What to Expect
One of the oldest marketplaces in the country, the Farmer's Market sits in the middle of downtown Richmond. Visit on the weekend when the number of local farmers vending their produce is at its highest. At the height of summer, sample local peaches and melons, purchase colorful peppers for roasting and, of course, taste ripe Hanover tomatoes. Today, Richmond's Farmer's Market is located under the shade of Main Street Station (1520 E. Main Street) which was built in 1901 as the major entranceway for city visitors. Its grand clock tower still commands the view from Interstate 95. Its 400-foot-long metal shed, which has sheltered both people and trains for over a century, is still intact. The train station is now used as a state office and storage facility.
