It's old school seafood and service. The bar is beautiful and will make you feel as if you've stepped onto the set of Mad Men. more

Not bad 3/7/2011

I went to eat here for a dinner because my boyfriend and I had been super curious about the place. He's not a seafood lover, but he managed to find himself a good meal, which was a steak. more

Never again 5/11/2010

My children took me there for mother's day dinner. To start, no bottled water, only tap water. We ask for wine, and never arrived. I noticed that when people where seated, they were offered bread and something else, that we were not offered. To top it off, when we asked for coffee and sugar, they were out of sugar. But the bill was right out with the cup of coffee, which I took as Please pay and go, No more service for you. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. Pros: nice chairs Cons: worst service. more

OK food ruined by horrible service 4/18/2010

We were there around a little over week ago for a friend's farewell dinner because we read and heard good things about this place. The waiter recommended a yellowfin tuma dish to us and said that this dish is a fav at the place and that it came with a seaweed salad as a side. Around 30 minutes later, dinner was served but the salad was not on the plate with the tuna. We thought the side might come on a separate plate. Till the end of that night, it never appeared. We asked him where the salad was and that we had been waiting for it. To our surprise, he said that it was just a small side salad and that we would not count on that to get full. Come on, we did not get to Oceanaire just to get full. Even if we paid $40 dollars for that dish and no matter how small the salad is supposed to be, it was not there. Then he came up with another excuse that the kitchen must have run out of it the time we ordered. Isn't it your duty to let the customer know? Throughout the whole process, he did not even ask if we need anything for substitution. Therefore, we weren't even surprised when he brought the check a little after--full price and no discount offered. We spoke with the manager about the whole thing. His first reaction was that he was surprised that the kitchen would even have run out things like seaweed salad. Then he asked if the waiter had offered anything for substitution. When told no, he said sorry and did not offer anything to make up for that. We understand that people make mistakes. We understand, too, that there could be many ""shoulds"" we could have done that night. But we expect a highly-rated middle-high-end seafood place like Oceanaire would know how to respond to their mistakes. Apparently, we were wrong. Pros: Food Cons: Service more

All Done With Smoke and Mirrors 3/31/2010

We joined friends of ours here lately, to celebrate a Birthday dinner. I have to admit that the decor is enticing, the view of Westheimer at sunset is sublime, and the formally dressed waiters are impressive. However, I was not thrilled to ordere what was supposed to be ""Carolina whole stuffed flounder"" at $30, only to receive a plate with about 3 oz of fish with a tablespoon of dressing hiding underneath it. Come on guys! Flounder sells for $3.19 per pound right by me out here in Seabrook, across from the Kemah bridge. I immediately had them take the plate back, and ordered the steak filet with lobster tail. It was a much better option, which I learned the hard way. Knowing wha to order here, can save you some grief. However, overall, the portions are small compared to the prices. Good wine selection, and great baked Alaska for dessert, helped make up for the disappointments with the main courses. They definitely need a ""reality check"" with the price vs. portion sizes. ......Glad we live out by Kemah, where seafood is plentiful, delicious and cheap. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: small portions, high prices more

Worst seafood place ever !!!!! 9/20/2009

I went for dinner with my wife for her birthday let me just say that this place is not the best in the city as it was rated....bad experience and it doesn't worth a visit at all.... more

Roller Coaster Ride 9/12/2009

I've read so many up and down, ""roller-coaster"" reviews of this place, I think everyone has scared me away from trying it. Why is it so hard to find good, fresh, reasonable priced seafood in a city that is so close to the Gulf?! Plus, I don't know if i need my fish to fly first class to Houston, requiring me to pay a premium price for a plate of fish, when the best fish from the Gulf is less than 50 miles away from Houston. more

Ridiculously bad 8/26/2009

Went with a group of six. Drinks/wine were blatantly overpiced by at least 30%. Service was passable but our orders were all wrong. Appetizers were bland. Everyone's order had something wrong. I think they have to try to be that bad. Food was okay but could have gotten better almost anywhere for this price. Not a good value or worth ever visiting again. And the chairs were uncomfortable. All in all, one of my worst experience anywhere, ever. Pros: none that I could tell Cons: Bad Service, mediocre food, uncomfortable seating more

excellent 8/24/2009

everything we ordered was simply delicious. from the bread to dessert, everything was really exceptional. service matched the food. alcohol is overpriced though. will be back. Pros: food, service Cons: decor, overpriced drinks more

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT EVENING 6/28/2009

We made a New Year's resolution - this year - to have dinner once a month with friends of over 20 years. We have to go to a ""new"" restaurant, which we have not been to before. I had been to the one in Dallas...thoroughly enjoyed, so this was our June choice. I made reservations through ""opentable"" - first time I had used this service and I will use, going forward, any time possible. The service was some of the best ever...anywhere. Our waitress was so attentive, but not ""overbearing""...her suggestions were perfect. The wine and food were FABULOUS. We will be back! Oh, yea - the ""left overs"" are still great! Pros: Service was fabulous-food was delicious & perfectly prepared Cons: Portions are huge - not sure this is a con more

Pros: incredible food and service HIGHLY RECOMMEND !! more

nothing special 1/24/2009

My friend and I went there last weekend, the food was ok, our waiter was really nice but it felt like we were in an olive garden the way the seats were set up. The food is a little pricey for what it is. I think there are better seafood places than this one Pros: great waiters Cons: reminds me of olive garden more

Very good food but Bad drinks 10/15/2008

Went there for a company dinner and was really pleased. This is a first class restaraunt all the way. The service was excellent, the food was excellent, however the drinks were not good (strong, but not good). If you want to enjoy excellent food and not drink - go, if you want to get drunk but not taste the expensive food - go; if you want to do both - try somewhere else. Pros: Fabulous Cons: Drinks so strong they ruin the good food more

AMAZING!!!!!! 10/11/2008

so impressed, I will be back for more and more. I am so happy that this place is open! Great seafood! Great Service!!!! more

Best Seafood Restaurant Ever!!! 9/26/2008

Oceanaire was incredible. I took a friend there for her birthday - they pre-printed ""Happy Birthday"" with her name on the menus and had a b-day card on the table signed by all the staff. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing. The manager, Jason, stopped by often to make sure everything went well - nice touch. The fish was literally the freshest and tastiest we have ever had. We ordered the Halibut Oscar and the Mahi-Mahi - both were amazing. Pros: Outstanding service, fantastic food, great atmosphere Cons: So many good choices on the menu it was hard to choose! more

Wonderful Seafood & Experience 8/25/2008

Oceanaire is by far the best seafood restaurant in the city--if not anywhere. What always strikes me is the quality of the fish. Once you have had really fresh fish, you know it--and Oceanaire has it. The entrees aren't covered in a overpowering, heavy sauce that drowns out the flavor of the fish. They don't need to because their fish isn't frozen or old like so many other so called seafood restaurants. This restaurant celebrates the fresh seafood flavors and compliments it with interesting preparations and combinations. I have dined their several times, and I have never been let down. I even had a chance to meet the chef (Trevor). He brought an appetizer out to my family and made us feel very welcome. In addition to the great food, the restaurant has an impressive wine list. There are many different wines to choose from. When I have struggled with making a decision, the servers have always been helpful and right on in selecting a wine that fits what I have described. Pros: The food is amazing! Cons: The prices are high, but it's well worth it. more

Major disappointment 8/18/2008

This is an update to my initial review that follows. After our disastrous first visit I posted here and on another site as well as dropping a note to the corporate office. A couple of days later I got an email from the local manager offering to make up for our disappointment. We took him up on it and in a nutshell, they did way better than just make up. My initial review rating was 1 star and that was generous. I'm going with 5 stars for our last visit, so I guess I have to go for the average(3) to be fair. Which Oceanaire will show up on your visit is an open question, but there is absolutely no doubt that they are capable of great things when they want to go to the effort. Specifically, I would recommend Chef White's (Trevor) sliders; split sauteed scallops stuffed with a whisper thin slice of peach and high end prosciutto. Also, I wouldn't hesitate to ask for Peter to take care of us again, exemplary job. Pros: Location, maybe? Cons: Poor quality experience for the time and money invested more

Wonderful Place to Celebrate a Birthday 7/31/2008

I made a reservation here for my boyfriend's birthday, mainly because of its proximity to his work and the fact that we hadn't tried it yet. Boy, did they knock our socks off with the service (not the mention the food)! Not only did we get a booth as I'd specified in my online reservation, special menus with ""Happy Birthday"" printed at the top and a birthday card signed by the waitstaff were waiting for us at the table. I had dropped in earlier to see about having dessert brought out at the end (I didn't know they offered a complimentary birthday dessert), and appreciated how the host ""played along"" when I acted like I hadn't seen him before. My boyfriend especially liked the sourdough bread, which came out steaming hot, soft and chewy on the inside with a perfectly crispy crust. Everything that came out was super fresh, from the crudites plate and oysters, to my delicious plate of seared jumbo scallops and the baby squash. All the dishes really let the freshness of the ingredients speak for themselves, and I liked how everything was simply prepared, with nothing drowned in any sauces. We stuffed ourselves silly, but then out came the glorious baked alaska which was flambed right at the table for us by our waiter. It smelled of smores as the flames caramelized the meringue topping. It was the perfect end to a perfect meal. I was more than happy to pay for such a wonderful experience, and honestly could not have asked for better service. Pros: made my boyfriend feel special on his birthday, fresh food, meticulous attention to detail, attentive service Cons: absolutely none more

Real classy... 7/17/2008

Lovely setting, terrific food, professional, unobtrusive but friendly service. Arrived here jetlagged and somewhat homesick, looking for a table for one at the end of a long stagger round the Galleria. Solitary dining can be a bleak experience, but The Oceanaire made me feel right at home and put me on my feet again. The best experience I had in a week in Houston. Pros: Food, cocktails, wine, ambience, locale, service more
