with wine and beer and it is such a JOKE. They would need to give me drugs to come back into that ""salon"" if you can all it that. I felt like they just wanted my money and on to the next person, when I wasn't even happy with my haircut.\r \r The co owner took my credit card and was on the phone made me sign the HORRIFIC RIP OFF of a price and then didn't even say thank you have a nice day and kept talking on the phone. Can you say RUUUUUDE! I feel like the good posts have to be from the owners pretending to be customers or the people who cut hair there had to post themselves to try and get more business because I am shocked this place is still in business with the prices and service, especially in this economy....\r \r Go to a normal place where the prices are reasonable and they actually care about your business. When you pay $95 for a haircut and feel rushed. NOT COOL! more

Great cut, incredible service and awesome decor 12/7/2010

Love this place! My bangs were in desperate need of a trim, and I decided to try it because it was convenient and had received positive online reviews. Not only do they trim bangs for free (a service that most salons only extend to existing clients), but the stylist I saw (Kat) took her time to blend and shape the bit I was growing out and still didn't charge me (she even told me not to tip her)! more

KATE IS THE BEST 8/12/2010

She does a great job cutting my hair as I ask her to, and also giving advice if I'm considering making a dramatic change (bangs or changing the length). She has great taste and skills and I recommend her 100x. more

Great Stylist at Tommy Guns! 3/7/2010

I've been going to Lisa and will never stray! She cuts and colors like no other!! She does chic and fashionable cuts that are easy to style. (I hate it when I get my hair cut and can't get it to look like that again) Go to Lisa! You won't be disappointed...... Pros: Fabulous haircuts and color more

Loud, pretentious salon with Great Clips standards of quality. 2/27/2009

Ugh when did hair salons become the Starbucks of the LES? I can only hope the high rent district coupled with an economy in crisis will be the near death of the majority of these cookie cutter crapholes junking up the area. Anyway, don't waste your time or money on this place. The service is sup par, the staff have bad attitudes and don't know what they're doing. They probably couldn't hear what I was trying to tell them I wanted above the bad mixed cd. I came out with terrible choppy layers, and way too many of them. You're better off sticking to Bumble's 'Model U' freebies. more

I am so hapy Carly works here 2/5/2009

I've been following Carly around New York, because she gives, by FAR the best haircuts. I was really excited to find out she was working at Tommy Guns, because this place is just so cool. It's easy to get to from the subway, there's lots to do if I want to go out after. TG has such a cool vibe-it's decorated with old school barbering chairs, an old time yet hip feel and it has a spiral staircase going down to the lower level.\r \r I'm excited because she is going to be doing cutting AND coloring there. AND ITS CHEAPER THAN WHAT SHE HAS BEEN CHARGING! WOO! Pros: It's awesome. Cons: Carly is only working saturdays for now.. more
