Great atmosphere, awesome classes and facility 7/10/2008

I was a member of the club almost 8 years ago before we moved, I was so excited to rejoin when we came back to San Diego! Apparently there was a remodel a few years ago and it definitely looks nicer than I remember it, and has a cafe that overlooks the pool with smoothies, healthy meals, and nutritional supplements. The equipment has GREATLY improved since I was last there, they now have gravity machines and a cute Pilates area for private sessions in addition to group class setting for Pilates and Gravity. The Spin classes are motivating interactive and topnotch The TV's attached to the cardio equipment are modern flat screen which add to the upscale ambiance, and you constantly see staff cleaning, my only concern is that while I see the Personal training staff working out with clients I never see them taking the time to help others who may need a little assistance or instructional advantage, it seems they like to congregate at the desk and if alone keep to themselves. While it doesn't take away from my experience it may for others.\r The only thing that is a total bummer for me was the lack of social interaction the Sporting Club was NOTORIOUS for when we were there, constant parties, events and even a few great wine trips and days @ the races. It appear those days are gone and the event I have gone to so far definitely lacks that zing. I am hoping that they re-claim their social technique and can recapture the glory days of interaction with other members but my few complaints are definitely over shadowed by the atmosphere, upscale amenities (Executive Locker rooms and SPA) and the access to their equally awesome and more social La Jolla club in the Village, it definitely is worth the money and hopefully the wait! Pros: Equipment, cardio theatre, Pilates-Spin-Gravity Cons: no social aspects as anticipated more

good but not the best 3/22/2008

i wrote a review earlier under the name 515. i want to say more about the gyms in s.d. because i know how important it is to me when i travel to a new city. as i said before , world gym in pacific beach is by far the best gym in s.d. for serious weight lifters. they have machines by cybex, icarian, hammer strength, nautilus and polaris. they have a wood stick for twisting and stretching. they have 2 neck machines. one by hammer strength and one by nautilus. they have 5 seated leg press machines including the one by cybex which is my favorite. they have at least 4 squat racks. they have 3 hamstring machines. they open at 4am mon.-fri. and 5am sat. and sun. they have all of the usual cardio machines. they are about 3 miles from the ocean so they have no air con. it can get warm in july and aug. the sporting club has new machines by life fitness. most of these machines are not designed well and do not get into the muscle groups as well as machines by the aforementioned companies. the sporting club also has some machines by hammer strength which is a very good line. the sporting club has all hammer strength benches for their chest exercises. flat, incline and decline. these machines are as good as any ever made. the sporting club has an excellent selection of all the usual cardio machines. they also have a 25m swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court, sauna, steam and many classes such as yoga and pilates. the 24 hr. fitness gyms around s.d. are also good. they have mostly cybex and hammer strength machines. the 24 hr. on balboa ave. is very good as well as the one in pacific beach. their locations in la jolla and UTC are very small. for serious weight lifting the 24 hr. gyms are better than the sporting club. but again world gym is the best for serious weight lifting. Pros: clean Cons: weight machines are new but not top quality more

Best and Most efficent Remodel 5/28/2007

Once again it seems as if the only way to get a Club One club updated is to sell out!... since being sold 2 years ago this club has soared to levels it had only reached pre-Club One days. With a million dollar remodel and the amazing spa this place is THE place to work-out, relax and network. If you are looking for the place to see and be seen this is it. On the average you can find the random local celebrity, sports authority, or just once or twice a year filming for a show or movie. The machines are top of line and are updated regularly, I hear that's b/c they are a show room floor for Life Fitness. The Cafe is great and well deserved after a rough workout. or have it delivered to you at the pool while you relax after a massage. Pros: Good-looking Professionals Cons: parking more

beautiful club, new equipment, fabulous massage therapists, estheticians, and personal trainers 4/14/2007

This club was just remodeled so not only is the equipment brand new but it is also a really beautiful place to work out or just treat yourself to a spa day close to home. The staff tend to remember you and greet you like a friend they also really know their stuff and are helpful with opinions and questions. Massages here are some of the best in San Diego - you can get everything from really deep work to light and fluffy. The facials are great too- lots of customization to your skin type as well as suggestions on products.\r Personal Trainers here also will work you hard and are really motivational! more
