We go a few times a month. Great food, great service. It seems to get busy by 7pm on weekends nights so we go early.\r

Not great but ok. 10/22/2011

Let me start off with that the atmosphere is terrible. You wont want to go here for a romantic dinner. Big windows, tables close together (like a cafeteria), high paneled ceilings. They really need a total revamp of the place. You have a straight view of the waiter section. All 10 waiter/waitress hanging out talking in your view. Food is ok. We had the pad thai (11.96) and basil rolls (3.50). Chicken in the pad thai was dry and the entire meal lacked flavor. To be honest I have had better pad thai at Pei Wei. I wont probably wont be back based on atmosphere. IF the food had sold us....maybe I would. Service was great no complaints there. The place was pretty empty around 6:00pm on a Saturday. Reservations not required. more

Mixed feelings 12/4/2009

Well, I'd like to give this place a better rating based on my entree, but in all fairness there were several disappointing items in our meal. The coconut soup was ok, but it was almost room temperature. The hot tea was cold, seriously. We asked for more hot water and received more luke warm water. Nam Tok Beef appetizer was totally lame; again luke warm, poorly seasoned, lame. Thai iced tea was interesting and good. Chicken Pad Prik was lousy; the chicken was overcooked, sauce was blah. I had the Red Curry Duck and it was really good. The duck was tender and smokey, the red curry sauce was very creamy and tasty. I enjoyed the leftovers too. I might try it again, but not before I try another place. Prices were fair; appetizer $6.95, soup $2.95, duck $16.95, Pad Prik $12.95. Atmosphere was decent, but chilly. Eh... Pros: Red curry duck Cons: Food temperature more

Thai food!!!! 8/12/2008

I go here if I'm too lazy to drive another two miles down University Drive to Twisted Noodles. If Twisted Noodles is extra delicious, this place is just regular delicious. Often my shrimp has been overcooked in meals. Still edible though. But I'd be hard-pressed not to eat a shrimp. The coconut soup is pretty tasty with the lunch specials, but today the mushrooms in it were kind of sad looking. Also, about $2-3 overpriced for what you get . . . and portions of things like Pad Thai could be larger. Also Pad Thai is very sweet, red and saucy. which I don't necessarily prefer, but still good. Curry is a standard curry, nothing very special. Pros: Reliably good thai Cons: too expensive more

A great place all around 7/29/2008

Take your friends, family, date. Not too upscale but not average either. 3/27/2008

Having eaten in this restaurant several times now I can, without hesitation recommend it to anyone looking for a good Thai meal. Good food and good atmosphere (even more so now that they've expanded). A nice place to take friends when they come over to visit and you want to eat somewhere that's a little more upscale than your average franchise, but also not stuffy.\r \r I gave it five stars, but if I could have I would have just given it 4 and half. Mainly because I don't think every dish I've tried over the past year have been uniformly good. Not bad mind you, but some dishes just aren't as good as green curry, for example. In any case, I doubt you will be disappointed. Pros: Good atmosphere, good food... has a great wine store right next to it. Cons: It's Thai, which everyone has an opinion on. So if you've got picky eaters... more

Good food 1/13/2008

You can drive by Thai Cafe every day and not realize it's there. It's a random strip mall. But check out the inside. I went on a Sunday night and it was very crowded; I thought it was a good sign. I had the Pad Thai and it was delicious. The prices were okay, nothing special. The atmosphere was also okay but nothing special. But the food is what counts and it's recommended. Pros: Good food Cons: Prices can be a little steep for that type of food. more

Bad Service, Ok food, Expensive 10/10/2007

SO, like I said the service was bad and very slow. The food was Ok. However, the price is very high for the type of food they serve and also the neighborhood is not that fancy and so no need to charge people that much. Cons: thumbs down more

Ok for Triangle food 9/18/2007

Thai Cafe has a nice relaxed atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive. We visited for lunch and had 3 main courses: Thai Fried Rice with BBQ chicken, Pad Thai, and Red Curry noodle with Salmon. Each main course came with a free salad or coconut soup. The salad was just commonfare greens with a japanese like vinegrette ginger dressing, while the coconut soup was sweet and worth just a try for newbies. Fried rice was fine but the chicken tasted like normal grilled chicken with basted sweet BBQ sauce. Pad Thai was very average with huge amounts of sugar.....quite disappointing. The flavor of the curry noodles was passable (a bit on the sweet side again) but the salmon was slightly overcooked. In all, a very average place, but maybe good in terms of triangle standards. Pros: Friendly sevice, not too expensive Cons: Unspectacular food for the american palate more

The Best Thai Food in the area!!! 8/17/2007

This place is great. We have been going here since soon after it opened and from day 1 it has had the best thai food. Originally, the portion sizes were rediculously big and have since been cut down to nornal sizes (too bad because there was always enough for lunch the next day!!!) The interior is clean and new. The atmosphere is a little stuffy with the snotty Duke customers who need to talk loud enough for everyone to hear them...but if you can tune that out, this palce is A+. It says above that it is not kid friendly....we have taken my daughter here since she was 2 weeks old (literally) and they have always treated her great. I think this place is very kid friendly (they always bring her a butterfly made out of carrots...kinda cool).. All and all..try the food and you will be hooked!! Pros: Amazing food, generally nice service Cons: Snotty Duke customers more

Excellent Thai - Nice Atmosphere 7/13/2007

If your in it for the food, this is the place. Try the cocunut soup and you'll be sold. My wife and I have yet to find a disapointment on the menu. The interior is clean, the service fast, and the food seems authentic Thai. Pros: Taste Cons: Parking more

Pretty decent Thai food 5/30/2007

I lived in Thailand while I was younger, and thought Thai Cafe served authentic and homestyle food. I enjoyed the papaya salad the best, while my boyfriend thought the beef salad could have been grilled a little more, but the flavor was good. Curries and stir-fried noodles dishes were fine too, but I didn't get excited about it. I didn't have any problems with the service, the servers were friendly, the prices were reasonable, and overall had an above average experience here. I think it's a good, casual place for a lunch with friends. Pros: Casual dining, good food more

Bad customer service 4/17/2007

The waiter was not very nice us today. We had a big party and the first thing the waiter said was that he is not going to hold our space for us if everyone do not show up 5 minutes after our reservation time. The waitress messed up couple of our orders. The food was okay, but the customer service was horrible!! more

Great food at a busy little eatery 11/21/2006

My girlfriend and I ate here and both really enjoyed it. They have a vegetarian friendly menu that wasn't ridiculously priced (but it wasn't a generic Chinese restaurant either). The portions were large and well prepared, and the wait staff was helpful and quick. Watch for waits... we got lucky and slipped in before a crowd, but saw that many people ended up waiting after we were seated. Pros: Great food, leave with leftovers, nice wait staff Cons: Crowded more

good thai food 10/17/2006

Great food, great atmosphere. Nice without being stuffy. The food was really good, but a little over-priced. The portions are pretty big and there are a variety of options on the menu. Vegetarian-friendly. And when you're done eating, check out the coffee shop a few stores down! Pros: great food, great ambience, good service Cons: a little pricey for what it is, kind of out-of-the-way more
