So after being very excited for a night of Indian food, I was highly disappointed, to put it mildly. Sitar was the highest rated Indian restaurant in the Raleigh area and I have absolutely no idea why. We saw the place was half full and doing pretty good business for an early Saturday night so we both thought it would be pretty good-- WRONG!!! We sat and waited and waited, finally we were asked what we wanted. We started with a mango lassi, best thing of meal, soda, second best thing, and water, which was refilled a total of 2 times in over an hour of eating. We ordered the assorted appetizer to start, which was way over fried, and the samosa just did not taste right at all. The mulligatawny soup I was excited about but it lacked much flavor and also had no chicken at all in it . We also ordered garlic nan, that was nan, with garlic placed on top and reheated obviously. Also I ordered a very, very hot vindaloo, hoping it would come out ready to create a fire in my mouth, but boy was I disappointed. I was simply told the next time to order it with green chilis-- like there would be a next time. The vindaloo most resembled the tiki masala from the buffet with hot sauce added, as in Texas Pete, or so it smelled, curry should not smell like hot sauce. My girlfriend asked for a mild chicken bhuna, and mild means lacking in taste I guess. Honestly I was very excited to find a good Indian place in Raleigh, and I was more than disappointed in this meal. I travel for a living and eat in small towns and very large cities weekly, please if you like real Indian do not waste your money here.
