I went here b/c they are supposed to have an awesome frame selection, and are in my VSP network. However the frames are all in drawers, making it hard to browse. A staff member ...

I can see clearly now!!!! 9/13/2007

Went to Studio Optix for the first time being referred by a coworker. We have this insurance which I never used before;needed glasses. Best experience as there frame selection was great, pricing was competitive, the doctors (have a staff of 3 I think?) could not have been more informative. Took there time, were patient and made me an excellent pair that I can now finally see from-other places never gave me an education like this place. They know what they are talking about..Definitely recommending Studio optix for many reasons.\r \r \r Pros: great selection of frames Cons: no parking more

Great Place 9/13/2007

Brought my son in when I was visiting NY at Rockefeller Center. Want to congratulate this superb staff from front desk to the excellent doctor..WOW..they had him wearing stylish glasses and comfortable fitting contact lenses immediately! He was able to see NY as a clear as possible. Thanks everyone you are the best!.\r \r Pros: great frame selection informative staff more

Avoid this doc with shady practice 6/25/2007

I have gone to Studio Optix for an eye exam as well as to order replacement glasses. Asides from having a rushed exam, the doctor didn't listen to me as to how I use my glasses, and as a result prescribed something that was too strong. Subsequently, after not being able to use the prescribed glasses, I had to make a follow up appt, and his staff member called me the day before my appt to cancel it because the doctor is out of the country due to unforseen circumstances. I still decided to walk-in during the same day to see if the alternate doctor may see me as a walk-in - wouldn't you love the surprised look on the doctor's face when he saw me as I exclaimed 'I thought you were out of the country'. Now he had to avoid making a scene in front of the other clients, and of course took me in, but only after I agreed to pay a full price for a new set of lenses after the revised exam. Making customers pay for doctors mistakes is not a way to do business, and avoiding to fix the problem didn't help. I would avoid this guy if you can. Not worth the headache. Pros: Good selection of frames Cons: Rude, lying staff; poor medical style of doctor more

Overcharged, then billed for more 5/4/2007

My girlfriend and I went to Studio Optix to get two new pairs of glasses, and told the staff at Studio Optix exactly how much our insurance company was going to cover for each of us. They agreed, called our insurance company to verify the amount, then billed us for the remainder (which was high, but we paid it on the spot). Later we did some comparison shopping and realized we had paid too much at Studio Optix, but that's life.\r \r Months later, they began billing us for an additional amount. I made numerous calls to Studio Optix and my insurance company to find out why we were being billed again. Studio Optix claimed that the insurance company didn't pay the full amount, but when I requested the records from the insurance company I realized Studio Optix had billed more than the covered amount that we had agreed on in their office. \r \r In other words, Studio Optix apparently overcharged the insurance company and then sent us the bill when the insurance company refused to pay the additional amount. I maintained that this was an error on their part; we and the insurance company had clearly communicated our coverage to them and if there was an additional charge, they should have told us about this extra charge up front. They repeatedly told me that I didn't understand, that wasn't the way insurance worked. Meanwhile the insurance company explained the situation clearly and sent me all the records I needed. We were covered for $X, and Studio Optix billed them for $X+Y, so they rejected $Y of the total.\r \r In the end, a year and a half after visiting their office, Studio Optix threatened to send the bill to collections and I paid them off rather than have to deal with a collection agency. I won't be back, I'd recommend you stay away too. Pros: Stylish frame selection Cons: Questionable billing practices more

Disappointing At Best 4/2/2007

I like the Doctor. But I wouldn't order glasses or contacts from them. The staff makes you feel like they're doing you a favor letting them check your eyes. I've been ordering from them for years because I worked in the building. I actually need contacts now. If the last time I ordered the woman behind the counter warned me my prescription was set to expire, I would have gone in for an exam. Instead they tell me when I need new ones and are all snippy about it. more

Worst service, rude receptionists, hard-selling on frames 3/22/2007

I can't comment on quality of exam or selection of glasses, but the service was just awful. At first, my wife went to get glasses, her prescription was incorrect and they refused to fix it. She ended up paying $100 for new lenses with correct prescription to change in the existing frame (after StudioOptix was paid by insurance). They also gave a runaround for appointments after payment was made, making up fake excuses why doctor is out. After that, I cancelled my appointment. But they got pre-authorization from insurance and did not cancel it. Insurance said that I can call the vendor to have them cancel it - when I did, I got BS excuses that they are too busy to talk to me and that insurance company has to call them.\r Such poor service is ridicilous considering prices of frames and lenses in the city, and lying to cutomers about availability is inexcusable. I'm better-off with lens-crafters. more

great experience 2/26/2007

\r \r As I have just moved to New York, I found myself desperately needing a reliable new eye doctor. One of my co-workers suggested Dr. Cassel and Studio Optix, so I gave them a try & she was right. Not only was the staff funny and able to fit me for contact lenses and a pair of glasses that I could not have been more pleased with, but they were also flexible. When I requested an evening appointment, I recieved no objection whatsoever. I highly recommend Dr. Cassel & the staff at Studio Optix. Pros: Service, Reliability, Location more

Best Eye Dr. in NYC! 2/26/2007

Having dry eyes and astigmatism I went everywhere in the city to attempt to be fit with contact lenses. Well. I finally found the best Eye doctor in Nyc,,,Dr. Mitch Cassel. He has very high tech equipment and immediately evaluated my eyes to prescribe a fabulous soft contact lens that I can now finally wear!. The staff could not have been nicer and the service was excellent! I had my soft contact lenses the same day as they have a very large inventory. The price was very competitive , but I would definitely pay for his expertise?.He knows what he is doing. I highly recommend this place!\r \r Pros: expertise, location, service more

horrible horrible service!! 2/19/2007

I waited more than 3 weeks for my contact lens, I called them, they answered with ""no information from your insurance company yet"". After one week, I called them, still replied to me with the same answer. Then I called my insurance company, I found out actually they just faxed my prescription a few days ago!!!!!! unbelievable!!!!!!!! more

Awful Service - forget it 2/12/2007

Repair done very quickly and professionally. However, the young spanish woman at the front-desk is EXTREMELY RUDE. Simply ignored me for close to 10minutes - various phone calls, typing away on the computer - not even any eye contact. She'd be fired in my business. Go elsewhere. Pros: Quick Repair Cons: Terrible Reception Staff - Rude more

great doc, terrible staff 1/30/2007

Great doctor and a very convenient location if you work in midtown, but the staff is unprofessional and unbelievably rude. Pros: doctor Cons: staff more

high tech optics 6/29/2006

Daughter needed contact lenses and glasses and was recommended to Studio Optix by a friend. Wow!!! What a find, as the doctor took the time to help properly fit her with disposable contact lenses using equipment right out of Star Wars...very high tech and accurate! She loved the doctor and was instructed with the care of the lenses by a very professional staff. Very busy office but I could see why - this is the place! I also picked out some eyewear from a very extensive inventory that was very unusual and looks great. The opticians know what works best, and they care. Highly recommend this store. Value is there for the great exam and reasonably priced, hip glasses.\r Pros: high tech, professional staff, very knowledgable Cons: busy store more

best optical store i've seen 6/26/2006

was visiting ny, lost glasses and the concierge recommended studio optix. not only was i impressed with the service (both the optician and doctor were very helpful in making sure i was properly taken care of) but the eyeglasses were at another level of selecting. i could never find this stuff in my hometown. made me realize what i should be wearing, i got rave reviews from my friends (we are planning on all going back). professional reasonable and friendly service. definitely plan on going back! Pros: professional - knowledgable - stylish and hip - reasonably priced Cons: store can get busy more

Cool place 6/25/2006

Extremely happy I discovered Studio Optix from a coworker, who gave me a great referral. Having eye problems all my life I needed someone who could help with my contact lenses. I'm a difficult prescription to fit, and the doctor (Dr. Cassel was fab,...although my coworker said Dr. Klibanoff is also excellent!) fit me immediately with lenses that were very comfortable - I could finally see! The staff was very professional and knowledgable, and I was impressed with their unbelievable eyewear selection - too hard to choose from the great selection. A must for someone needing the best!! Highly recommended!! Pros: Professional, high tech, knowledgable more

Treat your eyes 3/5/2006

Been going to Dr. Cassel for years. Good guy. Never a rush. Sometimes have to wait a bit since it is busy, but typical of doctor's offices. Great rapport with people. Staff are very helpful and willing to test new styles and change your look. Great selection of frames. Pros: Dr. is friendly, location is fabulous, frame selection Cons: a bit tight with spac more

excellent doctor, excellent staff 3/1/2006

What a place!!! I got the most thorough eye exam by Dr. Cassel, a most competent doctor, who answered all my questions and got me into a really comfortable pair of contact lenses. His staff was superb. They were funny and patient and helped me pick out fantastic frames that I get complemented on everywhere I go. I highly recommend studio optix and send all my friends there!! Don't miss this incredible place. Pros: doctor, staff, great glasses more

Great glasses! Fun staff! 1/3/2006

I just moved to NYC and needed some glasses and contacts quick. I asked a coworker and they suggested Dr Cassel's office and told me he works with celebrities...and I thought...well, if he's good enough for them! He was great with a really relaxed and funny demeanor and he's really perceptive and knowledgeable. The girl who helped me pick glasses was fantastic. She had a fun sense of style and really wanted to help me find the best frame for my face and my budget. The office was really busy, but I was very well taken care of. My contacts came in quick and were shipped directly to me! I highly recommend this place to everyone who asks me where I got my glasses from (and everyone asks!). A really great office, truly a New York gem! Pros: Selection, Great Doctor!, Fun Staff! more

excellent services 12/12/2005

I have been a long a long time patron at studio optix for over 10 years. I have always received excellent service especially from such a busy office. It is quite unusual to find such knowledgable staff with such wonderful sense fo style. more

Execellent Eyecare 12/9/2005

I went to Studio Optix with my husband and 2 children. We all had eye exams - Dr. Cassel was terrific - great manner, especially with my young daughter who was getting contact lenses. The staff members knew the inventory well, and were able to make helpful suggestions to all of us. My daughter was given instructions on how to use her contacts, and became a pro in no time. There is a wonderful selection of well made and very fashionable frames in many price ranges. We all enjoyed the photos of the many celebrities who are Dr. Cassels patients. Highly recommended. Pros: great doctor, extensive selection more

New York Gem 12/1/2005

Went on a coworker's recommendation. Very thorough, engaging doctor - fun stories about celebs he's worked with. Although I'm not obsessed with celeb magazines - still enjoyed headshots posted around shop. Staff works with celebs too. They're in the business of making people look good in their frames. Very knowledgeable, no-nonsense woman helped me choose frames. The first frames she suggested were the ones I went with (I love them!) But she had no problem showing me a dozen more while I tried to make a decision. Also had no problem when I asked ""Where are your cheapest frames?"" A very NY experience. You're in, you're out - they make you look good. Contacts (year supply and mail-in rebate), two free bottles of solution plus contact holders, and I'll pick-up my glasses in a couple weeks. What could be better? Pros: sense of fashion, location, great doctor more
