I've been here twice. The first time was excellent--it was a tuesday night, uncrowded--and the food was fresh, delicious, and presented well. Our server was a mellow white dude ...

Twenty Years Later... 12/19/2002

This place is great! I used to go here when they first opened around 1982, when I was a student at CU. That was really my first real intro to Japanese cuisine. We used to get pretty hairy on the Sake, and the sushi chef would play his saxaphone later on. My friend got carried away one night and ate a golf ball sized chunk of wasabi, almost lost him. Some great memories here, and the sushi has always been mouth watering. Many a cab ride home from Zanmai! more

Simply the best 8/23/2002

Hands down the best sushi in the Denver/Boulder area. I've been to Sushi Den many times, as well as Hapa, Japango, Sushi Tora, Mori, and a host of others that were recommended, but Zanmai is easily the best sushi I've had to date. Very fresh and bright tasting food, fun/lively atmosphere, friendly service, etc. Expensive, sure, but that goes without saying for sushi...go on Sunday or at lunch times to get the best deal. Beware, it's often crowded...make reservations if your party is big enough. This is overall my favorite restaurant in the area, regardless of style of food...consistent quality time after time. Pros: SUSHI Cons: Often 20-40 min wait, Often loud/noisy more

Sushi Please 8/8/2002

Best Sushi in Boulder, hands down. The appetizers are delicious and the rolls are to die for. Don't expect to go in there and not pay for it. It is well worth the cost. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. Excpet, when a group decided to do saki bombs, then the atmosphere picks up a little bit. There private rooms are great for parties and events. he tables are set into the floor, you remove your shoes before eneteirng and enjoy the ambience. There is no extra cost for them either. If you are going to have sushi in a land locked state, you better go to Sushi Zanmai in Boulder. more

Great Sushi! 8/2/2002

Sushi Zanmai definitely has great sushi! When I moved to Colorado (from the East cost), I thought my sushi days were over. I have been very impressed with the quality of fish. The sushi rice actually tastes like sushi rice, but doesn't overpower the fish. The service is outstanding and the atmosphere is fun. I would definitely recommend Sushi Zanmai. more
