Best

Consistent, high quality hair cut and color services. Exceptional staff (Yelena is the best!) who treat you like you're the princess every time you walk in their door.

I've tried Alma G a few times with different stylists each time. Everyone I've dealt with there is condescending and just not pleasant. I agree with the previous poster who said t...

The best place for a perfect blow-dry! 7/30/2009

I have been going to The Alma salon for nearly 8 years now. Having moved here from California with not exactly the easiest hair to style (thick and wavy) -- I tried every high-end salon possilble to find the right color and blow-dry. Nobody has ever been able to blow-out my hair the way Nina does or get the blonde right. Nina is my girl, although Alma is amazing too. I travel a lot and while away --sometimes you still need a good blow-out -- despite visiting top salons around the country I have yet to find anyone better than the girls at Alma. I read some of these reviews while sitting on a conference call and felt compelled to write one-- The Alma Salon is- hands down- the best please for a perfect blow-dry! Pros: Love the people, the talent and the way they do hair more

BEST COLOR AND SERVICE I'VE EVER HAD- AND I'VE HAD A LOT! 2/19/2009

I walked in on a whim to the ALMA salon hoping they could fix a previous coloring job that I was unhappy with. Nina, Kelly and the entire staff could not have been nicer and more accomodating and NINA truly worked a miracle on me! They offered me wine, tea a back massage and made me so comfortable. A friend I was meeting could not believe the transformation by the time they were done. I was so ecstatic when I walked out of there- I am a fan for life and will absolutely trust them again and again. Plus, the price was SO REASONABLE!!! Which made it all more than perfect. I don't live in the city, but will make the 60 minute trip from now on just to go there. My hair was SAVED. I can't wait to try more services and am very grateful that I took the chance. Thanks ALMA SALON! Hope to see you soon- EW Pros: service, staff and quality of color more

BEST FACIAL AND HAIR CUT I'VE EVER HAD!!!! 1/29/2009

I have never written a review before but I thought my experience yesterday at Alma salon definitely deserved one!!! I just moved to the city a few months ago for a job and have been looking for salons to get a new trendy hair cut for my new life in NYC! I got a recommendation from a girl I work with who goes there regularly and absolutely loves the place. She said while I was there I should also try their facials which she swears by, and so of course I did. I have to say from the minute I walked in the salon I felt amazing! I was greeted with a friendly receptionist and staff, my jacket was taken off, and was offered a glass of wine immediately! I then met with Alma and we discussed a few ideas for my new do. She made me feel so comfortable and I was confident that she would make me look beatiful! She put some natural highlights and did the most cutest cut I have ever had! I have never been to a stylist that made my hair look as good as she did! I'm so happy with my hair and I have to recommend the facials to everyone. My skin looks amazing and it was such a relaxing experience! I definitely recommend Alma Salon, especially for all the new people in town like myself who are looking for a great salon! I found the one!!!! more

My best salon experience ever! 1/28/2009

\r I started a new job across the street from the Alma Salon and decided i'd try a new place. I spoke with hairstylist Raquel who offerered me some warm green tea when i sat in her chair. I asked her opinion on color and a new cut, she listened to what i wanted and my new look is amazing! I'm so glad i stopped by and i'm so excited about my new place! Pros: service value more

great place 1/28/2009

i got to this hair salon to get a relaxer as i have spanish hair.....lol and the reason i went there its bacuse of the reviews on this website.i personally had a great time...they have this great relaxer that worked very good on me .i also got a hot chockolate while i was waiting for the procces to finish.\r they are very attending and so great at what they do.......i loved seeing them in action with other customers\r i will recomend this to anybody\r see their nail tech if you want to get two things in the same time\r \r Pros: the ability to do nails and relaxer or color in the same time more

No class or proffessionalizm here...at Alma's 1/20/2009

I wish I had read these reviews before going into this place. The awful service began as soon as I sat down in the shampoo seat. The shampoo girl was extremely rough and rude, and chatted loudly with the girl next to her and didn't once say a word to me. Then when I sat in the stylist's chair (Alma), she was nowhere to be found, and was instead outside chatting on the phone for 10 minutes while I sat there and waited. When she finally came in, I tried to explain what I wanted, and specifically said 'Do not take off any length, I'm trying to grow out my hair."" I just wanted some long layers and angles in front. Clearly that didn't mean anything to her, and she proceeded to attack my hair with a razor to 'thin out the ends' because my hair was too thick. Since when is having thick hair a bad thing? I couldn't see what was happening, and at one point I said, ""you're not taking off length are you?"" and she assured me she wasn't. She was very rough and kept pushing my head from one side to the other and came close to poking my eyes several times. When I felt my hair at the end, it felt like I had none left because the ends were so thin. The haircut itself isn''t awful, but it's not what I wanted, and it's about 2 inches shorter. My hair feels so thin and fragile now, and my long thick locks are gone. $85 to $100 for a wash, cut and dry are not worth it for bad service and bad stylists. i could have paid the same somewhere else and been treated like a valued customer. \r Well it is obvious that his place is NOT a proffessional hair salon and most of the reviews are incredibly negative. Don't make my miatake and avoid this place.\r \r Pros:are you kidding me!!!!!\r \r Cons: EVERYTHING POSSIBLE Pros: are you kidding me Cons: everything more

My Favorite Salon 10/3/2008

I don?t hail in the Great NYC, but I must say every time I make the trip Alma G Salon is a must stop before heading back home and hitting the hard streets of Chicago. From the moment I walk in I am greeted by the friendly staff. After a glass of Wine and a fine pedicure Alma takes over and displays her prowess in modern style all while providing the latest in hair treatment technology. Every time I step out the door my hair feels great and I think about the next time I can come treat myself again.\r -Satisfied Customer\r Pros: freindly staff, great style, modern atmosphere more

Absolutely content...... 10/3/2008

I have never written a review in my life for anything but I have to comment on this salon. I've got my color and cut by Alma and Im absolutely content. The experience from start to end was amazing. The receptionist was very friendly, she offered me a beverage and tried to accommodate me. Soon I was met by Alma, she asked me what I wanted and made suggestions on what would be suited to my face and my style. Her confidence and genuinity made me feel comfortable. She gave me a trendy cut and a rich, dark color. I was truly impressed by how shiny and healthy my hair was after the color. I felt great. I admire and respect Alma and the Salon staff. Pros: everything more

Tense, pushy, hurried envionment and fried hair! 7/14/2008

I went to this salon several times. The first hair cut by Alma was wonderful. After that my experience was down hill. Once I asked for a few highlights between color appointments and got a full head anyway with dual process costing me almost $400. With each visit there was some extra charge that I was not aware of until I paid and I walked out feeling robbed. I brought it to their attention but they never found it necessary to let me know what processes they would be charging me for. The final straw was a full head highlight job that Alma thought was so amazing. I had to go somewhere else 2 days later to get it trimmed because it was fried. The new stylist recommended a toner and said it did not appear that they put a toner on my hair which is a major screw up. I do recall when the girl put the toner on my hair, Alma rushed her and it did not stay on long. Then she put on a conditioning treatment that she immediately washed out because Alma was rushing her. The girl rinsing my hair actually seemed afraid! My highlights were orange and yellow! This cost $375. just for the color not to mention the cost of getting it corrected. My experience initially was okay but I will never return. Putting up with an arrogant stylist is not my idea of good salon experience and not something I feel good about paying that much for. There are too many other great salons in this city and talented stylist that actually listen, focus on you and leave you feeling special, and not the other way around! When I left the salon the last time, she actually said ""you look great and it's all because of me""! Pros: Girl at the reception desk very friendly and the salon decorated well. Cons: Everything else. more

Black to Blonde 11/14/2007

Not too many people can do this with the expertise that these people can.\r I love Alma G Salon. \r Its filled with beautiful people cutting your hair, models walking around you, and great head massages when you get your hair washed.\r They cut, color, blow-dry, and make you look beautiful instantaneously...oh they do wax too...\r love this place. more

Fantastic styles for a steal !!! 9/30/2007

I was just reading the previous review and I could not help it but laugh. The reviewer talks about uneven layers, .....how about great modern stylish cuts with enough edge and sophistication to fit the spirit of NYC.\r And it gets even better, the prices are a steal. After years of having to spend $300 -400 for the same quality work in the pretencious upper east side salons, I am certainly very happy to find a geam such as the Alma G Salon. Pros: Great atmosphere and energy, fantastic results, very cordial staff, great value. more

very unhappy! 9/26/2007

I went in the other day to get some layers, and walked out with a horrid haircut! Uneven!! Overpriced and they all are very pushy, whether it be their spa services or just products. never again! Cons: nothing in tact! more

Great place and people 7/19/2007

After being in too many salons and not feeling comfortable in most, Alma Salon felt perfect from the moment I walked in. Everyone is very friendly and Alma is wonderful. Her cut was great as well as the styling. She's definitly a keeper! more

Addicted for sure :) 9/19/2006

What a gem! I get everything done here: highlights, haircut, mani, pedi, facial AND love, love the results each time. Since coming to Alma's, I receive so much more compliments on my hair, skin and nails. I'm so addicted to Alma's that I find myself going there weekly for my dose of pampering, beauty needs and maintenance. Talented, accomodating, welcoming and friendly, hip and fun staff. Ideal place to relax and unwind, have a glass of wine/martini while you beautify yourself. The search is over for the perfect place for all my beauty needs, the Alma's salon does it for me for sures :) more

Best of Breed 9/4/2006

After years of settling for 'so so' hair at extrordinary prices, I was referred to Alma. From the minute I walked into her shop she 'got me'. Not the way the I looked, the way I could look. She suggested that I grow out my hair and lightened my ashy blond to the color I had as a child . People don't just tell me they love my hair, they tell me I look great. I have a sensational and versatile cut that always looks great and gorgeous color. I've been going to Alma for over a year and have never been happier with my hair. I've only had wonderful experiences in the salon as well. Her staff is professional but warm and friendly. Pros: Talented staff, great location. more

BAD VALUE, PRETENTIOUS AND POOR SERVICE 7/30/2006

I've tried Alma G a few times with different stylists each time. Everyone I've dealt with there is condescending and just not pleasant. I agree with the previous poster who said they're too money hungry. It's overpriced for what you get and they are just desperate to add on wherever possible. Part of my beef is also that they don't really listen. I asked for no layers and the gal just stood there and looked at me, then proceeded to tell me that I needed them in a very patronizing way. I explained again that I didn't want them and had to stop her mid-cut when she went to put them in anyways. I like a hairdresser with ideas, but not people who are pushy like these folks. Pros: Nice interior Cons: OVERPRICED AND PUSHY more

JUST FANTASTIC 3/13/2006

VERU PROFESSIONAL STUFF GREAT ATMOSPHERE I GOT MY GLASS OF WINE WHILE THEY WORKED ON MY HAIR AND NAILS THANK YOU ALMA AND STUFF ASK THEM FOR THEIR SPECIALS THEY ARE RUNNING ENJOY PEOPLE Pros: SERVICE, PROFESSINALISM, NOT PUSHY more

I will definately go back! 12/23/2005

I picked this salon randonly and I was very pleased. The women are so nice and even though the prices are a little high for me I was very happy with the results. I paid a little else elsewhere but these women take what they do very seriously and it shows. I had no wait and after one day with my new haircut I have already lost track of the compliments I have received. I also got a facial and a manicure since I had extra time and my skim is glowing. I would recommend this salon to friends and family. Pros: champange, luxury, kindness Cons: prices, add-ons more

Not happy 8/8/2005

I wet to Alma Salon for a one process color. It came out way to dark w/ golden tones and I specifically told her I hate gold. I had to beg not to get a blow out because I was just going home and did not need one. She kept insisting I should get one but I had to stand my ground firmly. I would not go back to this salon, I feel they are too money hungry. Pros: comfortable Cons: greedy, unskilled more
