An American gastropub done right 6/17/2010

An American gastropub right in our own backyard, TAP is the perfect blend of everything you’re looking for. Both a bar and a restaurant, TAP boasts great food, patio dining in a great location, live music and a penchant for airing all the great sports games of the day. Named for the restaurant’s extensive draft beer and barrel wine selections, TAP has something for everyone, and won’t break the bank either. Their libations range from the usual suspects to interesting blends, including my new favorite, sparkling wine with elderflower and a twist. From their 3 for $9 taco selection (including delicious choices of bbq pork and buttermilk chicken) to my favorite pub burger, perfectly cooked, and served with cheddar and pickles on a whole wheat English muffin, you’re sure to find something to wet your appetite. The burger also comes with a special treat, a shot of chocolate milkshake. While I do like the fries, I tend to sub it out for their beet salad which is fresh and flavorful. Bonus tip: Check-in in on FourSquare: first and fifth check-ins get a free appetizer, and the mayor gets free drinks. Pros: Food, location, parking, atmosphere more

Great patio, good burger 3/29/2010

Tap was one of the first to claim ""gastropub"" in their concept, as the Concentrics people are always good at following trends. They were also one of the first places to feature a burger as their signature item, serving it on an English muffin. But I went back the other day and had the burger, which I hadn't had in a year or so...and I still like it. It's small in size, but they aren't afraid to cook it med or med rare. It comes with one slice of American cheese and a few pickles. I'm not a big fan of pickles so I get it without. But the burger has great flavor, it's simple and it comes with shoestring fries and a little chocolate shake. And the muffin holds the burger just fine... its' not as good as a potato bun at Grindhouse, or one that came from H&F Bakery, but it works. I'm glad they haven't changed it, or taken it off the menu. Pros: Burger on an english muffin. Cons: Parking in that 'hood sucks. more

Bad service 8/24/2009

We went to have a lunch there on Sunday, Aug. 23. The place did not appear to be terribly busy and they had tables available in the patio area. With no hostess in sight we decided to seat ourselves. After about 5 minutes the hostess came, she asked us to leave the table and wait at the bar area. We waited for another 5-10 minutes and were shown to the table with no umbrella, in the full blazing sun. She made no apologies or asked if we liked the table, she just left. Few minutes in the hot sun, and we left this place. Can’t tell if the food is good. We are not going back, I hate to be treated like a nuisance. There are many great places to eat in Atlanta, this is not one of them. Pros: great location Cons: service is terrible more

Bar Food 2/3/2009

The patio is the best feature of this bar (it?s a stretch to say it is a serious restaurant). The food is very mediocre. It's a place to go grab a beer after work, before going out clubbing, or just hanging out with friends. The music is usually loud inside and the multi level set up is disconcerting and makes the place feel small and cramped. It's a young crowd (under 35) and mostly straight but gay friendly. It's in midtown so it is attracts a more open minded crowd than a suburban bar/beer house. Pros: Patio Cons: Food more

Bad Service...Much Better Choices In Atlanta 9/14/2008

We went there on a Sunday evening and it wasn't all that crowded, yet the service was pretty bad. They were out of several things that we ordered, they brought one entree before the appetizers and we had to send it back and the server seemed annoyed. We had our appetizers and then 3 of the entrees arrived, but the 4th never showed (not the same one we sent back). We asked twice and were told it was on it's way, which we took for Oops we forgot. After about 15 minutes the final entree arrived. The food was OK, but there are so many better options in Atlanta. Lots of local pubs and bars have better beer and better service. I expected a lot more from a Concentrics Restaurant. I don't plan on going back. Pros: Nice Atmosphere Cons: Service, Beer Selection and Prices more

Excellent for both food and atmosphere 8/2/2008

Tap is one of those cool places that is easy to go to because the food is great, the people are beautiful and you dont have to spend an arm and a leg, and you don't have to stay up until midnight until the crowd gets good. more

Perfect Patio 8/1/2008

I recently spent the afternoon on the patio at TAP. A group of us just hung out, had some drinks and food while people watching. It was a really great time. I will definitely be visiting again! more

We've Got a Problem Here!!!!!! 7/16/2008

THE MUSIC IS REALLY LOUD. Sorry I raised my voice. I suppose it's due to the hearing loss I experience every time I go to TAP. Can't help it. The music is really loud. I can barely hear my fellow diner(s) talking and that's before, I repeat before the DJ starts up. It's my understanding that the owners think this is really nifty. AOK. Not gonna argue. They just need to know that everybody I talk to says the same thing. TOO LOUD!!! Heard rumors that the neighbors aren?t so happy with the noise level either. So now to the food. Well, dined there around 10 times and in the final analysis I?d say it's iffy. Actually, last evening may have sounded the death knell. I ordered a fish sandwich and it came with a slice of American cheese on it. Did ya hear me? American cheese which it turns out is something they call ?square cheese?. WHAT?????? Enough said people. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to go back there since this episode puts into question all the other ingredients they use. OK, so on the lighter side???? Never had bad service there. Ah?.OK, now I?m done. I think I?ll still go but it will be on a Saturday afternoon from 2-4 and I?ll just drink beer. There?that should work!!! Pros: Bad stuff negates good stuff Cons: MUSIC IS WAY TOO LOUD (sorry to holler) more

Fun Patio, Food is nothing special 7/1/2008

I was here on a recent Thursday night for drinks and dinner. The patio was spilling over with folks having post-work drinks, generating a fun, energetic vibe. The food, however, is nothing special. \r \r My friends and I sampled the fried pickles for a starter. They were sweet pickles, which was unexpected, and not very crispy or flavorful. I ordered the mussels for dinner. They were very small, a bit slimy and the broth was plain and needed some spice. I did enjoy the side order of garlic french fries.\r \r I'd come back here for beer, an enjoyable patio scene and maybe some more of those fries. But I'll eat dinner at home or elsewhere.\r Pros: great patio, great selection of beer Cons: flavorless food more

agree, go there for drinks not food! 6/17/2008

i agree with other reviewers. if you want to hang out, be seen, be in a cool locale and have good drinks, certainly hang out here. if you are at all hungry for anything beyond appetizers, do NOT go here. $14 for a lukewarm/cold cheesesteak sandwich? are you kidding me? and this wasn't on saturday night, this was on a weeknight. my friends got cheeseburgers and they looked small and equally cold. service was mediocre at best, brought the wrong sides out and slow. don't even have tabasco, what a shame. Pros: cool hang out, good brews Cons: service and food mediocre more

Crowded but Great 6/12/2008

Tap is the perfect combination of atmosphere, location and great food. I love going at happy hour, where there is such a diverse crowd. more

Just order drinks - skip the menu 6/10/2008

Good selection of beer, nice staff, but overpriced and the food is sub-par. If you're just wanting a couple of drinks before you go to eat real food - it's a nice spot. If you're hungry, keep walking. Pros: Locale, service Cons: food, food, food more

Tap...Great Piece of Real Estate! 6/5/2008

A friend and I went to Tap because they were advertising a Cinco de Mayo party however when we arrived they only had half off patron...WOW...okay so we sit down and we have the laziest waiter in the place helping our table well they bring us the menu and its dirty and greezy and I am flipping through this paphlet of information trying to find what they are serving today becasue it has brunch, snacks, appetizers, and drinks where the heck are the entree's well with a little help we find the entree's...low and behold the otions are limited and the selction is off the wall...I just couldnt believe the skimpy selection and the cuisine is all over the place. I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy all I can say is they have a great piece of real estate! Pros: Great Location Cons: Everything else to do with this place more

Awesome food, beer, and service 4/11/2008

From the moment we sat down our server, Harrison, was helpful and attentive. He took the time to suggest a couple of beers we might like and let us have a sample before we made our final decision. All his food suggestions were right on, we loved everything we ordered from the goat cheese plate to the pub burger. And when our drinks took a little long to arrive, he apologized for the wait and said it was because there was a large party upstairs. In a world where customer service is lacking, Harrison was friendly and attentive and made our first experience at Tap worth it and we will definitely come back! Pros: Awesome outdoor patio Cons: Hostess stand not very visible - wasn't sure where to give my parties name more

Overrated by far 3/12/2008

A friend and I walked up to the restaurant and upon assessing the atmosphere and decor agreed that it looked like a good hang out spot. We stood at the door wondering if we should seat ourselves or if we needed to wait to be seated (mind you someone was folding silverware right next to us). We asked what to do and he said the host stand was on the other side of the bar. To make this short- the server was unattentive and lazy and the food was pretty good (the sauces were what saved them) but not warm at all. After serving our meals our server ignored us- two other servers came by to pick up our plates. A completely different server came with our checks (this was on a Thursday night after 9:30 PM and they weren't busy at all). Our original server came by to take our payment and that was that. I tipped poorly and wrote a note on my check saying the service was poor. The food was mediocre- nothing to rave about. It tasted as if it had been sitting on the plate for too long (barely warm). The place is somewhat overpriced for what you get and the quality of the food. I would NOT recommend this place and will NEVER go again. Pros: location, atmosphere and decor Cons: food and SERVICE more

Terrible Experience- Won't Go Back 3/7/2008

Its a very rare thing that my husband and I go to a bar or restaurant and only order three things total. Its an even rarer thing for us to order only three things total and have one of them be unavailable. But ALL THREE? That happened to us at Tap. We went in one Friday during happy hour, sat at the bar, and ordered a glass of white wine (didn't even specify a varietal!), a Sam Adams, and a plate of the calamari listed on the menu. Our bartended cheerfully said ""no problem!"" One minute later we were informed that ALL the white wine in the place hadn't been chilled and was hot, but he could serve it to me ""on ice"". Uh, yuck. A couple of minutes later he told my husband they were out of Sam Adams. THEN, after that, he told us that the kitchen ""couldn't make"" the calamari until 5 pm. It was about 4:45. He told us he could give us a plate of the olives stored on the bar. He did, they were terrible, and then he charged us for them. We choked down the olives, iced down wine, and whatever replacement beer was offered, and got the heck out of there. Its unbelievable to me that a BAR would be out of chiilled wine and a featured beer DURING HAPPY HOUR?!?!? And no flexibility to make something off the happy hour menu 15 minutes early? We would have just waited...but...they didn't have our drinks! We won't go back. We're not even that picky, but come ON. Pros: Its cool looking inside, I guess... Cons: No easy parking, no chilled beer or Sam Adams at happy hour, crappy olives when they won't make you the calamari you ordered more

On it's way....!! 2/23/2008

Went for the first time tonight. First impressions: Impressed. Service was terrible. I am not going to go into details. I feel that this spot has a lot of potential. Some food/dishes are ""gastropub"" enough (i.e. calamari and stuffed mush.) and need to be left alone. The atmosphere is unlike any other in the city. Great beer selection (there) and simple food is a must (almost there). Could very easily be my favorite bar in Atlanta. more

Great twist on scallops! 2/6/2008

I've always liked the scallops at TAP, but I recently dined there only to find out they had changed the dish! At first I was disappointed, but I ordered them anyway, and I'm so glad I did. The scallops (big ones) are now served with a garlic and celery potato puree. The combination is out of this world and perfect for the cold weather. If only I could make something like that at home and curl up by my fireplace and eat it! I can't wait to go back and try them again! more

Please avoid this restaurant 1/6/2008

We recently tried TAP on a busy weekend and were incredibly disappointed. After waiting for our reserved table, crowding around the extremely busy but understaffed bar, were seated in a nice dining room upstairs but were never waited upon. A cook finally came to our aid and took our order, after we repeatedly tried to get the waiters' attention, but even then only two of the three things we ordered ever arrived at the table. And when we did try to order drinks, then never arrived -- even when we ordered them through the manager. Instead we had to fight our way to the bar downstairs to get our own drinks. And eventually we resorted to letting ourselves into the second floor freezer to get the beers we're ordered. And we weren't alone ... the tables around us resorted to the same ""self-service"" -- getting our own silverware and busing our own tables because the wait-staff was so negligent. They never even brought is a bill! To say it was bad service would imply that there was some level of serve to measure. Please avoid this restaurant. more
