Finding the reviews of this place 3/29/2012

Finding the reviews of this place absolutely made my night. I almost felt bad everytime anyone mentioned going to the gun room, because of the quick angry response I always give without thinking, to the tune of the biggest rip off shop I'd ever seen, with a bunch of jack wagons behind the counter that don't know their a$$ from their elbow. Considering I'd never had really any major negative things to say about any gun shop, I felt maybe I, just by complete chance-- had the two worst shopping experiences ever consecutively at the same place. After reading these reviews, I don't have to worry about my opinions being bias. My first experience was when I first moved down here, I was looking for a correct grade m1 garand. I saw the gun room and pulled in. Met with incoherent mumbling rather than maybe a hello, I was shown their selection of m1 garands. I wouldn't call myself an expert, but quite an enthusiast. I am a professional in my career, and when I go to buy something, I'm looking for a professional to buy from, who hopefully knows more than me about the product theyre trying to sell me. He pulled out the most shot out, oil soaked near black wood, zinc phosphate depleted piece of firearm history I had ever seen. With a wonderful pricetag of almost $1900! Thinking this was probably a complete matching original that had been to hell and back in the tropics of the pacific and would make a wonderful wall hanger for someone, I looked over it, and huge red flags instantly stuck out. The biggest being, the glorious importer marking on the side telling me this was one of those overseas government giveaways that had been used, abused, torn apart in bins and put back together with non-milspec parts filling in the blanks, bought by an importer-- AKA the m1 garands Big5 was pawning off periodically for way under half the price they wanted. Trying to be nice, I told him it was out of my price range. I was told ""we have financing!"" yeah, great idea-- take out a loan on a triple priced POS that I'd be lucky to get through an enbloc clip with. I laughed, said thanks and walked out. I ordered my m1 garand from the cmp the next day, a beautiful correct grade shooter with a receiver made in 1943. And guess what? Half the price. I could go on forever about my second experience, but looking at my rant I think this one gives you my impression. The only reason I'm giving it 5 stars, you could go in and laugh your ass off at the ignorance and anger dribbling out of these old bubbas mouths. Entertainment factor, I've never seen a shop like it. more

Reviews left me doubtful, but this place is really cool! 3/28/2012

I saw a lot of negative reviews and was skeptical about this store. I entered and was first astounded at the number of rifles and revolvers they had. Excellent selection! After looking around for a few minutes, someone asked if I needed help. Yes, I was looking for a cleaning kit and bore brush. They showed me several, explained why they liked them, and I selected one on their recommendation, but decided to get a different cleaner on my own preference. They were very friendly and helpful. \r \r They also seemed to have very strong opinions about the products they sold. I believe a lot of people may be turned off by this, but I like that attitude very much. I don't want to be coddled. \r \r We live in a country now where everyone wants their hand held, and although they won't do that here, this store has an excellent selection and a very good staff with strong values and prices that yes, may be high, but what can a local business do to compete with a generation accustomed to Wal-Mart prices more

Wanna be made out as an idiot? 7/1/2011

I've been to this place several times over a period of about 20 years. I've never purchased from them as they have always been kind of pricey. I can usually find any weapon I'm looking for at 20% to 30% less elsewhere locally. Recently I noticed they carry quite a few Winchester model 12 shotguns. 12's are pricey on their own just because it is a high quality weapon. more

Gun room fails at guns!! 5/10/2011

Daveholio you sir are a clown. Moreover you are a double clown for admitting you know dick and all about guns then deciding that you are qualified to weigh in on what constitutes a good gun purveyor. First off you cited GI Joes and the rest of the Wall- Marts around town as if they were actual gun shops. These are not gun stores and therefore the idiots in smocks behind the counter are know nothing 9 dollar an hour retail monkeys. You do realize ten minutes before you came in those same monkeys were probably behind the counter in women's sports apparel. Having said that if you want actual gun knowledge go to an actual gun shop A.K.A. Keith's. Also the prices at the gun room are a complete ripoff. No one sells at MSRP ever let alone 30% above MSRP. So of course the guns are warrantied for life. You pay literally twice what it's worth and guns generally don't wear out. Also that 40 dollar mag was probably 22 dollars at any other gun shop. So in a nut shell you are an ignorant twit that w more

failed gun store 11/13/2010

There is so much fail in this store I do not know where to begin! Went in with my ""newly acquainted to the gun world' girlfriend to purchase a Smith & Wesson revolver. In the process was told that Glock handguns ""exploded"" and ""kill people""! That the .38spl cartridge was the best defensive hand gun round ever made, period.!"" Gruff and rude service combined with total ignorance of both customer service and the handgun world. Outrageously overpriced. Would never set foot in store again...recommend that you don't either! Dangerous to be so misinformed. He's not exactly selling shoes! more

I went there several years ago... 9/1/2010

they made a determined effort to convince me to buy a spendy upscale handgun, finally asking ""How much is your life worth?"" Around 300 dollars I replied. This seemed to dampen their enthusiasm. I ended up at the Gun Broker on 82nd. Reasonable staff and prices-no guff. more

Dont bother 4/26/2010

I came in asked for a glock, colt 1911's are the best I was told. shown articles on blown up police hands from plastic guns. Pros: If you want to purposly insult yourself Cons: ignorant believers of the past more

It's like walking into a vinyl record store full of hipsters 4/6/2010

Stopped by the Gun Room when I was searching for a hard pistol case I could take on a plane. Bi Mart didn't have any that fulfilled the TSA requirements and Walmart sold this big case that can hold a billion pistols at once. I just needed a small case that holds one pistol. Because the Gun Room was nearby I stopped in. When I asked if they had a TSA approved case one of the guys led me to this fancy $70 case. I asked him if they had anything cheaper and he gave me this dirty look like I had just punched his mom in the face, then pointed over to another part of the store.\r \r I had to go look around by myself because buddy apparently had something better to do. Eventually, I found a decent case. On the plus side, it was only $10. On the downside I had to listen to the guy behind the counter in a trucker hat rant on about how Obama is going to take our guns and give them to the immigrants or some such nonsense for ten minutes while I patiently waited to pay for my case.\r \r I would like my more

Are you ready for insults / humiliation / abuse ? 12/10/2009

It is absolutely AMAZING AND BREATHTAKING that these guys stay in business. No matter what firearm or accessory you are interested in, what you already have is crap, and what they say you need is the best. Anything and everything you say is wrong, all their opinions are right. Pros: Great for Masochists Cons: none not already mentioned in 42 negative reviews more

Looser 11/2/2009

Called to ask if he had any Savage model rifles in stock and he replied. ""I wouldn't sell that crap in my store."" This guy obviously doesn't have a clue as to what is good and what isn't as proven by other customers reviews in regards to what he sells. He dude, get a clue, savage is one of the few remaining AMERICAN companies that builds quality. Cons: Ignorant people more

This guy has a Brazilian screw loose 7/18/2009

I've bought cleaning supplies from these guys before. Being in their shop is like that nostalgic feeling of dread, like going back in time to White Man's Alabama. Their section at the time was based on rifles. They had very little to offer in handguns, but get this: They had a display case full of the now defunct Bren Ten revolvers. Kind of let's you know what kind of businessmen they are. The only other inaction I had with them was several years later. I called them to ask if they carried any M1A rifles. The man on the phone immediately became angry and shouted that he won't ever sell those rifles again, they're all made with sh***y Brazilian-made parts and he had a rifle he sold explode on a customer because of it. I did a lot of research about this, and came to the conclusion that the M1A and it's parts are NOT made anywhere but good old S.A. Needless to say, I will not be shopping at the Gun Room again, but apparently, I need to drop off some straight jacket for these men. Pros: Big used rifle selection, I guess Cons: Insane customer relations, rude, abrasive, patronizing sales more

Bad Buisness 7/15/2009

Went in to buy cleaning supplies for my handguns and was checking out what they had to offer for handguns they asked what I own and they automatically took me to the chop shop. These jerks are totally old school and are stuck in the past and have no clue of modern gun technology. I would like to see a for lease sign on there front door. Pros: In Town Cons: Many more

Warren - yes, you are a joke... 6/13/2009

Why Warren's place is even talked about - you got me. Buying a firearm should be a good experience - The Gun Room is a slug. The slimy one.. Not the lead... more

Buncha Assclowns 2/15/2009

Warren has a definite personality disorder, but the other guys there aren't much better. Stay away from those bozos, go to Keith's or GunBroker or NW Armory instead, Pros: Good selection of long guns, although overpriced Cons: Loony owner, rude staff more

High prices. Disrespectful staff. Never going back!!! 2/9/2009

I've been to the gun room twice. Both times were bad experiences. I went the second time because they carry the specific handgun that I wanted and I figured I'd give them a second chance. Bad idea. Two different clerks same negative attitude. The gun I wanted was priced 30% above MSRP so I took my business elsewhere. The lifetime guarantee they offer is useless to me, If my gun breaks i'd rather buy a new one than go back to the gun room. more

If you're a liberal, you're not welcome. 1/29/2009

Our visit to their shop can be categorized by one word: Abrasive. The abrasive quality of the shop was evident once we stepped a single foot into their store. A greeting of ""Good afternoon, Gentlemen"" resulted in a shop owner claiming that ""we're not all liberals here,"" so apparently this sort of language is looked down upon. One might think this would be the pinnacle of abrasiveness, but lo' and behold, they extend their abrasiveness to being sexist. When discussing the resale of weapons, the shop owner stated to a female patron that ""didn't she wish the price of shoes was more over time?"", as if she could only relate to valuable items in the context of apparel. The icing on this abrasive cake was when a patron telephoned the shop and the following was heard: ""We don't sell that sh*t here. Never call back again."" Simple advice: Don't visit this shop. Cons: Everything imaginable and then a mountain's worth more of cons more

Not really a bad gun shop. 1/9/2009

One has to understand Warren the owner of the Gun Room. Yes, he is a curmudgeon and very opinionated. He is so guilty of using all the bad sales techniques like trashing things he doesn?t like. He comes off very negative. That is just his personality. Warren does however have a heart of gold. He is genuinely honest, and can be very informative. He does have a lot of knowledge about guns and shooting sports. Yes, he does have a great opinion of himself too. He does carry a selection of very expensive guns. His shop is the closest one in Portland can get to one of those fancy shops in England. He also offers financing, which no one else on the city does. His prices are on the high side, but then he carries inventory no one else in town has. He also has a great selection of Bismuth shot shells for older shotguns unlike other stores. No one there twists your arm to purchase anything, so go there look around, have some coffee and be entertained by Warren and his rants. Who knows, maybe you might even find something you like and buy it. Pros: Good selection of upper end guns Cons: Warren is too negative more

Hands-down the WORST gun shop in Oregon, if not America 1/7/2009

Have you ever patronized a business, and had such a bad experience that you left wondering, ""How on Earth do these guys even stay in business?"" Well, that's the reaction you'll likely get if you're brave enough (or stupid enough) to visit what has to be, hands-down, the absolute WORST gun store in Portland. The owner, a guy named Warren, appears to be crazy. And I don't mean that simply in a name-calling type of way. I mean, he LITERALLY appears to be crazy. Never before have I seen a business owner yell at a customer for no reason. Until I went to The Gun Room, that is. Basically, imagine the absolute worst stereotype you can for a creepy, far right-wing kook, and you've got this Warren character. Oh yes, he is definitely one of those ?black helicopters are coming to get me!? types. As for his store, he's the only gun dealer I've ever seen that actually sells stuff above MSRP! And he only carries a very limited selection of firearms. And if he doesn't carry something, he will tell you that it's because the item you want is junk. Glock? It's junk to Warren. Sig Sauer? It's junk to Warren. Walther? Junk. Kimber? Junk. Are you starting to get the picture? The guy is opinionated. In and of itself, that's not necessarily bad. But when your opinions aren't based on even the flimsiest of logic, reason or fact, one has to consider that your opinions are worthless and were pulled out of a certain body orrifice. Folks, read these Citysearch reviews of The Gun Room. Notice how virtually every single one is bad? That's not a coincidence...it's a warning! So, how much do I dislike The Gun Room and its owner? Well, let me put it this way: If this Warren character was on fire, I wouldn't even relieve myself on him to put the fire out! Unless you like throwing away money, being verbally abused, and doing business with a man who doesn't know jack about firearms, stay away from The Gun Room. Pros: You'll feel better about yourself after meeting the owner of The Gun Room Cons: You'll also feel like you need to take a shower after being in the same room with such a dirtbag more

Glorified pawn shop junk in a dark unkempt store. 1/7/2009

I didn't mind being ignored, the shop was very unkempt and it's as homey as the Dixie Mattress Company on SE Belmont. Pros: Guns in Portland. Cons: Everything else. more

Avoid at all costs 12/18/2008

I gave this dump one star because I couldn't give it no stars. Warren is a loudmouth knowitall that berates and belittles anyone that disagrees with him. Put it this way; when Portland's blatantly anti-gun talking heads need an ""expert"" on guns, they use this assclown. 'Nuff said. more
