Mecca's Services - Amazing! 3/4/2012

I have never been one to receive spa services regularly, but since finding Mecca I am simply hooked! I try to make it each month for a facial and/or massage. For facials and waxing I see Christine, my skin has never been better! I also highly recommend her because of how happy I am with her brow shaping. I have been to both Sarah and Carrie for massage and was one hundred percent satisfied with both ladies. A great massage should be relaxing but also thorough in working out sore muscles, and each time I have received just that. From the moment you walk in to Mecca you will be immediately pampered and relaxed in the beautiful spa atmosphere. I also love to take advantage of the steam room when I'm done with my massage. After moving to Austin a year ago, I have found my spa home and will not be going anywhere else! more

Monthly Maintenance 1/27/2012

Before going to Mecca regularly, I hadn't had the privilege of experiencing something that should be a part of your life regime.\r \r Mecca is beautiful, clean, and luxurious. The staff is friendly and helpful and very good at what they do. I had a Monthly Massage with Alexis. His spiritual energy and attention to detail prove what kind of place Mecca is.\r \r \r I have not used the gym part of Mecca as of yet but I highly recommend the Spa for anything from the steam room or facial to the decadent Monthly ritual, and everything in between.\r \r I know multiple people that go to Mecca and I have yet to hear a sour story. \r Run, Don't Walk!!!!\r more

Total Rip Off : Not a "" real gym"" 9/21/2009

I visited this gym for the first time in September. The front desk staff acted like they were guarding a valuable exclusive, club. I decided to check it out: the equipment was the same at the Bally's gym in uptown Dallas. I didn't see the point of paying a hefty fee to work out for a couple of weeks while visiting Austin. The Spa was average compared to Equinox. Save your money, work out at Pure Fitness across the street, and then go for a nice jog at the Town Lake trails. Pros: If you like Paying too much $$ for a workout Cons: very pretentious and unprofessional more

awesome downdown gym and spa 7/2/2009

The atmosphere is so calming. As soon as you walk off the elevator, you feel you have arrived in a very special space. Elegant and spacious with a friendly front desk staff, and a wonderful little cafe with wine, salads and other goodies. It feels as if you are up in a glass tree house. The gym equipment is high end and brand new, and spaced out wonderfully with plenty of room to work out. Great trainers if you want to go the personal trainer route. I love the spacious dressing areas with fluffy white towels, eucalyptus steam room, roomy showers and lockers. The spa is a zen experience, soothing, cool, inviting and calm. And the spa staff are second to none! You must try Mecca. Come in to work out, have a massage, then finish off with a nice cocktail in the lounge...after plenty of water of course! Pros: great gym, excellent staff, top notch spa Cons: none...except there are not more locations more

A cynical excuse for a ""wellness"" center. ................................ Not recommended. more

Terrible customer service 4/3/2009

this place is all hype. can't play in the big leagues. has a difficult time walking the line between sophistication and approachability. expensive for the level of customer service. have had much better experience and service at other similar style gyms and spas. having good management is about creating solutions, not walking away.... I regret signing up and would not encourage anyone to make the same mistake. Pros: water with slice of lemon..... Cons: management lacks ability to create returning customers more

RIP OFF mani/pedi - ridiculous!!!! 1/15/2009

I went to Mecca yesterday for the first time for a mani/pedi. After paying $115 for these services, I have to say that it was a complete WASTE of money. While the staff was polite, the service lacks big time. There was abosolutely NOTHING special about their services, it was the most basic manicure and pedicure that I have ever received. I get a manicuare and pedicure every week and this place is NOTHING special. I have received much better pedicures from the basic $30 places. I will never go back and I will say go somewhere, anywhere else and you will get a better manicure and pedicure. more

Thought I Had Died and Gone To Heaven 10/22/2008

Ok, so the first massage I ever had was at Mecca. I've had many since my first and nothing and I mean NOTHING compares! The staff is courteous and professional and the atmosphere is extra special. I have purchased many gift certificates for friends and family and no one has been disappointed. Truly upscale and a warm and comforting atmosphere. I highly recommend! more

Terrific Massage 9/18/2008

I've never been to Mecca but came at referral of a friend. I had a massage with Karen that frankly was the best I've ever experienced. I highly recommend her to anyone with specific problems as well as needing a great overall massage. The spa was very nice as were all of the staff. Pros: Luxury spa with friendly staff Cons: 50 minute massage a bit over priced more

expensive, but worth it 9/15/2008

I can't believe mecca received 1 star in some reviews. I've been going to the spa for years and have had many wonderful massages, specifically by stephanie and stacy. I've had a facial that was nice as well (I only wish it had included a shoulder massage like other facials often do). The facilities are relaxing, clean, lovely, a little oasis in town. And I have always found the staff to be very nice. Only down side - very expensive! But very lovely for a splurge. Pros: lovely massages from the female therapists Cons: expensive more

uncaring customer service & horrible massage 8/9/2008

My husband and I went to Mecca a couple years ago for massages as a valentine's day treat. I love massages and get them regularly, but my husband had never had a professional massage before then, so I was really happy to finally convince him to go in for one. I received a really relaxing massage, but my husband left in extreme pain all along his spine. He ached for weeks afterward. When I contacted Mecca about it, they basically said, ""eh, go to see a doctor"" and didn't take any responsibility. This was two years ago, and it was such an awful experience for my husband that he won't go anywhere else to try a massage again because the last one hurt so much. I've been furious at Mecca ever since and tell everyone how awful they were - partly because of his bad masseuse, and partly because of their uncaring response when I contacted them (politely) about it. more

crappy spa service/ripped off 3/13/2008

paid for a brazilian wax job. expected COMPLETE removal. went home to find tuffs and clumps left. i'm not insanely, crazily, ethnically hirsute so i have no idea why i was charged for such a crappy and incomplete service. even if i was that hirsute, i would have paid extra for the service. next time, i would rather go to a cheap asain place than to go back to this pseudo-spa wanna be place. if the asians talk about me behind my back, who cares, i won't understand them anyway.\r \r the funny thing is, the receptionist at Mecca was friendly and cordial, so i was excited to experience services from a spa with convenient extended hours. too bad she wasn't the aesthetician. the aesthetician i had didn't want to be there or didn't care about her job. \r \r i will never go back to them and i will let everyone i know know how much this place is a rip off. more

Kind of girly 12/20/2007

I recently moved to Austin and have been trying to find a new gym, this place was recommended by a woman friend. Very self consciously girly, limited free weights and very few weight machines. You get the feeling the free weights are very feng shui! The ""spa"" is kind of a back room done up in earth tones. It looks like they wanted to do a cool women's spa but couldn't afford the space and then ran out of money so they had to let in some guys. Nothing really wrong with it, if you're the kind of guy who digs facials, this one's for you, bud.. more

Where a facialist gets a facial! 11/8/2007

I'm an esthetician and was on the lookout for someone to trust with my skin....decided to try out the highly recommended Mecca. My facial at Mecca was incredible! Sarah was my esthetician and left my skin feeling like something I never new it could after years of lifegaurding. She is very knowledgable and definitely the best facial I've had in the city. It has been a few weeks and my skin STILL feels great- I'm hooked and I'm picky! Go to Sarah at Mecca! Your brown spots will thank you! Pros: Knowledgable esthetician, great products, service more

Horrid and insulting 8/23/2007

Horrible spa treatment. I went there for a birthday facial. I signed up for an x-tra 30 minutes but only got 15. While the aesthetician was giving me my facial she poked her finger with the needle she was using to extract blackheads and asked me if I was HIV positive. Very unprofessional. I'll give her that she had a right to gently broach the subject but, ""oh my god i just poked myself with the needle I was using, you aren't HIV positive"" is hardly professional. I will never go back. Much better spas in Austin for sure. Pros: non Cons: unprofessional more

Amazing Therapists! A place to leave your worries behind!! 5/3/2007

When my friend got a gift certificate for me to Mecca gym and spa, I have to admit I was very weary. I used to work at a spa in Houston and so I was what you would consider the ""know-it-all-client."" I knew once I got to Mecca, I would criticize every aspect of the spa from the initial welcome to the time of the checkout. When I first looked at the brochure, I was a little bit surprised at the prices of the treatments, but I?m not one to turn down a free day at the spa and so I went! Upon going to Mecca, my first impression was, wow this elevator smells really great (later identified as the scent from the eucalyptus steam room). When I entered the spa/gym, I was greeted by welcoming smiles at the front desk. I checked in and they promptly gave me some robe and slippers to go into the locker room to change/shower/steam. Although I initially thought the prices were a bit high, my massage was ABSOLUTELY fantastic and worth every penny. The therapist really knew what she was doing and seemed to be in tune with all my problematic areas. As I came out of my massage, my brain was mush and so it was nice to be given a nice warm towel to slowly wake me back up to reality. Needless to say, I have been back several times again and each time I go back, I have to make the impossible choice of deciding which treatments I want. My one complaint is that, I wish the locker rooms were connected to the spa so that you don't have to expose yourself to others not getting spa treatments. On that same note, I can easily overlook that factor because the services are too good to deny because of that one issue. My only other semi-complaint would be that, Mecca doesn't offer a room where you can take a nap right after your massage (perhaps in the future??) Not that this is a part of the spa services, but Mecca has really great retail items that I have yet to find in other stores. If anything else, finding a place that offers exclusive products is always a good thing! Pros: talented staff, ambience, easy parking, customer service Cons: locker room isn't connected directly to spa more

Excellent customer service, most talented therapists in Austin 4/30/2007

I used to be a consistent client at another popular day spa in Austin, but one day my coworkers were raving about Mecca, so I decided to give it a shot. The treatment I picked was the massage of month, which was a grapefruit sugar scrub, followed by a 50 minute massage using the same flavor. I have never felt so pampered. The massage therapist I was with was excellent, and the cocktail at the end was the icing on the cake. Having had recent knee surgeries the previous year I am always hesitant about switching over to a new therapist, but she was very cautious about my delicate areas, but also knew exactly where to dig in. They switch up the monthy flavors so I have made it a habit to come in once a month for them. The facility is fresh and clean, and A LOT more relaxed than some other spas in Austin. It resembles the spa at the Bellagio, in Vegas, which I love, and it seemed to capture the friendly atmosphere of it as well. They definantly have me hooked. I've have given my friends gift certificates and got them hooked as well. Massages at Mecca are a healthy and satisfying addiction! Pros: Experienced therapists, clean and friendly atmosphere Cons: It needs to be bigger more

Worst Customer Service - Even to Continuing Customers 2/3/2007

I had been going to Mecca for over three years, and although the customer service was never that exceptional, my esthetician was great. I know that there were probably other spas in Austin that could offer the same level of service, but I enjoy going to the same person and having a sense of loyalty. So I had scheduled an appointment for the same monthly service that I always get, and I accidentally wrote down the wrong time. Mecca called me during the booked appt time to ask where I was, and I apologized and said I thought it was an hour later, but that I could get there in 10 minutes. My esthetician had another appointment though, so I rescheduled my appointment for the following day, Sunday, at 9am. Still, Mecca decided to charge me the FULL appt. fee for my missed appt. the day before, even though I made it up the following day at a time when no one, including their mother, was probably up yet. Even though I had been a loyal customer and going to Mecca every month (sometimes more) for the past 3 years, money is more important to them than their customer loyalty. The staff even told me that there have been customers who had to go to funerals and missed their appt, but Mecca still charged them!! That is not something to be proud of. Austin has thousands of outstanding and reputable spas - Do NOT go to Mecca. They do not care about customer service and apparently even if someone in your family died, well their attitude is ""Too bad... we will charge your AmEx on file"". Cons: No customer service more

Used to be my favorite spa 11/12/2006

Mecca used to be my favorite spa. I had been going to Mecca twice a month exclusively for more than six months and found a fabulous masseuse and facial person. I loved the locker room, showers and steam room because they were large and spacious. The front desk staff was not very friendly, but that wasn't a big deal since the people giving the treatments were. \r One day I made and appointment and planned to spend some time with a friend who also had an appointment (on my recommendation). We were relaxing in the steam room and one of the front desk staff came to tell me I was 15 minutes late for my appointment. I was sure they were mistaken and they tried to force me to take the rest of my appointment and pay for it. Later I found out that the manager had left me a voicemail the day before and had moved my appointment 30 minutes earlier without even speaking to me!\r Then, they charged me $20 for using the steam room and taking a shower after they messed up my appointment!\r After this incident, I have found another downtown spa that I am very happy with and refuse to go back to Mecca. The rudeness of the front desk staff and manager I dealt with does not make the great services and dressing area worth it. I don't think they know how much business they lost, because I always had freinds meeting me there for my birthday or other special days, recommended my fiance buy a gift certificate there for his mom and planned to treat my wedding party there next year. Oh well, there are plenty of other great spas in Austin that appreciate my patronage. Pros: Great spa services Cons: Rude front desk staff and manager more
