The food here is good, but certainly nothing amazing, and it doesn't explain the massive groups of people who are always here. Neither does the ambiance which tries to be trendy, but ends up having people feel packed in, and has a kind of cheap feel to it.
The major thing that works in Spice's favor is that the food is cheap. At lunch, $7 buys you an entree and an appetizer, which is a great deal. Dinner isn't too pricey, with entrees at around $8.00, and appetizers running up to about $5.00. It's still a cheap dinner spot, but the best deal is at lunch. For dinner, there are better places to try.
