I want to make 4 points:\r First, I think the front office staff has gotten much better, probably taking these reviews to heart. In the past they often seemed more interested in...

I have been going for years and finally decided to change today after one more time of being treated like a valueless customer. I would like to write a positive review because I ...

I've Been Satisfied 1/22/2008

I have been taking my dogs to this vet for about 15 years, after moving from another nearby vet that did not interact as well with me or my animals. On the whole, I have been pleased. The vet care has always been very thorough during regular check ups and the doctors have taken the time to explain things. Two of my dogs have been rescues, not particularly good with strangers, but they've taken well to each of the Surburban vets. About 2007, they remodelled the building and added a lot more space for boarding. I didn't board there before the renovation because it was cages only, but have started to board there now that they have indoor runs. Wait times to see the vet for routine check ups can be very long during walk-in hours, but is much better during appointment times. My dogs have been pretty healthy, so I've only had three "sick" visits. One was a referral to another vet for surgery. Sick visits can get pricey. Suburban gave me options/choices on how to proceed and I chose to do the more

Wish I would have read the reviews first! Bad, bad, bad... 11/30/2007

It was close so we thought, score, this is perfect! Not! Prices were twice as much as our last vet. One of the doctors said, "I don't have time [to help you] right now." Unbelievable, who is paying who for service? Front desk people are nice to some people (return customers, maybe?) and rude to new customers. To top it off the parking lot is very small and difficult to get in and out of. I do not recommend this vet office. more

Excellent care 11/20/2007

Dr. Schrader and his staff have provided excellent care for my dogs over the past six years. Of all the vets I've had in my life, Dr. Schrader is the most knowledgable, helpful, and kind. He always takes the time to educate me and has a great bedside manner with my dogs. His staff has always been professional and helpful to me, even when they are extremely busy, which they usually are. The new facility is fantastic too! I am incredibly grateful for their skilled professionalism and dedication to my pets. -A. Barton more

Never on a Sunday!!! 10/3/2007

For the most part we have received good care there, but if your pet has an emergency on a Sunday, the staff and doctors are in no mood to help you so you had better take your pet somewhere else. more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! Do not go here. 10/2/2007

My mom has taken our cat to the Suburban Animal Hospital for a few years now. A few years ago, around 2003-2004, the vet was great. A doctor there, Dr. Kalinsky (SP?) was very helpful with saving our cat from a medical condition (but now she's the least bit helpful; see below). However, now in 2007, my mother had a horrible experience there. The cat had an infection and other health problems, so my mom had to spend over $1,000 there in one week. Dr. Benham (SP?) was very helpful and caring. She told my my mom that if they had any problems after the cat's initial appt., they should bring the cat in over the weekend - on Saturday or Sunday. So, the cat wasn't eating well after her appt. and my mom brought the cat in on Sunday. The overweight Asian receptionist there was VERY rude to my mother - saying that they don't have technicians on Sunday and that they can't help her. She then went and asked Dr. Kalinsky if they would help the cat, and she was extremely rude as well. She s more

30 years and still the best! 12/26/2006

I have been going exclusively to Suburban Animal Hospital for over 30 years for the care of each my three dogs over these years. I am very loyal to Suburban Animal Hospital, because of their loyalty to the care of my animals. 30 years ago, Dr. Gary Schrader saved the life of my dog, who I had found spralled, listless on the kitchen floor upon returning from work. I will never forget that night; Dr. Schrader chasing me out of the area so he could save my dog. From that moment, I was hooked on Dr. Schrader as a Veterinarian, because I could see he cared about saving my dog. As the years passed, I noticed that Dr. Schrader always takes the time to educate me about the matter for which I have consulted him for my pet. As a professional myself (a lawyer and teacher), education of my client has always served me well; because an educated the client is able to help me better help them. Dr. Schrader is truly in interested in the care of animals, over everything, this is why he takes the time to more

Very Kind, Sensitive Care Putting My Dog Down 5/31/2006

Ending the life of a 14 year old, much loved family Golden Retriever is never easy, but Dr. Shrader yesterday was professional, poised, and thoughtful and made an impossible situation at least bearable. He diagnosed Bentley in easy to understand terms, gave us the difficult odds and costs involved in sustaining his life, and gently provided us advice on what to do. \r \r My wife and kids were very agitated, as was I, and tears were streaming everywhere, but the staff there and Dr. Shrader responded at every turn. They offered my "old friend", as he referred to Bentley, and my family comfort and dignity in the worst of times. more

Fine place 3/13/2006

It's a good place. \r \r My sister and I have used Suburban Animal Hospital for a few years -- for five small dogs, two greyhounds, and two fat cats. Nice folks, good care, open office hours (just drop in). I forget why we stopped going to the other one on Broad St., but we feel at home at Suburban. I think it's their attitude that sold us. \r \r The waiting area is rather small, but that may have changed in the last few months due to what look like renovations. Anyway, I don't care about the size of the waiting area. \r \r My only complaint would be that they don't have appointments (as far as I know), so it's pot-luck on how long it will take, but we've never waited more than, oh, 20-30 minutes. PROS: Walk-in hours, practical attitude about pets CONS: No appointments (I don't think) more

Knowledgeable, Experienced & Caring Veterinarian & Staff 2/26/2006

Dr. Gary Schrader and his staff have been caring for the health needs of my canine family for nearly 16 years. He has particularly demonstrated a great deal of knowledge and experience with my English Bulldogs, which is difficult to find in this area. He is honest and direct with his advice, explaining all of the options, while allowing you to make the best possible decision for you and your loved ones at the time.\r \r You will find he and his staff to be generally caring and considerate. They not only remember me and my dogs from visit to visit, but remember our names. They have shown great compassion with the loss of three of three of my own over the years.\r \r His office is very rescue friendly. I would see no one else. PROS: Experienced, "rescue friendly " English Bulldog Veterinarian CONS: None more

Our family vet 11/3/2005

I'm sorry that other reviewer had a bad experience. I've been with this vet for almost two years now. They know my cat by name and always treat her like their own. All the vets have spent a great deal with me when I come to visit. I am a paranoid pet owner, so I know that I worry about things that are nothing. These vets treat me with respect and have never made me feel silly. We've moved a bit further away, but I still bring my cat here. They are in the process of renovating their building, maybe that is why the waiting room is a bit small right now. more

I thought all vets were nice!! 8/30/2005

We just adopted a puppy and needed to bring his someplace within 24 hrs (part of the adoption). This was the only place that could see us-that should have been my first clue! The place was crazy, way too small a waiting room for so many animals. The visit with the vet was super short, and since we were new dog owners we had a ton of questions-the vet brushed us off and said that many people have had dogs before us and it would take alot to hurt the puppy-what kind of answer is that???? more
