Worst meal of my life! 8/30/2009

One star is too generous for this place.\r Our dinner experience was something out of a sitcom. Terrible doesn't even begin to describe. We waited twenty or so minutes before they took our drink order, then another half an hour before they took our food order. Both for drinks and dinner we had to flag down the waitress. The meal took over an hour to come out and finally did after we asked for our check and told the waitress we were leaving. It was not worth the wait. Much of the order was incorrect (we didn't send it back for fear of how long it would take to come back out) and the rest was over cooked and bland. I think they may have started cooking the seafood the day before. \r We told both the owner and the waitress that we were not happy with our service and both became extremely hostile and defensive. The waitress told us that she was very busy (there were about 15 people in the place including our table of six and two servers) and the owner demanded to know what we wanted. Just three hours of our lives back. \r I wouldn't go back if someone paid me. Pros: Nothing. It was awful. Cons: Food, service more

I'm not a fan of the crowds and the prices at Norton's, so I always go here. Great old-world atmosphere. The staff are some of the nicest people you'll find in town. Their beer selection is outstanding (high-octane Belgian Beer=Get a Cab or walk) and I have yet to be dissapointed with the food. more

Great food, great service, great choice! 10/13/2007

We went to Red Wing for their annual arts festival and randomly stopped here for lunch. It was packed due to the arts festival so we had to wait about 30 minutes, which isn't bad since we've waited much longer than that for a table at other places. When we were seated, our table was in a secluded section of the restaurant which was really nice to sit down and be able to chat. Our waitress was WONDERFUL and brought out free samples of beer when we asked what some of the foreign drafts tasted like. We ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and Garlic Cheeseburger; I opted for French Onion soup on the side rather than the salad. My boyfriend says the bacon is the best he's ever tasted - I tried it and agreed, it was filled with flavor. My Garlic Cheeseburger was phenomenal. We were both very impressed with this restaurant - this was the best food we had tasted in a long while at any restaurant, which says a lot since we dine out at least once a week in the Twin Cities area. Definitely recommend! Pros: great service, awesome food, fun atmosphere, cozy location more

Incredible Experience 6/14/2007

I have a chance to visit Red Wing approximately six times a year. The highlight of each visit is dinner at the Staghead. The food is always exceptional and the wine and beer lists suberb. I was mortified by the negative review from stoner1971 until I actually read it. Then it dawned on me that fine dining to that young man must come in the form of yellow arches. The Staghead does not serve any food from a deep fryer, they actually prepare it fresh. They have never had coleslaw, ever (I called and asked the chef). The Staghead is not kid friendly with respect to the kind of foods served, however, if you care about feeding yourself and your children delicious food, you will be highly pleased. Pros: Wonderful warm ambience Cons: Small, only seats about 75-80 more

I'd like a burger & ?????? 10/18/2006

went in at 230 on a Thursday me and the kids. didnt't read reviews before, we were walking around Red Wing, and happened upon this place in the older down town area. has a nice beer selection and a wide variety of food. ordered 3 burgers, menu says 6.95 topped as you wish, bacon $1 more. were told we have a choice of soup, salad or coleslaw. soups were creamy broccolli, french onion or some chickew\rice + some spice I can't remember. not wanting an appetizer we skipped the soupsalad. my son asks for coleslaw. waiter coms back ""out of coleslaw"" ""no problem just skip that too."" burgers come out. yep for 6.95 you get the burger & bun. they dont have a fryer, and apparently have no room for a box of potato chips either. it was only a 1 time trip so no big deal but when you have competition like they do I wonder how they survive. must be the coffee lovers keeping it afloat because it certainly can't be the food... Pros: nice street view Cons: stinks, food only o.k, no side items more

A supreme dining experience 11/2/2005

I have had the opportunity to dine at the Staghead restaurant in the beautiful town of Red Wing on multiple occasions. My experience everytime was excellent and up to par. The service has always been very accomodating, the food and drink is absolutely amazing, and the ambience is very relaxing. I have met the owners and they are wonderful people. I have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. You receive execellent quality food for the prices that you pay. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone ready for a supreme dining experience. Pros: Excellent food, Great wait staff, Wonderful ambience more

Great day in Red Wing 11/2/2005

We had a wonderful experience at the Staghead during the Art Festival..it was busy but well worth the wait..the owners were extremely entertaining while we waited at the bar..and offered us great advice on shopping and activities in Red Wing. My pepper encrusted steak was delicious and the shrimp scampi was a huge portion the shrimp was fresh and perfectly cooked. Wonderful, friendly warm atmosphere we can't wait to go back.. Pros: Excellent food, Friendly staff, warm atmosphere Cons: Busy more

Not Worth It 10/9/2005

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. We waited far too long for service, and our waitress was MIA most of the night. The service was horrid, the food was inedible. Our dinner salads were a pathetic combination of iceberg lettuce with slivers of red onion and tomato, and a lone kalamata olive. It looked like they had dropped it on the floor before bringing it to the table. I ordered the filet mignon, which was the most expensive entree on the menu. It was fatty and gristly, and resembled rib eye more than filet. I mentioned to both the waitress and the owner that I was unhappy with my meal, neither made any gestures whatsoever to correct the situation. I have NEVER had such a horrible experience at a restaurant, and it disturbs me that the OWNER of this establishment doesnt care if she makes her customers happy. Cons: No Customer Service , Bad Food, No Customer Service more

Prima 7/7/2003

Located in Red Wing, a small town with little in the way of cuisine, the Staghead is a gem. They serve excellent food (I had a salad with chicken, pineapple, nuts on a bed of greens, my wife had the spaghetti) and have a spectacular selection of draft beer for such a town of only about 15,000. Expect to see Maredsous, Bell's, Big Sky, Pilsner Urquell, Ace Pear Cider, etc... They also have a wine selection for those who don't enjoy specialty beer. The ambiance is very cozy, a long semi-dark room with brick walls and artwork hanging about. It has a tin ceiling and hardwood floors which can cause it to be a bit loud when busy. This place notes themselves as having ""No Ashtray's, No Burgers"", so sorry smokers, you'll have to step outside. Pros: ambience, beer selection, good food Cons: a bit pricey, can get noisy more

Nice Atmosphere 12/2/2002

Very comfortable atmosphere. The wait proved too long so we went ahead and ordered at the bar. I had the Lasanga which was excellent, but at $14 I would have expected some side vegetables. My wife had the Polenta which was good but came with a poor selection of side items. Basically the Polenta came on a huge bed of salad. This right after the salad. Seems like they had too much salad back in the kitchen and had to find a way to get rid of it. Was the vegetable chef sick that night? Pros: Atmoshere, Beer Selection Cons: Poor Side Dishes more
