Good food, but overpriced if you don't have a coupon. 5/11/2008

We went here for Mother's Day; we knew it was pricey but we had a coupon. There were five of us, so we ordered several different dishes. The food was very tasty; spicy when it was supposed to be and mild when we asked for it mild. However, the portions were very small and we left there hungry. In addition, there was no music playing and instead a big TV hanging on the wall played annoyingly in the background. There were very few occupied tables, and no one was watching the TV; however we were told it could not be turned off. Pros: Food is tasty Cons: Portions are too small, and overpriced. more

Great Indian Food but a little pricey 5/2/2007

Located next to the Harris Teeter on the SE corner of Falls of Neuse and Spring Forest intersection, Bombay House (formerly Sitar) serves great Indian Food. The atmosphere is your typical suburban strip mall restaurant but the quiet setting allows for good conversation. I had the Chicken Mater, Vegetable Samosa, and Nan and it cost $22 with tip. A little pricey but worth it. Pros: Food Quality, Options Cons: Price more

One to avoid 4/13/2007

I'm not sure how this restaurant got a 9.0 rating unless the rating is very old. I went here for lunch. They serve the typcial Indian lunch buffet, chicken tikka masala and various vegetable dishes with some rice and naan. Of couse nothing on the buffet was spicy, because being a buffet they have to cater to the masses and probably choose safe ""mild"" dishes. I would have been OK with that if the food was at least good. This was a poor excuse for Tikka Masala. It did not have the rich and creamy flavor or texture that I love about that dish. Even the naan was bland. While it might be a cheap all you can eat lunch buffet, I would not recommend it. more

Not a good dining experience or food 1/20/2007

So after being very excited for a night of Indian food, I was highly disappointed, to put it mildly. Sitar was the highest rated Indian restaurant in the Raleigh area and I have absolutely no idea why. We saw the place was half full and doing pretty good business for an early Saturday night so we both thought it would be pretty good-- WRONG!!! We sat and waited and waited, finally we were asked what we wanted. We started with a mango lassi, best thing of meal, soda, second best thing, and water, which was refilled a total of 2 times in over an hour of eating. We ordered the assorted appetizer to start, which was way over fried, and the samosa just did not taste right at all. The mulligatawny soup I was excited about but it lacked much flavor and also had no chicken at all in it . We also ordered garlic nan, that was nan, with garlic placed on top and reheated obviously. Also I ordered a very, very hot vindaloo, hoping it would come out ready to create a fire in my mouth, but boy was I disappointed. I was simply told the next time to order it with green chilis-- like there would be a next time. The vindaloo most resembled the tiki masala from the buffet with hot sauce added, as in Texas Pete, or so it smelled, curry should not smell like hot sauce. My girlfriend asked for a mild chicken bhuna, and mild means lacking in taste I guess. Honestly I was very excited to find a good Indian place in Raleigh, and I was more than disappointed in this meal. I travel for a living and eat in small towns and very large cities weekly, please if you like real Indian do not waste your money here. Pros: parking Cons: food, service, curry more

Excellent Indian in N. Raleigh 8/9/2006

My favorite curry joint! Service is excellent. Food is consistently good. Excellent place to grab lunch with colleagues. Try the mango lassi. Pros: Great N. Raleigh location, buffet, business lunches more

Disappointing Place for Indian food 3/25/2006

Looking at the quality of food served, this restaurant has forced me write a review. I would certainly not recommend this to anyone whose looking for tasting authentic Indian food. Masked Indian food with no authentic taste. more

Food is fantastic! 11/29/2005

This is one of the very few restaurants that I go back to on a regular basis. The lunch and weekend dinner buffets are an excellent way to get introduced to Indian food. However, for something really special, try their regular dinner menu some evening. Restaurant is small and quiet, not exactly romantic but with the subdued lighting and white table cloths it should be close enough if you want that type of an effect. Service is courteous, watchful, and very, very polite. One caution: Indian food is spicy and even their milder dishes have a slight bite. The solution is to eat bread or rice (not water), so have those on hand for the kiddies. Prices are very reasonable for the type and quality of the food, slightly above what you would pay for standard microwaved chain-restaurant fare. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Strip Mall Exterior more

I am in Heaven 6/3/2005

That's the feeling I have dinning at Sitar. Of all the Indian restuarants that I have visited in California, Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, Triangle and other cities, this is the jewel. Incredible taste - Everytime - Everybite - and it is the same quality everytime and I have been 100s of times. The owners and people who serve you are friendly and professional. It has the right balance of class and comfort. The prices are reasonable considering the quality. I really think all and all - it is up to now my favorite restuarant of any kind - anywhere. * Here is a tip you will not regret using: ask for Gulab Jamons HOT! This is not the usual anywhere - they always served room temp - but when served HOT at Sitar, if they will do that for ya - you'll cry I promise. Ed Pros: Service, Healthy Food, Incredible Taste Cons: Fattening - darn more

Great Indian Food 8/6/2003

Not in the everyday price range, but not too bad. Flavor was excellent---do a good job at getting flavor of sauce into the meat rather than just on the meat (or main ingredient). Pros: really good flavor Cons: maybe a little pricey more

The BEST! 12/31/2002

When I want Indian food I go to Sitar--the 1/2 hour drive is definitely worth it! The buffet is a great value and what I like best is that the food is flavorful but not painfully spicy. I would recommend the buffet to folks who are not used to the hot spiciness of Indian food. And if you like it hot the staff will be happy to kick it up for you. Pros: Great food, Good variety, Not too spicy more
