No lie, I can't live without this stuff. I go out of my way to get gelato from here. Try this combo: hazelnut and blood orange. You won't be disappointed.

Rude, snobby, and condescending = Sellwood Staccato Gelato 6/8/2011

My family and I live very close to this establishment and, on occasion, we stop by for a treat. However, the last couple of times that we've dropped in have been infuriating, because we feel that we just paid to be treated like second-class citizens. Don't get me wrong, not all of the employees are rude--there is one girl that is very nice. There is, though, one woman that is so bitter and rude that we vowed not to go back--and to top it all off, this woman is the owner! On a side note: their products are decent, but not worth the rudeness that comes from behind the counter. more

Snobby servers 4/14/2011

I love the gelato and the colorful surroundings but the staff at the NE 28th ave and the Sellwood location are snobby. I took my 2-year-old to the Sellwood location and felt as if we were treated like second-class citizens. No smiles. Didn't feel very welcomed. The fact it happened at both locations is interesting to me. more

Gelato is great, even when it's cold 10/22/2009

My wife and I are regular customers of the Sellwood shop and while I have to admit that I do not normally share her sweet tooth...I have been won over by the variety of gelato flavors (and perhaps the occasional doughnut). We do enjoy the summertime when we can sit outside with our dog but it's also a great place to hide from the rain, have some tea, and do a little remote work with the free WiFi. Pros: Sugary Goodness Cons: It disappears when I eat it more

Just can't get enough! 10/21/2009

I have been traveling to Portland on business for years and I have a thing for gelato. Every time I make it to PDX, I go out of my way to visit this nice little shop (I hear they have another location as well... haven't been there yet). I chatted with one of the owners (I think her name was Sarah) one morning I was there. She was very nice and quite friendly. We talked about Portland and how nice it was there. It felt very warm , welcoming and casual. Very Portland indeed. The staff there has always been pleasant to me.... And most of them fairly easy on the eyes. I love the tried and true favorite flavors right along with the new and somewhat seasonal offerings like Thai iced tea or Lavender. Pros: best gelato plus coffee and doughnuts! Cons: in a different state. more

a lotta good stuff! 10/21/2009

my husband and i love staccato gelato so much that we come all the way down from vancouver. staccato was the first place i ever tried gelato, back when it first opened, and it has become the standard by which i judge all other gelato shops. but none have come close! i think the gelato there has the best taste and texture, and it's a fun place to just sit and read and hang out. i also really like the artwork. Pros: fresh flavors that actually taste like their ingredients Cons: i don't live close enough to get there often. more

Worst Treatment Ever 7/28/2009

I can not believe how rude the staff is here. I have been a loyal customer since I moved to the neighborhood 4 years ago. I will no longer patronize this place. Cons: Rude staff more

Not So Rave a Review 7/16/2009

Officious, condescending and unfriendly. I won't be going back, regardless of quality of product. Employees should be happy to have local clients who come again and again, but I can't recommend them when they are arrogant and obnoxious. Pros: Three blocks from home Cons: Won't accept any bills larger than a $20 more

Really Rude! 3/1/2009

I have been coming here regularly since I started working two doors down and I think the store is cute and the product is wonderful and the staff has been really friendly up until now. more

Prior reviewer obviously has a personal bone to pick.... 1/14/2009

I've only been to this store once, and have a fairly neutral opinion, but I am very disturbed by the prior reviewer's tone and stance...sounds more like a disgruntled former employee than a fair review (and violates this site's standards!! (Start your own store and see how difficult it is!) more

Best Place for a Hot Day! 9/27/2008

When I go to Staccato Gelato I think, ""YUM!, Ice cream!"" My favorite flavor is Pumpkin,Marion berry, Lemon and Raspberry. My most favorite is Chocolate!! When ever I go it is usually 70% or more! I love going there on Hot days!!!! Pros: Makers of the Ice cream! Cons: Completely nothing!!! more

Like Sellwood store 2/13/2008

Their gelato is amazing, and I love the donuts. New Sellwood location is really nice, and they have great bacon waffles on weekends! YUM! Pros: Creative flavors, new flavors often Cons: Donuts are only on weekends... and I'm addictied! more

Excellent 10/21/2007

The gelatto is great. I prefer it to Mio and their doughnuts are the best cake doughnuts I have ever had. Pros: Doughnuts and Gelatto more

Not so great 9/4/2007

I went to school around the corner from Staccato. It was the first place that I tried Gelato, so I liked it. But once I tried Mio, I realized the difference in quality. Mio Gelato obviously takes their time to perfect their gelato, and though they may not have ""cool indie paintings"" on their walls, they put their effort into the quality and appearance of their product. Staccato doesn't seem to understand the concept of consistance. Also they provide too few choices. more

Good but not Best 7/17/2007

It's appropriate that Staccato was the first gelateria in Portland: no place has more Portland character. The funky, bright room with squiggly lines and multi-colored dots matches the fun and interesting flavors of gelato on offer. The only problem is that it's the least consistent on quality in this survey. Pros: fun interior Cons: gelato consistancy more

Best Gelato in Portland 7/9/2007

Can't figure out why the rating for SG is so low, with so many fans rating it so high. MY favorite gelato in Portland, the donuts are delicious, and the espresso is fantastic. Can't recommend highly enough, go NOW! Pros: Fast, delicious, and friendly! Cons: Not open on Mondays? Boo! more

good stuff 7/5/2007

the gelato is good and the doughnuts are even better (try ginger or guinness when in season). i live very close to this place and have to limit my visits to avoid becoming a fat slob. Pros: the food Cons: N/A more

Memory Buster! 6/25/2007

This Laurelhurst mainstay has expanded once and I really wouldn't mind seeing them take over the world. Actually, knowing the two sisters who started the business and who actually worked there back when. This place has charm, sass, and hands down the best gelato in town. Pros: Near universal great food. Cons: Only one location more

Good, but Mio Gelato is better 2/17/2007

Many reviews say that this place is better than Mio Gelato, but maybe they are talking about the only Mio Gelato listed on Citysearch, which is the Pearl District. I am speaking the other location of Mio Gelato on NE 15th, near the Lloyd Center, next door to Foster & Dobbs. I have never been to the other location. Pros: Good place to stop if you are in Laurelhurst Cons: nothing to write home about more

I scream . . . you scream . . . we ALL scream GELATO! 11/3/2006

Ever get the feeling that you want to try it all? Well, this is a little spot where everything tastes so yummy that you'll want to have a 10-scoop cone! Very good texture to the gelato, and the freshest berrys in season make this a truly delight indulgence. If you've not tried gelato it's a nice alternative to ice cream. The hazelnut and chocolate -- OMIGOSH. A must try. They do offer sampling, but I always feel guilty because there is usually a line of people and I don't want to make 'em wait. The vanilla is very creamy, but not heavy. The flavors change so it's always fun to see what they have included to their rotation. I was so glad to see them remodel a year, or so ago. They expanded which is a good sign that I'm not the only one liking it! There are a few bistro dining spots up and down the street from Stacco Gelato. My recommendation is to patronize them and then have desert here!! A nice double-scoop and a stroll around the block make a very nice culinary adventure. Pros: A good excuse to go into Laurelhurst Cons: Too far from my house more
