Stonehill is absolutely top notch. Where to begin. A friend of mine had a shepherd that she bought from a place in Ohio, the poor dog had such bad hips by a year old that it had to be put down. When she was finally ready to get a new puppy, I wanted to help. We slowly began searching for a place with a great reputation so there would be no health problems. She couldn't go through that heartbreak again. After asking every vet, trainer, and GSD owner we came across about where to get a good dog and having 75% of them answer Stonehill, we looked into them ourselves. What we found was an A+ better business bureau rating, tons of positive reviews and a group of people that call themselves ""the Stonehill family."" (I've never seen customers be such a close knit, supportive group. They truly are amazing and a family in every sense of the word.) She finally took the leap and called. She had an appointment a week later. I went with her and my was I impressed. First of all, they have three studs that get along perfectly and can be together without any problems. I've never seen this, and most breeders would never be this successful. A good sign right from the start. The owner was extremely helpful and very nice. She brought out the pups and went into detail about which ones fitted my friend's needs and she eventually settled on her dream pup, Kaiser. One thing that impressed me was that the dogs were guaranteed. Not only that, but my friend had to sign a contract stating she would bring the dog back in the event she couldn't keep her. This breeder is A1! As embarrassing as it is, I called as soon as we got back home and asked to have the littermate sister. They are both 4 now and the light of our lives. My Princess is absolutely stunning and great with my rabbits and my newborn. Kaiser is great too. Of all the last second decisions I've made, this has proved to be the best. I hope one day when I have the money I can return and get another dog from stone hill. The hype is exactly right, they are great dogs! more

Absolutely recommend!!! I have 2 Stonehills. One is 5 and the other we just got a few weeks ago. They are the best, smartest dogs ever. Puppy was potty trained in 2 days and already knows sit, down and come! Our five year old is extremely well behaved and great with everyone. He can go off leash with me and sticks right by my side. Get a dog here and you will not be disappointed! more

Having purchased two dogs from Stonehill I would be remiss if I did not comment. My first Shepard had stomach problems at the age of 7 and had to have surgery only to pass away 5 days later. There were no guarantees with the surgery. I choose my second Shepard from a litter too young to leave just yet and she was marked for us. Yet when my husband went and picked her up, he was told they choose a different dog better suited for us! What! I wish I had come with him as this was NOT acceptable and the kids were so excited that we kept the puppy. How could I say take her back at this point. She developed intestinal problems and had to be put down. U of M told us that this type of problem (her colon had not fully developed) was generally due to inbreeding. Best dog ever! After a long wait on their waiting list, I finally got a puppy from Stonehill Kennels. They asked me what I was looking for in great detail and told me they would call me when they had the perfect match. Boy were they not kidding! It took a few months, but was well worth the wait! The litter I chose from was everything I wanted color, size and temperament wise. I couldn't decide which one I wanted, but Shelly was so helpful and told me about each puppy in detail. She really knows her dogs and after hours of debating with myself(while Shelly waited with the patience of a saint), I finally picked my dream puppy! He's a year old now, and everything I could have ever wanted in a dog.. and so much more! \r \r My friend was on their waiting list at the same time as me, but wasn't patient enough to wait for the perfect match. I went with him to the kennel he got his dog, and boy, Stonehill easily outshines them! These other dogs were small, hyped up, ugly and fearful, the breeder wasn't helpful at all. Stonehill dogs are the complete opposite, and so was Shelly! My friend's dog is older than mine, and is only half the size, and is a total nutjob. He learned his lesson the hard way and will be going to Stonehill next time, as will I! more

Stonehill is the best! The dogs are amazing, and so are the people. I first found them when they visited a family member with their amazing therapy dogs. These people take out the time to do little things like that, and that's what matters most! Anyway, I got a Stonehill boy (after lots of interviewing by this amazing breeder) and he is the best dog I've ever had. Got his hips checked, they're perfect. He's healthy as a horse. He's super smart and has an amazing personality too! Everyone that meets him loves him and we get complimented on him everywhere we go. We're training him to be a therapy dog. Shelly has helped us with that, and has gone above and beyond what was necessary to help us and answer our questions. If you have any complaints about your dog, we must not have gone to the same place! There is nothing to complain about when it comes to this kennel. Stonehill is German shepherd heaven, and I will never get a dog from anyone besides Shelly and the Stonehill gang! more

Frank d 1949. Your post is rude and way out of line. Stonehill kennels has the finest gsd lines in MI. I have three friends that have her dogs, including my pup Gunner. They are all the best GSD's I've seen. Bar none. My male is 16 weeks old and has proven himself over and over again. Extremely smart, loving and Very affectionate. Not to mention his build and looks are amazing. Long story short these GSD's are top notch!! Thanks Shelly!!!! more

I love Stonehill Kennels! 11/13/2011

My parents live in Detroit, and had their home broken into about 15 years ago. That is when I decided to get them a German shepherd. I couldn't sleep at night without knowing they were safe. After looking around and trying to find a puppy and having no luck, we heard about Stonehill when we were taking our cat to the vets office for her shots. We were so impressed with everything the vet was saying that we called as soon as we got home. A few days later we were meeting Shelly and picking out the dog for my parents. Shelly was so helpful and nice to work with! We kept the puppy for the first night and took it over to my parents the next day. After a week we realized we couldn't live without this puppy, but it was too late. My parents were already in love with him. About 5 months after we bought the puppy we couldn't take it anymore. We kept seeing this beautiful, awesome dog and knew we had to get our own. So we did. Our dog was absolutely amazing and well over 100 pounds. Since the first dogs, my sister, brother, and my son have both gotten dogs from Stonehill. My son's female loves his children and it is just awesome to watch them play together. There can be no better family dog than a Stonehill dog. We also have gotten 2 more dogs since our first,and they are great as well. (The old boy lived to be 13) And by the way, we never had a problem with break ins after we got our Stonehill dogs.Our entire family is officially a Stonehill family, and that's how we will stay. Great! 11/13/2011

I bought a female from Stonehill about 4 years ago, and let me just say, she is wonderful! She knows over 20 commands and is just amazing! I actually have an appointment set for next week to get a little boy to keep her company. My Stonehill dog is by far the best dog I have ever had, and I have had several friends go to Stonehill upon meeting her. Their dogs all turned out wonderfully as well. I am just so excited to see Shelly and the shepherds again, and to bring home the newest member of our family! I am sure that this one will be just as awesome as the first. Stonehill is the best!! 11/12/2011

I have had several German Shepherds in my life, some rescues, others purchased and I have loved them all dearly. But I have got to say, that the best 2 I have had are from Stonehill. Shelly doesn't let you just look at the pups and say "oh, that one is pretty, I want it!" She talks to you a long time about you, your family, life, time limits and abilities and then gets a puppy, maybe 2 for you to meet. She knows her pups, you don't-they are all cute and wonderful to meet, but she shows you the one that will fit your personality and life the best, giving you the best dog you could hope for. I have 2 dogs from her now, and 2 that came from somewhere else, my Stonehill dogs are the better of the 4. My old girl is 13 1/2 and my youngest is a 2 1/2 boy at 115 lbs. I have never had a dog recognize their breeder after a few months, except Vladi, he went right into classes that Shelly recommended and we see her there all of the time-most of the Shepherds there are from her kennel. Vladi is filled with so much joy when he sees her, it's incredible; it just proves to me what a wonderful start these pups have and that is a big part of why they are such wonderful family dogs. I didn't start out as a very good trainer, but with the classes I became better and even then Shelly took time to help Vladi and me become a better team. She truly cares and doesn't sell you a dog and walk away, she is always available to talk to. As a matter of fact, before she went to emergency with that broken leg, she took the time to talk to a family that had driven 2 hours to see a dog (not even one of hers, she was helping someone who couldn't keep him) that needed a good home, out of the goodness of her heart. Can you imagine, several breaks in your leg and worried about getting that dog a good home before helping herself? I hope she doesn't retire, because if I have to pick out my own dog, I always pick the crazy one, she has given me such wonderful, calm, gentle, loving family dogs,. All I can say is wow! 11/12/2011

I am now on my second shepherd from Stonehill, and I must say I will never go anywhere else for a dog. When our first dog from Stonehill died, Shelly was extremely helpful, and even agreed to see us and fill the void that our boy had left in our hearts, even though she had JUST gotten out of the hospital after an accident and was in a wheelchair. And it doesn't just stop after you buy the puppy. Shelly also teaches a puppy class at the local training club where she helps us every week to learn about how to work with our new baby.(: She also does wonderful boarding, as well as puppy socials on Saturdays. I cannot say enough about Stonehill and the dogs that are producing. Our boy was over 100 pounds and never had a hip or medical problem in his 13 years. He was just awesome. We couldn't go anywhere without being stopped and complimented. He had such good temperament that we had him Therapy dog certified and took him visiting all over. He was the best dog I have ever owned, although I think the new Stonehill baby will definitely give him a run for his money. Buyer Beware 10/21/2011

On Aug 8, 2006 picked up 8 wk old GSD, puppy weight 8 lbs, told runt of the litter. At 15 weeks puppy put to sleep the puppy still weight 8 lbs, Vet told us the puppy was a dwarf German Shepherd. This is rare, but look up Dwarf German Shepherd on Google. We were given a replacement for this puppy that was born Oct 3, 2006. In Dec 2007 This pup was diagnosed with EPI * Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. These two health Issues are Genetic. This pup is now 5 years old, looks great, good temperament, but must have costly enzymes put in her food. She cannot eat anything without enzymes and this is not a curable disease. With 2 dogs in a row with genetic defects I cannot in good consciousness recommend her for breeding, but she did refund the purchase price on this dog. Pros: null Cons: null more

Great Home away from Home 7/26/2011

We took our two dogs Willie and Toby to Stonehill Kennels for the first time this month and Shelly and crew were fantastic. They have a great area for the dogs to play and we have now found a place that we can feel safe and secure about leaving our dogs...as a matter of fact we are taking them back again today. more

Large & in charge 9/2/2009

I have had 3 German Shepherds from Stonehill. 2 females & 1 male. All of my dogs have had the BEST temperments & are extremely intelligent. For the last 10 yrs., I continuously get stopped by random people who comment on the beauty of my dogs! I would always recommend Stonehill & will ONLY buy my German Shepherds from there...they have a friend for life in me! Beautiful Intelligent German Shepherds 9/1/2009

We have gotten 3 dogs from this breeder and have nothing but great things to say about this breeder and the kennel. The dogs were all intelligent, beautiful and true representation of the breed. The breeder interviews and educates the client to ensure that the dogs all go to good homes. We have boarded our dogs with them and found that the boarding experience was A1 as well. Absolutely Amazing dogs! 11/16/2008

I have had several German Shepherds over the years from Stonehill Kennels, and they have all been wonderful. The dogs have great temperment and they are extremely intelligent and obedient. Not to mention they are some of the most beautiful German Shepherds I have ever seen. The temperment of the dogs is so good infact, that I was able to have them all pass the standards required to become registered Therapy dogs. I have also done some obedience competition with my dogs. They were very good at it. My first two dogs lived to be 13 and 14 years old. I currently have one that is 10 and one that is 6. All of my dogs have lived active, healthy lives. The owner has also been a big help over the years, by being there whenever I had a question or anything. She really cares about the kind of homes that her dogs are going to, and she is very knowledgeable about the breed. Bottom line, I would recomend Stonehill Kennels to anyone who is looking for that special German Shepherd. Stonehill dogs are one of the greatest joys that life has to offer, and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Pros: Wonderful dogs and owner. Cons: None more

StoneHill Kennels Have Wonderful puppies and dogs. I have a lot of her dogs. They and the owner are great. The Owner gose over everything with the person(s) and tell them everthing they need to know about the dog and there Family line and how to take care of them. Maybe you need to get your head check you said you love the dog and you cant see it in pain so take the dog to the vets.. and the owner dose not lie she is a well woman who work hard and long to help every person(s) and dogs out the best she can... she never sold me a dog that I never had anything worng with it.. Great Dogs! Watch the owner. 2/14/2008

My dog is huge and wonderful. He knows over 25 voice commands and several hand commands. I get compliments one his markings and his obedience all the time. He truly is my best friend. Pros: Very Very Very smart and beautiful dogs Cons: bad hips and the owner lies more
