Best

This restaurant is one of the best Thai place in the triangle. I frequently go around to try new Thai places but they never compare to the food here. I always have my favorites ...

Worst

I went to this place with my wife as my friend had recommended it in the past. It was pretty bad. I think this is an unpredictable place as someone mentioned in an earlier review....

Avoid at all costs 2/21/2008

My recommendation to you is to avoid this restaurant. It was a horrible experience , and pretty pricy for what they had to offer. I ordered The vegetarian red curry, the tofu tasted like it's been recycled over the years, and the grapes were browning. My husband ordered the chicken pad thai which smelled like roadkill. We also ordered veggie rolls stuffed with lettuce and basil that had a hint of soap. \r more

Horrible and I am being nice. 1/31/2008

This resturant was highly recommended by one of my co-workers and I was absolutely disappointed. It was my first experience with Thai food and my last experience with Thai Villa. The decor is very out dated and the seats are very uncomfortable. The service was extremely slow and the food was not good at all and you can image what the ambience was like...There wasn't one. I should of turned around when I saw how empty it was during lunch crowd.\r \r It was a total waste of time and $$$$...Trust me don't even waste your time. more

Food was not that great, staff is attentive, ambience barely ok 12/29/2007

I went to this place with my wife as my friend had recommended it in the past. It was pretty bad. I think this is an unpredictable place as someone mentioned in an earlier review. We are not planning to visit this place anytime soon. Pros: Food not up to mark, ambience so-so Cons: Staff attentive more

Ever been to Thailand? 11/24/2007

You will feel like you've been after a trip to this authentic Thai rest. Historically, this restaurant has been underappreciated in part because of its dated appearance and the lack of any abc permits. However, Thai Villa is successful because of its food which is consistently superior. Try the Gaeng Jae (extra spicy) and the Fresh Rolls along with a warm cup of green tea. Also, the staff is very attentive. Pros: Food Cons: No abc permits more

Yummy vegetarian dishes 9/12/2007

I've eaten at a lot of Thai restaurants, and this one is my favorite by far. The curry dishes and tofu pad thai are always tasty. They make awesome Thai iced tea too! more

so-so thai cuisine 7/21/2007

I can't believe this place has a 4.5 star rating. I've eaten here about four times over the past five years. I have had a couple good meals here, but after having had excellent traditional Thai food in California (and other places in the triangle) I've had to reevaluate my opinion. The food is very so-so, not bad, but not especially good either. The decor feels very cheap (it always boggles my mind why some restaurants don't ever improve upon their appearance). The wait staff were very attentive, but when the food is clearly lacking that doesn't help much.\r \r Opinions may vary, but I feel there are MUCH better options for the same/similar price.\r \r If you would like to try Thai in the triangle, I can heartily recommend The King and I in Cary as well as Sawasdee in Raleigh. The atmosphere at both of these restaurants is much more inviting and pleasant, and the food is step above Thai Villa.\r \r I would give it a 2.5 star rating if you could do half stars. Pros: Relatively inexpensive Cons: food was not especially good, atmosphere was poor more

best thai in the triangle 3/8/2007

I feel like I have the responsibility of sticking up for one of my favorite area restaurants after reading that las review. For starters, I first tried this restaurant about 5 years ago I think. The first thing I ever ordered was red curry tofu and after trying a lot of other menu items I have kindof rested on this one. All the noodle dishes are the most flavorful I've ever had. All of the curries are full of authentic thai flavors. All of the appetizers are wonderful. This is a great place to eat with first time thai diners or vegetarian friends. They will substitute tofu into any dish. There are a lot of thai and hybrid thai/other style places in the area whose ingredients just don't taste authentic--their spices are flat and galangal, sweet basil, lemongrass, and kaffir lime don't come through-- The chef at Thai Villa has perfected the art of spicing these dishes. Don't be worried when you don't see a lot of people-- they have slow nights because of their location (on the back side of the shopping center at the intersection of Buck Jones Road and Walnut Street)-- on the other hand there are other nights when you can go and the entire dining room is full. I eat at this restaurant once a week. Visit this restaurant and enjoy the magical flavors of thai cuisine.\r Pros: great food, friendly staff, very quick service Cons: none (maybe hard to locate if you haven't been to this shopping center) more

It's Still in Business? 1/4/2007

Unless they changed ownership, I can't believe this place is still in business. The one time I went I got a duck dish that almost had me throwing up. When we asked a waitress why the duck meat was mushy (yes, not tender, mushy!) she simply told us that's the way it's supposed to be. There are many better Thai restaurants in town. more

Best Food!! Great Price!! 8/7/2006

I have been dinning at Thai Villa for over 5 years now. Best Thai food by far. As for ""Kao pad thai villa"" also known as Pineapple Fried Rice in many thai restuarants is one of my favorite among many dishes offer there. I tried it when they first introduced it in the menu and many times after and it ALWAYS have the curry flavor. I had it again tonight and there was nothing different than any other times that i had it. Still has the same curry flavor as it always did. The foods there are flavorful and the price is very reasonable compare to other thai restuarants in the area. The people there are always pleasant and the waitstaffs never leave your glass empty!! and that's very important when you're eating hot and spicy food. Thai Villa Noodle is also very yummy and the coconut ice cream is the best(that is when they have it). Pros: Flavors and Prices Cons: They don't serve alcohol :( more

What a shock! 7/16/2006

We love this restaurant and go every now and then. We enjoy many of their appetizers, entries so much. Among all, the ""Kao Pad Thai Villa"" fried rice has always been my favorite, I LOVE the luxury seafood, sweet pianapple and raisin, along with the just right egg fried rice!! That's why I almost always have this dish, no exception last night. \r Then we figured out that it was kind of different from the usual, mainly the curry flavor---it used to be seasoned WITHOUT curry powder. Moreover, we could even smell the bitterness of some spice(green onion? garlic?) over burned. We asked the waitress and she insisted that it was the dish. She was kind enough to go inside to ask the owner, later we learned that the owner was the chef at this night. She came back with the same answer, then another waitress came and tried to help us cancel or replace with other dish, but got rejected from the owner. I would understand if they told us that they just changed the seasoning recently, but I was 100% sure that this was just not what I had before! Finally, the second waitress came and took the dishes(we even order 2!), she just told us that it's ok if we just canceled them. But, not until check out, we was told by the first waitress that she was gonna pay for that and she was not too happy obviously. I really, really feel so sorry for the waitress, but I feel even more shocked how the owner(is this the nice lady everybody mentioned?) handeled customers' complaint. It seems that we can do nothing. \r Sincerely, we love the food there, but I am not sure we will be back. more

best phadthai in the triangle 6/25/2006

Love the whole fish and the phadthai, best in the area, servie is good. I have eaten at all of the thai places in the triangle, this restaurant has been consistently good. Pros: great food and service Cons: drive to get there more

Best Thai Flavor Around 5/23/2006

Although this is not the place to go for Ambience or to ""impress"" someone with an expensive meal, the food simply cannot be beat. I've tried the summer rolls, a favorite of mine, and a couple of curry dishes. Flavor is excellent...exactly what I ""crave"" when I get a taste for Thai food. Takeout is excellent and good portion size...just enough to split into two small meals if you are trying to watch what you eat, or one yummy portion to make you feel ""stuffed"". Last time I was there they did not have takeout menus printed so you have to wait 20 minutes if you don't know what you want. Friends of mine that like non-spicy Thai food have enjoyed the Ginger chicken. The green curry is excellent. Pros: food!, quick service, value Cons: run down dining room more

Cozy thai restaurant 4/29/2006

Cozy atmosphere. Its a small restaurant. Probably seats only 40 people. Food is good. I recommend the shrimp pad thai. Be weary of how spicy you want your food. Mild = spicy...Hot = VERY spicy... Pros: FOOD, INEXPENSIVE more

Anyone who can keep me in water... 6/21/2005

I love this place! The Peanut Noodles are my fave, egg noodles in a coconut milk curry with chicken, watercress and crushed peanuts - yum! The service is very attentive, I never run out of water and I drink twice as much as most people. It's quiet, even with a full house, so you can actually talk to your companion. The staff are pleasant. The only downside is some of the vinyl booth seats have been taped, but if you hate that, there are nice chairs. I'm taking 8 people tomorrow night, they take reservations.\r \r An update: It's 2007, and they are still fantastic. I've always had excellent customer services experiences - the folks remember me even though I only come every few months now due to a crazy life. Still love the Thai Peanut Noodles. My friend likes the Pad Woon Sein a great deal. Our group reservation when I last wrote was a very good experience, both in terms of food (including special orders) and service. Pros: Delicious food, Quiet, Great Service more

great overall 5/19/2005

as far as entrees i think ive only had their pad thai jae w/ tofu, i get it every time i go there. i went the other night and they took my ""make it spicy"" request VERY seriously! it was great. i advise trying the Tofu Tod appetizer, it is DEEEE-LICIOUS. reasonably priced, quick service, just plain good food! Pros: great food, reasonble prices, quick Cons: no beer =/ more

Hit or miss 1/2/2005

Thai Villa is always a gamble to me- some days it's good... others it's inedible. On my last trip there my Pad Thai had *way* too much fish sauce in it, and my friend's curry dish smelled musty like a barnyard- we suspect the bamboo was old- it was very tough - he couldn't eat it and the staff didn't take it off the bill. Other times I've left there with a very happy belly. So, give it a try- you may like it that night - I know many people who swear by them! Pros: Can be great more

Excellent Thai Flavors 10/31/2004

The flavors are excellent, very diverse and genuine. Reminds me of what can be found in Bangkok only after some rather careful searching. Pros: genuine flavor, polite service more

Excellent! 8/15/2004

I used to live in the area, so I went to Thai Villa all the time. My favorites were the Pad Thai and Red Curry Chicken. Ever since I moved I have been looking for good Thai places close to my new residence, but nothing even comes close to Thai Villa. Now that I no longer live in the Triangle, I have more of an appreciation for REALLY GOOD Thai food. I miss it so much that every time I'm in town I make sure to order myself some Pad Thai... and mangoes in sticky rice. Pros: best Thai food ever, best Thai food ever, best Thai food EVER Cons: , want to keep eating, food is addicting more

Good Pad Thai 6/22/2004

Much better pad thai than I've had elsewhere in the Triangle. Reasonable prices and quick service were a plus. Pros: good parking, good for takeout too more

mmmmmmm thai food...tasty 5/25/2004

waterfall picture= awesome plastic chandelier = awesome tom kha soup = awesome any curry dish = awesome thai villa noodle = awesome the only drawback is if you ask the waitress what she likes, and you are American, she will only recommend tame, non-spicy thai dishes because (I think) they don't believe we can handle anything else. But I gotta admit, it's kind of cute. Pros: food, ambience, service more
