Best Restaurant in Boston! 2/7/2009

I am a regular customer of Steve's - It is a warm, welcoming environment with a staff that takes great care of their customers. It is one big happy family, which makes the dining experience that much more enjoyable. The food is delicious, the service well-delivered, and overall experience a great one. I highly recommend Steve's to those looking for a great restaurant (not to mention, located on Newbury Street itself) - it is a ""must-eat"" site in Boston! Pros: Warm friendly staff, Delicious Food, Excellent service more

Yummy Food here! 10/11/2008

Steve's is a very unique little find on Newbury Street, my mom and I go there every other week because we love it so much! I absolutely ADORE the steak sub on the homemade pita--the pita is positively the most amazing bread, its very soft, yet sometimes crispy on the edges, and the steak is cooked to perfection--its like the perfect philly steak sandwich filled with crisp shaved steak, but with a great greek twist! so much more interesting than a boring old hoagie! Adding onions, peppers and mushrooms is always a must for me! (i find adding cheese takes away from it, but its an option) They also make great chicken kebabs, vegetable platters, and my mom claims the greek salad (with an addition of grilled chicken) is superb! its a very cute little atmosphere--can sometimes seem cramped, but the wait staff is very nice and the food is always wonderful, its also a nice dinner option if one is walking on newbury street at night or for getting a quick bite to-go. This restaurant is just so great because it mixes familiar american items with authentic greek cuisine so people who are into classic and more adventurous foods can enjoy it, and best of all, enjoy everything done well! Pros: Great food, great staff, great service Cons: sometimes cramped for space more

Nothing Greek about this place 4/26/2008

I'm not sure how the rest of the people gave this place 5 stars. I am visiting Boston and since I am so far from home, I wanted to celebrate the Greek Orthodox Easter the right way, thus the decision to eat greek food. Cons: The food is not Greek therefore they should change the name of the place to something more American. more

Be Afraid 4/11/2008

My last visit to this place was not good. Tiny critters in the salad greens and the place was filthy. Tuna in a tuna sandwich was warm and very off-tasting. Tuna is not supposed to be warm. People seem to like the Greek items. Gyros (Greek Spam) are popular. I have to agree with an earlier review that the Baked Lamb was not good. Chintzy, almost meatless lamb shank baked in a tomato sauce that is overloaded with cinnamon and nutmeg. And why does a Greek place make bahklava with corn syrup instead of the traditional honey? I think this place cuts too many corners. It may be really cheap, but the cleanliness of the place and lack of attention to proper food prep and storage make me nervous. Most staff are surly at best. more

Absolutely delicious Gyro 4/6/2008

The other night I had the most intense craving for Greek food. I was in Brookline with a friend and we looked up Greek food in Allston on Citysearch and decided to try a place named Niko's. Unfortunately, Niko's was long gone and we were pretty upset. So we went around the corner for Lebanese food at Shawarma King, which was good enough for the time being but didn't kick my Greek food craving. Pros: gyro packed with meat and just the right amount of tzzatziki more

Best Gyros and more 11/4/2006

A great affordable lunch spot on Newbury, Steve's is my favorite for gyros and other greek food. Good lunch specials, and a VERY friendly wait staff. Pros: great food Cons: busy during lunch more

Awful! 6/6/2006

Service was awful, with a rude waiter. The food was the worst. The pastitsio had way too much nutmeg and cinnamon, and a lamb and pasta dish had very boring tomato sauce with unchewable bits of lamb I had to fish out. Don't see what the hype is all about. Cons: Food, Crowded, Service more

Eat It Up 4/27/2004

Go to Steve's for the wide selection of great food. I have so many favorites that I always want to order too much. The tangy chicken-lemon soup (Avgolemono) leaves you scraping the bottom of the bowl, or cup. The hot beef-stuffed grape leaves (Dolmades) are just as easy to crave, and happen to be covered with an Avogolemono sauce that you truly can not get enough of. Other things you don't want to miss: the greek salad, the falafel, the kabobs, and the gyro. I'm not sure what the deal is with the daily specials menu that doesn't change--the choices are good, so I'm not complaining. The Baklava isn't great, but dessert is not the reason to go to Steve's. With such variety at affordable prices, great people watching through the many windows, and the casually comfortable atmosphere, Steve's is a place that can easily become a regular stop. Pros: great food, quick service, central location Cons: , can get loud more

A Great Greek Diner 4/3/2003

This is a perfect breaakfast, lunch and dinner spot for the value seeking eater. Salads are great as are the Greek specialties and the breakfast is a winner. Good service only make this truly special value. Pros: food, prices, service more

Finally, a good diner breakfast in bbay 2/24/2003

Having had no luck finding a good diner-type breakfast in the Back Bay, I'm happy I found Steve's. Don't expect springs of parsley garnishing an anemic, egg-white-and-chipolte omlette; this IS your father's diner. I had my favorite, the heart attack special (bacon&cheese omlette, xtra cheese) and it was all I hoped for - I think they use real butter on the grill (yum!) rather than some margerine analogue. There's a time and place for good greasy food, and when that time comes around, this is the place! My only knock is breakfast is only served until 11:45am on Sat, 12:45pm on Sun.. I would prefer they serve breakfast until at least 2, maybe even all day. Two of us went for brunch, and the total bill was just shy of $15. Hard to beat the value! If you get a window seat, it's also a good people-watching place. Pros: tasty food, value Cons: breakfast ends early more

Good value 6/11/2002

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, Steve's is a good place to hit. Everytime I have gone, I have always had a good meal. Granted, it isn't gourmet, but for something to hit the spot, it's great. Service is kind of iffy. On most occasions I've had an attentive server, however on two visits, the server seemed not to really pay attention to things like refilling water or checking in with us to see if we needed anything, etc. I would highly recommend Steve's for a great breakfast. Four of us went there and ate for $30 total including tip (and this was for a complete breakfast w/ eggs, bacon, toast, juice, coffee). You can't really find that kind of value anymore. more
