The reason I like this place IS because it is not in your face. You are with your friends in a nice place and that is perfect. more

Unexpectedly amazing food here! Went for drinks but after a few I had the munchies, decided to order and entree and was nothing short of amazed. Check it out! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/13/2012

Yum! I know this place has a great beer selection but the food is AMAZING as well. This is definitely the place for the perfect dinner/drinks combo and if you can eat outside upstairs it will be that much better. Check it out! more

Still don't understand WHY people keep going back! 7/13/2010

Been here a few times with friends and WE had a great time ! Not because of the place or the food but because of the friends. The lightning is so poor that I am afraid to eat because I can't see it. The Wait staff is rude and have little or no knowledge of the food on the menu. Ordered a sausage dinner once and was not prepared for the different texture in the meal. I ask about it and the rude answer I received didn't take away from the fact that it was not explained when I ordered it. I do have to plug the Oysters they were great for a corner Pub in Northern Liberties. Hey ST . . . if you are going to deal with a certain trend . . . do it ! This way normal people can decide before they come in. Pros: Oysters ! Cons: PRICE and Lightning--- wait staff SUCKS more

Great gastropub 6/12/2010

We've been going to the Standard Tap for years and we love it. There is always a wide variety of appetizers, entrees, and drinks available, so everyone (with different tastes/diets) is satisfied. Food is among the best bar food anywhere. Pros: Food, atmosphere more

So, why is it anyone still goes to this place? 4/18/2010

OK. Maybe back when N Libs had limited options, this may have been the place to go. BUT, as a resident of N Libs, I know this currently is the farthest from the truth. WOW. Could service be any worse? I couldn't imagine so. The indifference of the staff is mind-boggling. Well maybe not so much. A greeting ... a hello? No. Presumably staff (if not, then misc. people) enjoying shots behind the bar? YES! We made the mistake of saying, ""Hey, N 3rd is awesome, but ... let's mix it up and go to Standard Tap"". Well, after feeling like we were invisible for WAY too long, we left and enjoyed a fantastic dinner at N 3rd. Guess what? N 3rd was packed and the service fantastic. ST ... empty and awful. Of course, places have those times where things just don't go as planned. Understand that. However, as this is not the first time ... ST doesn't deserve the pass. Give your business to one that deserves it. N 3rd or any of the others in the neighborhood. Owner ... this isn't 2000 anyore. Unfortunately for you, you aren't the only kid on the block. Cons: HORRIBLE service - so bad, didn't even eat more

BEST GASTRO-PUB!!!!!!!!! 11/23/2009

Love it, love it, love it, we've eaten all around, from the US cities to European destinations and the food here is excellent, great beer selection, love the outdoor deck in the summer, and in the winter you'll find us warming up to the fireplace upstairs! Its the best! Cons: sometimes a little loud more

unfriendly staff so rude we had to leave 10/8/2009

we walked in here tonight for a change (we usually go to north 3rd) no one greeted us, we sat ourselves...ok fine. then the waiter came over and asked for our ids before we even ordered anything to drink. i explained that i forgot my purse but im not drinking and he said ""well there cant be any alcohol at the table then"" my friends werent even sure if they wanted a drink but that put it completely out of the question. he came back with three waters and asked if we had questions about the menu...what menu? we were never handed anything! he said ""its up there on the wall"" oh and it was... about 5 feet above our eye level written in 12 font on a chalkboard in highlighter colors with a bright light shining on it. i dont need to get up from my table to strain my vision to read your menu. no thanks! we left and went to north 3rd where we had the best dinner ever!! Cons: dumb rules, no menu!!, cocky staff more

Nothing exceptional here! 3/1/2009

I was on a burger hunt and read some of the reviews ??? I was disappointment in the food, but that was overshadowed by the poor service delivered by a condescending and clearly distracted staff member. Thankfully the kitchen delivered the food without the help of our waitress, as this may have been the most efficient part of the experience. I appreciate the gastropub atmosphere, and didn't expect the service of a four star restaurant, but cannot dismiss the lack of attention as environmental. As for the food--- The standard cheeseburger was well prepared but lacked any exceptional flavor, and the stale bun fell apart as I was attempting to eat it. The burger fits nowhere in the ""Best"" of category. Bartender played some good music! more

Pretentious Staff 7/31/2008

I've visited Standard Tap a number of times. The food is good, the beer is satisfactory, but what is with the staff? With a few exceptions, the staff is surely, short tempered, and apparently part of some elite culture wherein courtesy and patience for others is intolerable. Get over yourselves. You are all deminishing the ambience and appeal of an overall nice gastropub. more

excellent gastropub 2/16/2008

Standard Tap is a no frills, seat yourself first come first serve basis. Beer and Dinner menus are written on the chalk board and the beer list changes regularly. They offer a great selection of draught beer and the food is delicious. They offer a range of salads, mussels and clams, oysters, duck confit, chicken pie, etc. I had the duck salad and fried oysters - both were excellent. My husband had the chicken pie, it was a great comfort food dish. The one down fall is the service, the server we had was not all that knowledgable on the beers or very descriptive when we had menu questions. But we lingered w/ friends and were not rushed to leave. Definitely a good neighborhood spot. more

great food 11/10/2007

I was really surprised by the great food and beer selection. The neighborhood is so much hipper than I remember it. I can't wait to return to try some of the other menu items. Pros: great food Cons: parking can be a pain more

awesome burgers 1/26/2007

As a passionate lover of beer and burgers, the Standard Tap is absolutely one of my favorite spots in Philly. Always a fantastic selection of local brews that are served by the most knowledgable bartenders I've encountered. Just tell them what kind of beer you're in the mood for and they'll do the rest. They've never done me wrong. The Standard Burger literally tastes as if It was made by God himself. It's common knowledge in these parts that this is the best burger in Philly. Even the mushrooms on the burger are incredible! Put it this way, my father loved it,and he doesn't like anything. The crowds usually a friendly mix of local blue-collar and professional types. I've also had many interesting conversations with out-of-towners. Pros: food, beer, atmosphere Cons: no TV more

Awesome, awesome, awesome for weekend brunch. 11/18/2006

So maybe you're not feeling so well on Saturday or Sunday morning, and all you really want to do is chill out with some excellent traditional american brunch fare and maybe have a hair-of-the-dog mimosa. Standard Tap is the place to do it: not too bright, not too loud, and not overwhelmingly busy, with food that's fresh and flavorful without trying too hard. Pros: Dog-friendly and kid-friendly (with a responsible clientele, so no worries) more

Bob and Jerry Made My Night! 2/23/2006

Last night I stopped by because i had read that Capitol Years, a band that i've been trying to catch for a few years now; was playing on Wednesday. Well I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent service from the upstairs bartender where I chose a new wonderful beer with a catchy name called Heavyweight Lunacy. The name alone was reason enough to like it. The highlight of my night was meeting 2 cool cats sitting at the bar by the name of Bob and Jerry who entertained me with colorful conversation. As it stands I showed up 1 night too late to see the band so I had a seat and had a wonderful time anyway. I must admit the ugly guy ratio is still alive and well at Standard Tap but the beer, the ambience and the bar menu was was right on! Pros: service, beer , eclectic Cons: no eye candy more

Tap Dancin' in No Libs 2/7/2006

This place has it all...Incredible burgers, good beer- All the makings of an excellent pub. Seems to be the epicenter of NoLibs Life- Total Score- 93 Pros: Food, Beer more

Yummy food 1/21/2006

Its a great places for a lazy drink and some great food. more

All the beers taste like Miller?!?! 12/29/2005

Wow - that was a harsh review. I've been going to the ""Tap"" for years and have never had a bad experience there - suit or no suit. We've even taken my parents there (in their 70's), and while the jukebox can be loud on a Saturday night, service, staff and food have always been excellent. Food (yes - the menus are on blackboards) consists of bar standards, as well as some more adventerous items (venison, whole fish, buffalo etc.). The menu is fairly evenly divided between sandwiches, entrees and salads. Beer is all local to the PA/NJ/DE area. You should always be able to find some Victory, Dogfish Head, Yards, Sly Fox, Flying Fish etc. beers on tap. Taps are always fresh and cleaned religiously. I dare say that none of those local beers even comes close to tasting like Miller (does Miller even have flavor?). Pros: Food, Beer, Service Cons: music can be loud more

User review by sallypotter 12/19/2005

upstairs bar is best however, stay away from the upstairs dining area ... one of waitresses was rude as hell. excellent food and beer - classic. more

Great food and ambience 1/30/2005

The ""Tap"" is a great Philadelphia and neigbourhood treasure. The place doesn't take reservations, so just walk on in, find a place to sit and park yourself. The kitchen serves until 1 AM, so there's always something good on the menu. About 1/3 of the menu changes daily with the ""constants"" that always seem to please like Chicken Pie, Beet Salad, Double or Regular Standard Burgers along with some type of meat and seafood/shellfish. Service is friendly and unhurried, so relax and unwind. There is an upstairs dining room and bar along with roof deck when the weather is warm. Bartender(s) are real characters in their own right and will serve you food at the bar if you wish. I love coming here at least once a week to eat, drink and enjoy the scene. You will too. Pros: great ambience, Food, Beer selection Cons: no reservations, Busy Sunday Brunch more
