This club was pure heaven, even for a straight woman. Everyone was so nice, accomodating and made me feel very comfortable. Dance music & dance floor was incredible and the whole vibe was awesome! I danced the night away and didnt even realize it was after 2 am...the club closes down at 5 am on Saturdays. FUN FUN FUN Pros: fun people , great dance floor, everyone accepted Cons: crowded more

Better every time 9/18/2005

It has been a year since my last review and I have seen a lot of changes. New management is in place, and morale and great bartenders are leaving swiftly. Yes, they have the lights, the fog, the line of people. I think they need to make some changes.......and fast....before they lose it all. Pros: Ambience, exciting, ever changing more

A liberating Utopia for All 9/6/2004

I am not gay/ lesbian, but my friends suprised me here over a year ago, my mind was blown away! A place you feel comfortable to be in your own skin and be accepted as you are, what ever your choice. The light show is fantastic and the DJ keeps us moving, and knows when to make a change in pace. The service is great. South Beach is a great experience one and for all. Where r the latinos on Saturday Night? 8/24/2004

For sure the latino gay man would rather go to Inergys then South Beach on a Saturday Nights, why? Its simple becouse on Saturday nights South Beach plays nothing but techno, dont get me rong I love techno, but more then five hours of it, it can get pretty boring. I think its cool that they already gave the latinos Wednsday Nights, becouse trust me I go almost every Wednesdays, and I have alot of fun, its such a nice, well built very creative club. All im saying is that they should try to throw in some sapnish music here and there on Saturday Nights. Other then that South Beach Roks!!!! more

One of the top 5 gay clubs in the USA 12/21/2003

These guys have their act together. They lowered to cover on weekends and even give you 30 minutes on Fridays and Saturdays to get in free. Drink prices have come way down-Thursdays are free and $2 drinks. The biggest DJs on the Circuit play for big events. Tracy Young has kept us there until 5am both times she's been there. Wednesdays are Latin and it's a very sexy crowd and feel. The lighting effects and sound are top notch. I've done all the big clubs in Miami, NY and LA and this place is on the same level if not higher. The prices are very reasonable-nothing like the rest of the country or even downtown Houston. Pros: Special Effects, Pricing, Attractive Crowd Cons: Restrooms are crowded, Valet can be slow, sometimes too crowed more

Friday's Are Great 9/14/2003

Not sure about other nights here but Friday's are fun. It's one of the few gay clubs i've been to that is actually busy on a friday night (SF and NYC don't have sucessfull Friday night gay clubs). The energy is typical for dance clubs in this genre. The interior is shiny and modern. Roomy. Having a front room adds to the atmosphere with a nice place to chill. If you are looking for a dance club that is a step up from some of the other GLBT establishments, South Beach is the place. Great ambience, sound system, drinks and laser light show. South Beach is great for meeting with friends, having a few and kicking up your heels on a high-tech dance floor with one of the best sound systems and laser light shows in town. Improvement at SoBe 7/26/2003

South Beach has improved so much over the past months. The staff is friendlier and more attentive now. They've lowered cover (at least for the Summer) with drink specials that make a good time at SoBe more affordable. The building and surroundings are still FABULOUS for a dance club. With the new laser system, the place is just off the chain. In my opinion, the best music is on Fridays as Saturdays have a more industrial flavor. One of the BEST 4/2/2003

We went to South Beach on a Friday and had one the best times my friends and I have ever had in Houston. The place was jumping, lots of hot guys, great music and atmosphere. We have no complaints with service or anyones attitude. It was alittle warm on the dance floor that made us leave and go next door to cool off. Great place BUT.... 1/17/2003

Most awesome lights and sound system in town. Too bad the guy running the lights is either lazy or more interested in hooking up than working... Another neat feature is the Kryogen blast system that cools the dance floor in a thick fog once an hour (first club in Texas to have it). HOWEVER, the rudest bartenders and staff I've ever encountered. If they ran this place well it would blow away it's major competitor down in Midtown. But instead you have to deal with attitude and weak drinks. Even though SoBe has the most awesome decor and facilitity, RICHS IS BETTER. Addendum: visited again on 01/17/2003 and had a MUCH better time. This truly is the most impressive dance club in town - probably ranks up there with most any other club in the country. Alice in Wonderland in Houston 1/15/2003

I love this club! I've been there quite a few times, & love the music & the freak shows going on over on the dance floor!! They have the Frozen smoke that comes from the ceiling & goes all over the dance floor - you can't see ANYTHING! Everything turns WHITE! They've always got the hot "J.R." dancers putting on a really good show, too. It's a must-see for the gay community. Have fun - enjoy! Never again 11/20/2002

I hated this club! The waitstaff was very unfriendly and the people at the door looked at me like I was from another planet. The overly techno music made my head hurt and the drinks were too weak. Overall, I got the feeling that becasue I wasn't the right color, I wasn't welcome. Call a spade a spade. Thanks. more

this place is just plain awsome!!!! from the bars to the dance floor, to the rest rooms. the bar tenders are always nice, and it doesn't take a long time to get a drink. I would recomend this club to anyone (gay or straight) more

Great place to dance and cruise 10/17/2002

Other than the high cover charge, SoBe is a great place to dance to the latest club music -- the crowd has a good mix of all kinds of people, though it does cater more to the 20-30-something crowd than the 40+ crowd. Still, I've seen people of all ages, races and persuasions here and most seem to be having fun. If you're just looking for a great place to dance to club music, SoBe is it (esp. on Fridays and Sundays). If you're looking for cheap drinks, want to be able to carry on a conversation without shouting, or would like a less party-driven crowd, try JR's/Mining Company or Pacific Street. Pros: dance floor & music, cold-fog blasts, clean restrooms Cons: no/few drink specials, high cover charge more

  • The Scene
    Scenesters are flocking to this racy club for the inexpensive cover charges and the state-of-the-art laser light system. Upon entering, relax at the beautiful front bar and allow the scenes of adult videos flashing above on the flat screen video monitors to put you in the mood for a hedonistic evening. Off to the left of one of the two well-stocked back bars, male exotic dancers gyrate in front of a sleek, black water wall. On the circular dance floor, the Kryogen system blows arctic blasts of air on sweaty club-goers heating up the dance floor.

    The Draw
    Although it's primarily a gay club, there's a strong straight presence on Saturday nights. DJ Jimmy Skinner controls the dance floor with a hypnotic mix of Euro and progressive house.
