I've been very happy with Dr. Stephens in general. He is a great doctor and really takes his time with patients. I believe he is generally very interested in their health and well being. However, I have had a couple of issues with his office and staff in general. Very recently there was an incident which has lead to the decision to find a new primary care/family practice physician unfortunately. My partner, who was also a patient of Dr. Stephens for the past few years, had a physical scheduled for a Monday at 3pm. Over the weekend he received notice that a court case associated with his job that he had been subpoenaed for had been rescheduled again. He was required to appear at 9am that Monday, same as his appointment with Dr. Stephens. He hoped he could still make his 3pm appointment but was told when he arrived at court that jury selection wouldn't even start until 1pm. He immediately called the office and informed the receptionist (Cindy) that he needed to reschedule due to the situation beyond his control and was told he would be charged a $75 missed appointment fee. He requested that she consult with Dr. Stephens as it seemed unreasonable to charge for a missed appointment when he called as soon as possible for something he had no control over. My partner called and told me what had happened. I immediately wrote an email to Dr. Stephens and sent it. I made a copy and hand delivered it to his office. In the letter I explained the situation and informed him that if he had indeed been consulted and agreed that the $75 fee was appropriate that we would have no choice but to leave his practice Later the next day Dr. Stephens called my partner and confirmed he had been consulted and said he didn't feel he could make exceptions simply because someone threatened to leave his practice. We were both astounded and furious. more

Bad Reviewer of Dr. Stephens failed to mention he/she was surreptitiously using Crack 1/23/2012

I have been a patient of Dr. Stephens for nearly a decade. While my parents have to be at death's door to get an appointment and then wait in a giant illness infested waiting room (an old Walmart Lobby) for their doctor to eventually see them (sometimes a 90 minute wait) - Dr. Stephen's staff will work me in THE SAME DAY if I am clearly in need. Even when this is the case, I never have to wait long - because instead of doing cattle-like volume doctoring he opts to keep his overhead low and staffing at a minimum. I arrive to his well appointed yet modest office on Duval (he moved from a more expensive space wasting office off of Jefferson & 38th near the original Kerbey Lane Restaurant) and within minutes am whisked in for weighing and the medical assistant's pre-interview. Soon after he arrives, he is attentive, and instructive. When something seems amiss - he'll send me for tests. When I have a prescription need that is not readily available form the major pharmacies -he'll send me to Nu Cara, the formularly pharmacy in the shopping center with Zuzu's & McDonald's on MoPac, for a specially mixed prescription. Level headed. Thorough. Well Informed. Affable. Congenial. These are the words that best describe Dr. Stephens. I can only assume that the patient who described him as the "worst doctor" must have been hiding vital information about his/her health, or that he/she did not follow doctor's orders...or perhaps the patient really was doing crack - only thing is Dr. Stephens would probably have intuitively guessed that and would have ordered up tests from CPL to determine the level of substance abuse. Maybe they meant another Dr. Stephens - perhaps that is the answer. A final afterthought : As someone who is highly susceptible to pneumonia and with a family history of prostate cancer, I have full confidence in Dr. Stephen's knowledge and vigilance in regards to my health and well being. My only fear is that singing his praises will cause him to pick up too many patients - but I suppose it is good to share. more

Excellent, caring and curious Doctor 9/19/2011

I have been seeing Dr. Stephens since the beginning of this year, and wished that I had known about him earlier. I have been very pleased with his style-which is to take his time with me-and listen and ask questions. His staff is courteous and has met my every need. more

Debbie is gone!! 10/15/2010

I love Dr. Stephens! I feel very comfortable with him. And everyone should know that Debbie no longer works there. She was very rude and I am glad that she is gone. The new receptionist is much better! more

Dr. Stephens good, Debbie bad! 4/19/2010

Dr. Stephens is sharp. He is on top of the latest medical happenings and typically has reasonable answers to my various questions, even on very recent things and crazy stuff I dig up on the web. Debbie as others have pointed out is just awful. I almost dropped him as my doctor because of her and still may... She really rubs me wrong. My only complaint is that it seems very focused on the business aspect of medicine. It is not a relaxed atmosphere at all. (Partially because of Debbie...) Dr. Stephens always seems to be running from patient to patient and while he does give you proper attention, you get the feeling you are interrupting by being there. more

Great Family Doctor 9/10/2009

I've been going to Dr. Stephens for about two years now, and must say he is a great doctor who is very concerned with his patients. He is always happy to see you and brings a smile to the room. Gets down to business and really wants to help you with anything you are concerned about. I looked at some of these other reviews and noticed mention about the front desk assist... please give her a break, she has to deal with crazy/sick people all day long, wouldn't you be a bit cranky at times? Overall, I have yet to see anything negative from my visits and have only come out with a positive opinion of Dr. Stephens and have already recommended him to friends. more

Dr. Stephen's stinks 7/7/2009

He is THE worst doctor I have ever seen. He does not care about the emotional needs of his patients and he missed my having pneumonia (he just gave me antibiotic after antibiotic) and I ended up in the hospital for 30 days, being intubated and they used paralytic drugs on me and it took me a long, long time to walk again or use my hands. Dr. Stephens is totally unqualified and should have his license revoked. more

Great Dr. 6/10/2009

Kevin Stephens is my favorite doctor I've ever had. He's efficient yet attentive, he's caring and does what needs to be done, his office is very pleasant, and I've never had a problem they didn't help me resolve. more

RUDE DEBBIE 12/5/2008

DR. STEPHENS IS WONDERFUL AND HE IS VERY PROFESSIONAL. DEBBIE, WHO WORKS THE FRONT DESK, IS THE RUDEST, MOST HORRIBLE, MOST UNPROFESSIONAL PERSON I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED IN MY LIFE AND I WILL NOT GO BACK BECAUSE OF HER. POOR DR. STEPHENS. more

Quick and To The Point 7/11/2005

Dr. Stephens is very friendly. He gets what needs to be done quickly. He never makes you feel silly for asking questions and takes everything with concern. If you are looking for a doctor to have long conversations with, this is not the one. However, if you are looking for a doctor who gets you in and out, but at the same time covering all the bases (really -- it's amazing!), he's the guy. I also have to mention that the staff is friendly as well. Friendly doctor = friendly staff. FYI, He just moved. The new address is: 4100 Duval, Bldg. 2, Suite 200 Austin, TX more
