Case Study - How to ruin a great bar ... 3/24/2005

This was one of my favorite bars in NYC. I left it and two years later it was a restaraunt. Gone was the charm and in was the 'cashin' in' aspect that is plaguing Williamsburg. It was a neighborhood hang out, now I'm not sure what it is. I guess it fits in with that psuedo-Gap that moved in across the street. more

terrific place 10/4/2004

I work near Sweetwater and have become addicted to the place - basically am eating my way through the menu. I bring clients there all the time. Been working in Williamsburg for a few years now and I'm relieved a restaurant like this has come around -- a very comfortable, low-key atmosphere without being either grungy or too sleek, amazing food, a killer bar, and super nice staff. The neighborhood had definitely been missing a place like this before it came around. Pros: great food, great bar, great service more

Love it 10/25/2002

No matter what everyone else says,I still like Sweet Waters...It is still a nice hangout place if you want to listen to Motorhead or Slayer and play a round of pool meanwhile with one of the good known faces of Sweet Waters...IT is still pretty good...;) Pros: long bar, good local crowd Cons: dirty restrooms more

Not much remains of the divey Sweetwater Tavern except for the name, the pressed-tin walls and elaborate tile floor--remnants from the '30s, when the space was a Polish diner....
