UNSANITARY, & HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE 8/22/2010

Some employees are nicer than others, but management is THE WORST. I bought a pair of black pants, had tried them on in the store but didn't notice until I put them on at home to wear them for the first time that there were STAINS AROUND THE CROTCH -- very faint but definitely there. I tried to exchange (not even return, I would've been fine with store credit) the pants, with tags still on and a receipt, and they would not accept them because it had been more than 10 days. I spoke to a manager, politely said I understood their policy was 10 days for returns, but that selling pants with crotch stains was unsanitary and exceptions should be made. She was rude and unapologetic, saying that the fact that the pants were on sale excused the stains, and I should just try to wash them. EW! That's like Victorias Secret re-selling previously worn underwear. So gross. I used to shop at Taroo fairly often but will NOT be going back anymore. more

Overpriced, low quality items 4/19/2009

I recently bought a bag from Taroo and noticed that they had a new shipment of bags in stock. The next day, I saw the SAME bag in Chinatown in the stalls where they sell fake Gucci, Coach, etc.. There was no mistaking this bag as it was a tacky silver with zippered flowers on the front. Save your money and buy from another place! more

Shitty Tacky Store!!!!!! 10/8/2008

The merchandise is cheap, overpriced! The clothes are for hookers. The staff is dirty, unfriendly, and NOT FASHIONABLE! You should be ashamed that you call yourself a clothing store. WHO THE HELL WEARS THOSE SHITTY CLOTHES! more

you have to know what you're getting 8/10/2007

Taroo, like Pookie and Sebastian, buys their clothes downtown from cheap stores, sews their own labels in and sells them for much more. I have a friend who worked there and confirmed this. Plus I once bought a skirt at Strawberry for like $20 and later saw it on sale at Taroo for $90!!! That said, both shops are good if you need something quickly and don't mind paying extra for it. Just don't expect that you're getting good quality... more

Love it ..but worth it 6/14/2007

I love the colors and styles they have to offer. Theres a new location in the 30s on 3rd avenue. Great staff, great clothes...but theres a catch. Has anyone taken a close look at the tags on their clothing? It all has the Taroo tag sew on top of a ripped off label. This was somewhat disappointing to me and made me question the quality of these "boutique" items. more

You want "THE ROYAL TREATMENT"..then go with your husband the RICH old men..and shop at Valentino and Prada..If you are that demanding and so negative on suh a great store..As mother used to said: IF YOU HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAID ABOUT SOMEONE AND SOMEBODY..DONT SAID ANYTHING AT ALL..unless it's positive and in good will. more

Disappointed Customer 8/23/2006

I would not recommend buying anything at Taroo. Although they may have cute items for less, or what is considered less for NYC, the managers are not customer friendly and the salespeople do not know the merchandise. The salespeople should not tell a customer that a bag is leather when it is not. I bought a bag there, was told that it was leather and it had a huge rip in the seam a month after using it. I had to go back to the store three times and argue with the manager who told me that since I did not have a receipt, they would not take it back. Another person was looking at a bag in the store and walked out when she heard my story. For those of you who do shop there, keep your receipts and don't expect good customer service. more

Boo to Taroo 5/14/2006

When this store opened in out of the way First Avenue, I thought it was a good thing. But after several visits to this shop, I've just completely avoided it. Given the quality of the clothing and the attitude of their staff AND owner, how they stay in business mystifies me still to this day. The quality of the clothing is not very good, as you will find seams coming apart on the clothing right in the store. There's been times when I felt like I was trying on 'irregular' sizes, as one arm would be a little longer than the other, or I'd feel a pulling of a shirt where the proportions hadn't been laid out right. Everything has a certain kind of tackiness to it, even the accessories. The metal of a necklace I'd purchased started to turn funny and change colors within a month of when I'd bought it. As for the return policy, I'd never felt so guilty for returning a pair of pants even though I was well within my rights, and the store's policy, to do so. Skip this place. It's just not "worth" it. more

Hit or Miss 8/21/2005

If you like bargain shopping for the latest styles, you can try Taroo BUT beware of the quality. This is the type of place where you buy small items because some of this stuff actually looks cheap. I bought a great belt there which looks like I spent $100 on it but it was only $25. Unfortunately, the salesman who was helping me wasn’t very nice. He seemed bothered when I asked him for another size in the belt. more
