Finding the reviews of this place absolutely made my night. I almost felt bad everytime anyone mentioned going to the gun room, because of the quick angry response I always give w...

I've been to this place several times over a period of about 20 years. I've never purchased from them as they have always been kind of pricey. I can usually find any weapon I'm lo...

Old School Used Car Pricing and Nonsense 10/13/2008

Congeniality issues aside. Make sure you have done your research and know the fair market value of the item in question before saying yes to the deal. Old school used car salesman pricing and techniques are utilized here. (Put a ridiculous price on the sticker and when you knock %10 off, the customer thinks they are getting a deal) The options in Portland are limited in number but they all surpass this place in most respects. Perhaps one could get a good price here if they are willing to haggle and deal. However, I prefer to do business with people who do not insult my intelligence. P.S.The one positive review is from someone admittedly unfamiliar with firearms and who spent 3-4 hours in the shop for a single purchase. You be the judge. Pros: Large selection of shotguns Cons: pricing, overall selection, sales tactics more

More helpful than all other gun shops in Portland combined 10/11/2008

This is the best gun shop I've ever been to - I'm new to guns and went to gi joes, sportsman's warehouse, and a few other gun shops with lots of questions and little knowledge. No one I talked to at any other store knew much more than I did about guns, but the guys at the gun room have all been shooting for decades. I must have spent a good 3-4 hours talking and asking all my stupid questions before I bought anything, and they were quite genial. It's sad that little whiners who got in an argument over some gun trivia BS all come here to complain. The place has been open 30 years, care to explain how that happened? Pros: Decades of expertise, free reloading, lifetime guarantee on all guns Cons: Lots of people don't get along with the owner, reagan-loving atmosphere more

Absolute joke 10/8/2008

Read the other reviews by folks and strongly agree with their negative sentiments. This place is absolutely ridiculous. I have been there 3 times, each time the same experience. Prices are atrocious. Went in looking for a Remington 700 to part/build. Taking a look at a bunch of them was baffled by the high pricing. Example, Remington SPS Varmint in .223 -- Remington retail $663, Gun Room price $897. No BS. Astonishing pricing, service is horrible too. I've heard him bash Glocks to me, as well as Kimber. Have both. Thousands of rounds through my duty Glock w/o a single malfunction. How can you call that junk Mr. Gun Room? I'll be sure none of my coworkers in this city use your shop. I've never seen folks or myself consistently treated like that. I'm also amazed the doors have remained open for so long. Pros: Not a thing Cons: Rude, extremely high pricing, poor quality optics, poor selection of new f-arms more

what a cockmonkey!! 9/25/2008

this guy defies all logic, he really hates to be bothered by ""customers"". Pros: a phone call provides all the info you need, to stay away! Cons: owner has pea sized brain. more

Unless you've got more money than brains, avoid 8/26/2008

After I graduated from college this spring, I purchased myself a Springfield 1911 to celebrate. I went by ""The Gun Room"" to browse their selection of 1911s and was SORELY disappointed. Apparently, this shop only carries Colts. Excellent guns mind you, but out of my price range. I inquired as to the availability of Springfield arms. ""I don't carry junk,"" was the reply. I then asked for an opinion for a good CCW gun. """"I only carry a 1911 government,"" he said. Again, not very helpful. He consistently bashed GLOCKs, SIGs, Springfields, all revolvers, and even some very high dollar custom 1911s. I promptly left. Pros: Lots of high dollar guns to look at Cons: Everything under the sun more

Bad service, restocking fees that should be illegal. 6/17/2008

Owner is very rude if you are going to return something. Charged me a 38.4% restocking fee, will report them. Do not shop here. Pros: Good selection Cons: Terrible customer service, they will rip you off. more

The Gun Room is for Grumpy old Men!!! 5/2/2008

These guys are the epitomy of ""snob""! Never have I entered a gun shop any where in the U.S. and been so thouroughly angered by the attitude of these guys! I walked in looking for a Stoeger Cougar 9mm,and scope mount for my Nagant M44 ,I got nothing but snide remarks and complete disrespect from these old crows. Take my advice, don't go there. The Gun Broker on Old 82nd and Northwest Armory on Mcloughlin are probably the two best shops Ive been to ,they treat you like family, The Gun Room treats You like your an idiot the minute You ask them anything. I would hope they read these reviews and pull thier heads out thier own shotgun barrels. Pros: wish they had some Cons: bunch of stuck up codgers I tell ya! more

Stay Away!!! 4/4/2008

As a long time competitive shooter (NRA High Power Rifle, SASS, and USPSA), civilian and law enforcement firearms trainer, and gun rights activist, I have to say the guy who owns this place (""Warren"", I believe I heard someone call him) gives gun owners a bad name. After having been insulted by him on a two occasions (I foolishly thought I'd give him and his place a second chance after the first occurrence), I have to advise anyone shopping for guns in the Portland, Oregon area to stay away from this place. ""Warren"" is the type of guy who gives gun owners a bad image, and he plays right into the gun prohibitionists' tactic of making gun owners appear small-minded and belligerent. On top of all that, his prices are approximately 15-25% above market! This guy should be run out of business! more

Dont shop here 3/17/2008

When considering a pistol to purchase, I like to find out about the gun before buying (especially the history if it is used). These guys are not pleasent to talk to though. These guys are cold, rude, and unprofesional. I dont look like your standard gun consumer, but having done 12 months in Iraq, and 15 months in Afghanistan as an Infantry sergeant I know a little about small arms, but since I dont look the part these guys treated me with total dis-respect. When asking about trading in my Beretta 92 I was scoffed at, told Berettas were junk, and that they dont sell them. Last time I went in there they had 10 in the case. Buy at a gun show or online before these guys. These hillbillys need to get with the program or go back to the hills! more

Mean owner ... careful what you ask in his store. 12/18/2007

Been shooting guns for 29 years. Own a few. more

Opinionated, obnoxious, Prima Donna 12/16/2007

Nothing wrong with having strong opinions but this guy is over the top! Pros: location Cons: Owner, prices, selection more

Its like the old South in Portland 12/9/2007

I love guns; I hunt. I am a Democrat. Gun stores are a lot like auto parts stores sometimes. I guess they deal with all kinds. But if you are looking for a laugh or a waste of your time, here you go. The Gun Room is stocked with rifles and shotguns marked up 40% of their real value. You have these ""shut-ins"" as your salesman. The Nimrods that work there will work you, if you question their judgment, well its ""just junk"" or its just bad to them, the owner questioned the worthiness of the 308 and the 7 mil mag. rounds as Rush Limbaugh talked to him on over their PA- Its like the old South in Portland - the last stand off. The only reason I would go back is to torment the owner. Try it yourself? Walk in and tell him his prices are way too high. He will probably have a coronary on the spot. Cons: all more

Caution...Do not enter!!! 11/12/2007

Wow, quite possiblly the worst gun shop I've ever experienced. Owner is a tool. Full of useless opinions that are either wrong or so far of the scale you wonder how he stays in business. Owner (forgot his name because we left so quicklly) said that the Ruger Vaqaro pistols were infirior to any pistol that Colt put out for the Cowboy action class?!?! (Must be rich to always be able to buy Colt?!?!) He continued to argue the point after my Father and I walked away from him in anoyance and frustration. Prices on most items in the store were also for people who want to spend more than they should on any product. Avoid these guys! We as consumers have more choices than this, than to waste our time and money!! Pros: Not even a shred of anything!!! Cons: Everthing that you could think of!! more

stay away - bad customer service pricey 10/3/2007

Prices are way too high. The owner, like many gun shop owners is a ""real know it all"" he always knows more then you. Called a 308 a bad round, 7mm mag. bad. well, all mag rounds are bad to him; sells well over 100% of market price. Tried to put on a scope on a rife after I bought it without even asking me. Pros: in town Cons: many more
