Great Food and Service 9/1/2010

This place was great. The only qualm I have is that it is not open later!!! I read a bunch of the reviews below, and so I had to post one here...let me just say that one displeased customer is always 10x louder than 20 very pleased customers. I know for a fact that Gary is an awesome server. I see drunk tourists, college students, and other out of towners come in this place all the time and act like they own the joint....and then they write nasty reviews here when they don't get their way. What a shame!! more

Amazing 8/31/2010

Very unique and creative menu names and descriptions. Love the service with attitude, especially when my needs are met without asking. My favorite servers are the girl with the weird accent, the guy with the spiky hair and the guy with the crazy mustache. more

Skeezy Diner Service 6/25/2010

We went to slim goodies to get some food after a night out. When we received our check, we all chipped in, including the gratuity that was already added. 2 of my friends dropped down their cards, at which point our rude waiter comes over (bearded guy), picks up the cards and the cash underneath, holds them for a moment, then drops the cards and money back on the table and says they don't take cards. That was our fault, they have this stated in multiple places. However, why pick up the cards and the cash, just to put it down and tell us that? Why? Because now the cash pile was suddenly short $15. We paid the ticket, minus the tip, and left, calling the management half an hour later to talk to them about the bill and what had transpired. The manager then accused us of harassing other customers and shorting them $30 (another 15 that I am sure the waiter pocketed). We never talked to any other customers, there were barely any there, and we had only taken the tip out, which we pointed out, to no avail. She sided with the waiter, and told us that we would be charged the $30. My one question at the end of this is how? They don't take credit. Be careful at this place, and be sure to count your money carefully, because he will take advantage. Unfortunately, this is not the first money dispute with this waiter. Earlier this year he insisted that he could not make change for my friend out of his money belt, the register, or ask a co worker citing that ""they all hate me"". We eventually had to ask another worker to help us make change so we did not have to leave a $20 tip on a $35 bill. Pros: Okay Food. Its what you expect from a diner. Cons: Dishonest Waiters and Managers more

There are 2 kinds of bad service 3/15/2010

There are 2 kinds of bad service, 1) the kind where the waiter isn't overly ingratiating or friendly, and potentially is mildly rude, and 2) the kind where the waiter is slow or screws up your food. \r \r This is what happens when I go to Slim Goodie's: I want 3 cups of coffee in the first 20 min, preferably in half cup increments, and I take a lot of cream. Done. I sometimes order off the menu: no problem. I order my eggs over hard and am really grossed out if they're squishy: never screwed it up once. The food comes out quickly, is hot and delicious every time and the silverware is clean.\r \r First thing in the morning (or when I wake up) I don't want a chatty server. I can't face a chatty server. I sometimes can't face complicated shoes, or a stuck toothpaste cap, or the menu on my phone that will turn off the recurring alarm. That's why I go to a DINER, folks.\r \r Pros: delicious, relaxed Cons: there are like 5 menus more

severely disappointed 6/21/2009

For being what I thought was a chill diner like atmosphere I was highly disappointed by the arrogant attitude of the servers. The food was decent but in New Orleans you can find food that is equally as good and with better service. Pros: food is decent Cons: service is pompous more

Slim Goodies 6/21/2009

slim goodies has an awesome atmosphere and great food however i have to agree with pissedofatslimgoodies about the employees. they are abrasive and condesending and personally i think it makes the trip not worth it. one review says yeah its not the best service but its new orleans, but i can name dozens of places that although their service may be slow at least they are friendly people who make your experience much more enjoyable. i felt rushed and uncomfortable at slim goodies and i'd much rather go some place else where i can not only eat food but enjoy the atmosphere and the people. Pros: food Cons: employees more

Not Worth It 6/21/2009

Although the food and setting are entertaining the entire staff reeks of an obnoxious snobbish attuide. The majority of them finds themselves privelged to work for the restaurant, and when anyone not as ""unique"" as them walks in they may need to be prepared for less than par service. My friend tried to order a meal without chili and was told it was ""the point of the meal"" - he ate it and still found it satisfactory. Our bill was torn - not important - but after the service seemed obnoxious. The waiter was condescending as was the cook. Other visitors were cool - but the staff seems too well aware of their popularity within the city. Do not recomend going there. Try the Blue Plate Cafe, Cameilia Grill, Riconabba's Panola Cafe, Freret Street Cafe, or Trolley Stop Cafe' for equally good food with better service. Pros: Good Food Cons: Obnoxious Employees more

Peace, Love and the ""Contractors Special"" 11/29/2008

We love everything about Slims, the food, people watching, conversation.. the whole Ga-mutzzzzz and would not think about visiting New Orleans with out a stop. They were open before ,during and after Katrina and we can not think of a better place that represents the spirit and diversity of New Orleans. See you for Jazz Fest 2009. Pros: Great food, people and conversation. Cons: Parking more

All Around Best Ever! 8/17/2008

I love everything about this place, and make it a point to go in every time I'm in New Orleans for breakfast. more

I liked it! 8/15/2005

Sure the service is not great but this is New Orleans, it is what it is. (they were pretty busy) The ambiance is funky, the patrons are funky, the staff is funky, but sit back relax and what happens.... happens. My food was pretty good (I've been back twice and recomended it to others) Overall it's just a good place to hang-out, I don't understand the previous review, maybe they were looking for Brennans. more
