Love this store!\r The sales staff has always been friendly and helpful - even days like today when I went in and tried on 9 pairs of hiking boots and took about an hour doing it. When i couldn't find a pair of shoes that didn't bruise the front of my shins going uphill, they taught me a couple of ways of lacing them to avoid discomfort and increase stability.\r Great selection!\r I trust them. They showed me shoes which were very appropriate for my trip and didn't try to sell me the expensive shoes which I would have bought if they had felt the best, but were really way more specialized shoes than I needed. more

Horrible store - I'm not picky, and this was the worst camping equipment store I've ever been to - The staff was really not nice and helpful, especially the manager. After the way the manager yelled at me (first time ever that has happened to me, and really for no reason), instead of buying there, I went tot REI's - such a relief to be in a big store, with more equipment, price tags which don't require haggling, and staff which were actually helpful. more

DO NOT RENT from here. You cannot change or cancel your reservation without paying the FULL AMOUNT!! If you do have to rent, reserve for the least amount of time, that way if you do cancel, you will have as little to pay out as possible. more

A Great Find! 4/28/2007

Not many outdoor/sporting good stores in NYC to choose from. Tent & Trails has a great selection, a knowledgable staff and great prices. I always check them out before I go on my outdoor & camping weekends. Pros: Selection, staff, prices more

Lousy hours & Hit or miss customer service 4/12/2006

I have been in the store a few times. Some days the customer service is pretty good and others they're not so good. I had really good customer service when I came in with a bag from a major competitor and had a very good idea of what I wanted and showed that I was serious about hiking. If you are not sure about what you want then you can get really lousy service. Also the hours are lousy. I work and it is very hard for me to get to the store after work or on weekends esp. when you do not live in the area or have other responsibilities. Pros: Knowledgeable staff, Good variety, Quality equipment Cons: Lousy hours, Customer service, Inconsideration more

I came to this place because my coworkers really love this place. Before heading on my camping trip with my son, I came here to pick up a tent since we were going to rough it. They have a great selection and the staff there was patient enough to go through the pros and cons of each tent they had. I ended up choosing the tent that was the fastest to setup. The prices here were above average, but the items they sell were very high quality. I'd come here again. more

Terrible Store 10/12/2005

I bought a North Face fully waterproof jacket that in fact leaked water all over the place. Obviously very faulty. The woman at the store told me this was not their responsibility at all and that I had to send it back to North Face. In other words, if they sell you faulty goods, they refuse responsibility. I am absolutely disgusted with this terrible store and their disgusting attitude, and I will never shop there again. more

Great selection, prices and customer service 8/30/2005

Went here with my husband before heading out on a camping & hiking trip. The staff was very knowledgable and spent a lot of time helping me in the decision process. The selction was very good and the prices were much better than I've seen elsewhere. This place is a keeper! more

Unbelievable 8/11/2005

First I call to make sure the genre of book I need is in the store. I am assured, Yes, we have that! Then I go in the a.m. (very far from where I live) to look at the books they have. They don't have them. I tried to get people to help me. They were distracted by phones, by their morning bagels, by each other. One person tried to help for one minute and then walked away. Thanks. Thanks for nothing. If this is the best outdoor store in NYC? Pathetic. more

Dig and you may find 8/10/2005

Tent and Trails actually has good brands for almost any gear you'll need from climbing 'beaners and webbing to jackets for every adventure to backpacks, tents and sleeping bags. The overly cluttered store makes it very difficult to find anything, and the staff is hir or miss in helpfulness. The high turnover does nothing to guarentee knowledgable help or a staff that cares. If you know what exactly you are looking for, they can probably help you find it, but i don't recommed "blind" shopping. Their prices are decent for New York City, though don't wait for sales, they are few and far between. more

DOn't wait until you're in the country to get your camping supplies 7/1/2005

If your summer plans call for some camping and hiking, check out Tent and Trails and get outfitted before you strike out and have to hunt for stuff in the country. The sales folks here know what you will be encountering, and can outfit you with just the right items. Don't forget to pick up a small first aid kit and the bug repellent items as well. They are reasonable in price, have a great selection, and have most stuff in stock right there more

Best North Face prices in the city 11/16/2004

Picked up a North Face fleece vest here for almost 40% less than at area stores. When we brought it home, we found a tiny hole, possibly a manufacturing defect. I called the store, they said to bring it in, they examined it and exchanged it for a brand new fleece. We won't go anywhere else for North Face items now. Pros: Close to PATH, Huge selection more
