Tessaro's Restaurant

My boyfriend and I went to Tessaro's on a Monday afternoon based on the great reviews about their burgers and salads. No joke, this place has absolutely the best hamburger. It is a half pound of perfectly cooked, juicy, meaty perfection. The only thing that matched to delicious burger was the service and atmosphere. Tessaro's is a classic corner bar where the food and people are honest and inviting. We had a great time chatting it up with Suzy and the owner Kelley. Their hospitality was second to none. For luch, we started with a salad and chili. The salad had an amazing, chucky, homemade blue cheese dressing that was super yummy, and the salad was a fresh. The chili had more of a sweet tang to it, which was fine... but I would never choose it over the burger. The burger was served on a roll that actually had flavor and texture...not a piece of tasteless cardboard. The cheese was minimal, but that's ok, it would be criminal to cover up the taste of the burger. Did I say the burger was AWESOME!!! We chose potato salad and home fries as sides. They were ok, but no outstanding. The beer flowed at a great pace and the meal, overall, was awesome. You cannot go wrong if you want a great burger at a super friendly bar! I've been to Tessaro's several times and absolutely love their burgers - to me there's no better anywhere. I also love the potato salad. But...I don't agree with their seating policy. It should be first come first seated! If I'm a party of two and arrive before a party of three and one table opens up - if that table can fit more than two they get the table, not me. I'm forced to wait for a table that won't be ""wasted"" on my measly party of two. The last time that happened I took my business down the street to Dells instead. Absolutley the best burgers in Pittsburgh!!! They are well worth the wait to get into the restaurant. They also have fabulous ""huge"" salads like Elaine ordered on Seinfield. They have several good beers on tap. It is a great restaurant to visit with friends and worth the drive. Take your appetite!! more

My husband and I stopped by Tessaro's on a recent Friday night. We were seated withon 40 minutes (not bad for a Friday night with a Pitt game on) and had the BEST burgers! If you don't like it burnt on the outside (I don't) ask for NO CHARR! I did and they were happy to accomodate me! The place NEVER disappoints! more

Burgers are great-so is the Chicken breast anything(salad-sandwich) Ask for you veggies to be grilled than ask for their honey mustard dressing to dip them in!!!! hmmmm....to die for!!!! more

Quite simply, you haven't had a burger until you have had a Tessaro's burger. More than a mouthful, always juicy, and with a delectable taste provided by the hardwood grille. Some may be initially disappointed by the lack of french fries, but not to fret. The homemade grilled homefries are a wonderful complement to your burger bliss. My personal favorite is the Gourmet Burger with grilled mushrooms, onions, and crumbled bleu cheese. Interesting, for lunch, their version of tuna melt is bar for the best I have had. There are many terrific burger joints and I have eaten in many of them located all over the country. But Tessaro's is unique and no others are like it. I am a chef who has cooked in many kitchens and tasted great burgers before. Tessaro's has a unique kitchen where bugers are butchered and made in the same location. The combination of top cuts like File and Strips combined with Fatter meats make for true Meat flavors that dance on your tongue and are tender to the mouth. The wood grill adds balance and complex layers of smoke flavor to this tender treat. No other bugers come close. Anyone who thinks they have tasted a better buger has not eaten at this place. This is one of my favorite restaraunts in the entire world-and I've been to most of it. They do everything on the menu very well, the staff is always friendly, even though they've been through a few since I first started going, and the atmosphere is great. If you've never been and you live in Pittsburgh, its blasphemous, and if you are visiting, this town doesn's have enough good restaraunts to pass this one up. Its a Pittsburgh original, that has no equal. FYI-expect a wait for a table, the place is usually packed on the weekends. We enjoyed our visit here on a Saturday night... we both had a burger done medium... i will say it seemed every so slightly overcooked for medium, but was still delicious. LOVED the wood grilled flavor, very very delicious! We each also had potato salad,which was fantastic. I did notice alot of kids in the restaurant... despite the ratings that describe it as a poor choice for kids/families. Everyone was very friendly... great place! We'll be back again! I had a steak, ""Pittsburgh Style"". Charred on the outside and red and juicy and warm on the inside. It doesn't get much better than Tessaro's for steak. great burgers, good service, don't plan on eating anything else after you leave, but if you take your kids you may end up stopping at wendys or mcdonalds, due to the lack of a childrens menu, let's move into the 21st century kids need to eat too! more

Go ahead....look up ""hamburger"" in the dictionary. You'll find a picture of Tessaro's!!!!! Yep...it's ""abso-flippin-lutely"" the best burger in town! Huge, juicy and served on a great roll with whatever your heart desires on it. A ""must visit"" for any out-of-towners looking for the essence of Pittsburgh comfort food. more

The burgers are the best I have had in Pittsburgh. My boyfriend lives in the neighborhood, and even the mere smell of Tessaro's wood grill as we are walking down the street makes us hungry for their burgers! I would recommend the bacon blue cheese burger - fantastic! The steaks are delicious as are the chicken kabobs. Yes, the seating is cramped, but everyone is too busy enjoying the great food to take too much notice! I can't understand why everybody loves Tessaro's burgers. The 3 times I've been there, my burger has been dry and overcooked with mediocre toppings. If you want a truly awesome burger, go to the Aspinwalle Grille. more

The seating situation is the worst. If you go. be prepared to become intimately friendly with the people in the table next to you. Honestly, the tables are so close together that you are literally shoulder to shoulder with the people at the next table. Sometimes you're so jammed together you want to ask your neighbor their sexual history for your own protection. This really kills the ambience the place might have. Certainly not the place to go if you want to have a private conversation. The burgers ARE good, but not so overwhelmingly so, as people say.
