Unlawful Towing? 1/20/2011

I am very disappointed with this whole experience. My daughter is a college student in the Austin area and her truck overheated on 35 Friday night. It was pulled totally off on the shoulder and was not impeding traffic in any way. Thinking I would do the right thing, I called 311 per the TDOT's instructions to issue a report and let them know we would have our repair shop pick it up first thing in the morning. The vehicle was towed in less then an hour. I suspect that Soutside was listening to police scanners and heard this. I see cars on the side of the highway all the time ( and just did after dirving down there the next day!). more

Southside Wrecker Inc. is run by an ex police officer James New... who flases his badge to intimidate... 1/29/2009

I had my car towed on a Saturday night near downtown. I picked up my car the next day after paying $171.65. Drove my car home..parked in my driveway...came outside 4-5 hours later to find all of the oil in my car was leaking out and down into the street. Wanting to make sure this was just not a coincidence I took the car to my mechanic. After inspecting the damage, my mechanic confirmed the damage to the exterior of my oil pan looked like damage directly caused from a bad tow.\r \r I took pictures from where my car was towed from. I took pictures from my car leaking oil in my driveway. I also took pictures of the damage under my car.\r \r After talking with many people about ""Southside Wreck"" I was warned that they were very hard to deal with. I calmly drove a different car to SouthSide Wrecker and asked for a ""Damage-Loss Claim"" form. They insisted on all of my information. The first line on the form read..""Southside Wrecker, Inc. will normally Video vehicles at scene impound for both damage and property in the vehicle. The vehicle will be filmed again upon reaching the storage lot"".\r \r I did not want to give them my information in fear of them ""losing"" or destroying my ""Video."" I asked for their insurance information and was told to ""get the F*&^ out of there office, you are full of S*&T. Get out or I will throw you out,"" said James New.\r \r All of that for asking for there insurance information.\r \r As the office staff were moving me toward the door. James New, the man I was speaking with, flashed his police badge and told me I was trespassing and he would have hauled away in cuffs.\r \r All this for asking for there insurance information.\r \r I left.\r \r I have filed a police report with the A.P.D. but it seems to be going nowhere.\r \r If you have problems with this company...PLEASE MAKE NOTE ON THIS WEBSITE AND AUSTIN CITY SEARCH!!!\r \r SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THESE PEOPLE! Pros: At first they seemed nice as a tow company could be. Cons: After they new they could have damaged my car... I have never felt so threatened and helpless. more

this was my first tow. I have heard of illegal acts with this company before and it finally happend to me!\r I parked downtown in an empty lot on a tuesday night that had NO SIGNS or any evidence of paid parking, etc. I would have been happy to pay the $5 or whatever it would cost to park. When I called to see WHY I had been towed I was told by the extremely unprofessional receptionist that it was because I parked in a valet parking lot. Again, no sign - and I would have been happy to pay valet. Basically just lies to collect money. Lets not act so surprised right? more
